Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding - July/August 2020 (Issue 81)

THE ROOT OF IT ALL What to do with your crowning glory can be a dilemma, especially if you’re not used to having it styled. Lorna Vallender of Hampshire-based LV Hair Beauty and Bridal (www.facebook.com/ LVHairBeautyBridal) ha s bags of experience to help you choose. She says, “Take your dress into consideration. If it has lots of beautiful back detail you don’t want to hide it, so an up do might be best. Alternatively, if your dress has a low V-back you can follow the line with a lovely half-up/half-down style. Hiding the things we don’t like about ourselves and accentuating the things we do, is also key to looking and feeling your best. “ Look for inspiration from photos of brides with hair of similar colour and thickness to your own where possible. For example, some styles show much more definition with blonde hair than brunette. Photos help us to ensure we’re both on the same page but are just a guide. I like to add a bit of extra detail or something different to personalise the style to suit you.” LORNA’S TOP TIPS ❤ It ‘ s good to have a little trim before your wedding to avoid any unsightly split ends but this is not the time for anything drastic. ❤ After your trial, keep the style in for a while if you can, just to see how it feels. www.leah mariephotography.co.uk THE FINISHING TOUCH Jewellery adds the perfect finishing touch to your big-day look and can be a lasting keepsake too. Whether it’s statement earrings, a delicate necklace, sparkly hairpiece or sentimental piece, there’s something to suit a whole range of different bridal styles. For your something blue , bespoke jewellery designer Liz Tyler (www.liztyler.com) sa ys, “Sapphires, aquamarines and topaz come in so many pretty shades of blue and can be set in platinum, different coloured golds or silver to complement your dress, engagement and wedding rings. “It’s good to invest in a personal piece that will last a lifetime and become an heirloom for your future family to treasure,” she adds. YOUR HAIR AND BEAUTY DILEMMAS SORTED! HAYLEY NORRIS OF DEVEREUX HAIR & BEAUTY www.facebook.com/Devereux-hair-and-beauty-Ltd-100450731395066 When should I have my hair coloured for my big day? I’d recommend having it done 10 to seven days before so it stills look as fresh as possible, but will allow the colour and any staining to settle down. Remember to book your appointment well in advance to make sure the shade is exactly how you want it. Should I wash my hair on the wedding morning? I always ask my brides to wash their hair the day before, as it helps the style to last longer. Use shampoo and conditioner, but no styling products and then leave it to dry naturally. Will I need a pre-wedding trial ? It’s an absolute must as it’s not always possible to achieve the look you want on the day working with a picture from a magazine or the internet. Also brides sometimes change their mind, which is never a problem, and a trial allows us more time to discover exactly what works best. Should I bring my veil and/or hair accessories with me? It’s always a good idea to bring whatever you have with you, even if it’s something you’re not 100 per cent sure on. Sometimes things look totally different on and it’s helpful for us to know exactly where you want your veil placed as this a key part to any bridal look I’ve had to postpone my spring wedding until next year and don’t know what hairstyles will be in fashion then. I was planning to wear my hair half-up, half-down with a flower crown. Classic styles like this never go out of fashion and I’m sure we’ll still be seeing plenty of fresh flowers in brides' hair. But do keep an open mind, let your stylist play around a little at your trial. Try the style you had in mind and something different too, you might be surprised! We’ve rescheduled our June wedding for a cosy indoor winter one instead. What kind of colour palette would work well for my bridal make-up? Warm hues of gold and soft burgundy work really well for this time of year. A soft smoky eye with just a little added sparkle will look gorgeous. Match the foundation colour to your skin tone, no need for an over sun-kissed complexion in winter! Add a pinky plum blush to enhance your cheeks and a mid-shade of plum on the lips with a slick of gloss for a perfect finish.
