Hampshire-based bridalwear designer and maker Holly Winter shows how with her original creations inspired by the Hollywood heyday of Marlene Dietrich. Famed for her androgynous style, the iconic star was constantly reinventing herself throughout her long career and for pushing the boundaries of conventional fashion. “This year sees the 90 th anniversary of one of her most famous films Morocco in which she scandalously wore a top hat, bow tie and tux,” explains Holly. “For me, she embodied an irreverent femininity in the film that refused to conform to expectations of what a woman should look like and how she should behave. She ventured beyond gender decades before its broad public discussion and I adore her for challenging the stereotypes that many brides continue to rally against.” Combining the star’s flair for traditional masculine tailoring with a feminine, bridal edge, Holly included bow-tie-inspired motifs, trousers with detachable skirt overlays, a train with oversize bows, jumpsuits and a coat. New Hampshire wedding venue, The Boat Shed in Porchester provided the ideal backdrop for the alternative- style shoot. 79 FASHION EXTRA 
