Your Hampshire & Dorset Wedding - Sep/Oct 2019 (Issue 76)

100 GET THE LOOK We’re having an autumn-themed wedding and I want to reflect the season in my bridal make-up too. I’ve no idea where to start though, what would you suggest? Mel says: One of the most important things to help you feel relaxed and confident about your bridal make-up is to make sure you book a trial well in advance. I usually do this about two months before the big day. When I met bride Charli for her trial we chatted about what make-up she usually wears and how she wanted to look for her October wedding. To recreate her radiant autumn glow, here’s my step-by-step guide: ❤ Apply a primer first to help keep your foundation in place. ❤ I used MAC Waterweight Foundation as it’s lightweight but has great coverage which is perfect for an autumn wedding. ❤ Set with a light dusting of finishing powder. ❤ To make her amazing eyes the focal point we opted for a champagne eyeshadow, to complement her wedding flowers, and bronze tones from the Smashbox Double Exposure Eyeshadow Palette which has the perfect mix of matte and sparkly pigments for an autumnal smoky effect. ❤ Apply the light sparkly tone on the lid and add definition with a bronze shade to smoke it out on the outer. ❤ Add definition with a fine slick of black mineral Mii Luxurious Liquid Liner along the lash line. ❤ Charli had lash extensions done before the big day so they’d last for the honeymoon; a great idea if you’re going away straight after the wedding. ❤ Brush through eyebrows with some clear gel to keep them in place; I love the Anastasia Beverley Hills one. ❤ For some light shaping to the face, I used the Anastasia Powder Contour Kit and a touch of Charlotte Tilbury blusher on the apples of the cheeks to add warmth. ❤ Complete the look with MAC Velvet Teddy Matte Lipstick; the warm tones are perfect for autumn. ❤ To create a controlled, voluminous style for Charli’s naturally curly hair I used ghd straighteners to pin curl it. Autumn weather is unpredictable so you need to be prepared and make sure you chat to your stylist about your hair type, how it reacts in different conditions and discuss what will work for you, your locks and your big day! How can I perk up my dull, dry skin and add a touch of drama to my bridal look for my November wedding? Olivia says: Clean, pared down make-up is a surefire way to achieve effortless beauty through subtle enhancements and without interfering too much. A healthy glow is all about moisture and to achieve a dewy effect, you really need to focus on the preparation. I love coconut oil as a face mask at night and a hydrating moisturiser such as Dynamic Defence Moisturiser by Sarah Chapman will give you the extra hydration that your skin needs after the summer. When applying your moisturiser, press rather than rub it in, working from the centre to the outer edges of the face for a radiant and glowing complexion, providing the perfect canvas for your base. To complement the season, rich berry shades are great for luscious lips and work well with all skin tones. What’s more they have a cool undertone which helps make your teeth look pearly white. Gorgeous, rich burgundy shades can look dark and gothic, or for a softer look, apply to the centre of your lips and smudge outwards, using your fingertips to create a more subtle just-kissed effect. This autumn it’s all about sparkle and glitter which looks flattering and regal applied around the eyes, on the centre of the eyelid or the inner corner for added drama. There’s no reason why you can’t add a touch of sparkle to your lips either. Gloss Bomb Diamond Milk by Fenty is a beautiful shimmering pearl lip gloss that looks beautiful over every colour, giving added moisture and a whole new dimension to your lips.
