Fletcher’s Lea Undergoes a Facelift Ware Priory’s largest and most contemporary function space, Fletcher’s Lea, has undergone an impressive transformation, unveiling a fresh and inviting atmosphere for all who visit. The extensive refurbishment project, completed at the end of February, has revitalized several key areas within the property, enhancing both style and functionality. The bar area has been tastefully redecorated, creating a welcoming space for guests to relax and socialize. In the main room, softer furnishings have been introduced, offering increased comfort and a touch of elegance to the setting. Additionally, the renovation included the installation of brand-new, modern toilets, ensuring the highest standards of convenience and comfort for all visitors. One of the standout features of this refurbishment is the newly added patio area at the rear of the property, which provides a picturesque view overlooking the tranquil River Lea. This outdoor space offers guests a serene backdrop for enjoying drinks, mingling, or simply taking in the beautiful surroundings. The ever-popular Fletcher’s Lea Suite now boasts even greater versatility, making it an ideal choice for hosting a wide array of events. A TALE OF TRUE LOVE Vilma and Tom had a gorgeous wedding at South Farm Images courtesy of Sian Richardson Photo and Film When it comes to English countryside elegance, Vilma and Tom planned the perfect wedding straight out of a storybook. Think Jane Austen vibes with romantic styling, a pastel colour scheme and stunning florals. After falling in love with St Joseph’s Catholic Church and South Farm, the pair brought their vision to life with help from the experts. Here, the bride shares details about their special day… REAL WEDDINGS 21
For the ceremony, I walked to a piano version of our would-be first dance, From This Moment On by Shania Twain. We both grew up listening to this song and to Shania Twain in general. There’s actual video footage of Tom as a toddler dancing to the song (he is also the biggest Shania fan), and I can recall early childhood memories of watching a Shania concert on DVD with my family. This song is written for the singer’s parents as a tribute, and we both wanted to honour our parents, who are not with us anymore. We had a church service in Stevenage, our local parish, which is roughly 30 minutes from South Farm. I’ve always been an avid Jane Austen reader ever since, well... forever! We tried to make this apparent in our wedding details. Our guests were telling us about the Bridgerton vibes they felt during the entire day, which made us equally as pleased, as Bridgerton is based off Austen. 22 After the vows, we had our drinks reception in the magical gardens at South Farm, which was such a lovely way to catch up with loved ones and really enjoy that just-married feeling. Our colour scheme was pastel shades, with wisteria being a dominant shade. We also tried to include old-y world details like feather quills for the guestbook signing and personalised wax seals for our stationery.
Overall, we were going for an understated, magical, quaint, and charming vibe for our wedding. Thanks to our suppliers, especially South Farm, we were able to achieve just that. We moved to the Tudor Barn for the wedding breakfast and speeches. We had tea, coffee, and brownies in The Old Dairy, and back again to the Tudor Barn for our cake cutting and dancing the night away! When the ceremony had just finished and we were preparing to do the confetti, we saw our little pug for the first time in his suit (he is our pug-ofhonour and would be walking with us for the shot), and we both just sighed and felt immeasurable love for this little boy, as always. REAL WEDDINGS 23
We love the gardens near the Summer House for our couple portraits! It’s very quaint and charming. The setting provided the perfect English garden where we could relax and spend some magical time together amidst the partying. I was nervous at first, but we both agreed beforehand that no matter what happened, we would enjoy our special day and soak everything in. The day flew by so quickly, but we enjoyed every second of it. Our special day was indeed the happiest day in our lives so far! 24 I wore a Katiya gown by Madi Lane Bridal from the amazing Dolly’s Bridal Boutique, with alterations from the wonderful Aggie Seamstress. The veil was by Richard Designs Bridal, also purchased from the boutique, while shoes were from Paradox and accessories from Etsy. Tom wore a suit and bow tie from Chimney Formal Menswear and shoes from Moss.

Everywhere at South Farm is just a perfect backdrop for photos. But there are just a few corners which are absolutely magical. We love the iconic front of house, where we had most of our couple and group photos. The roses in June are just incredible, giving the most idyllic vibes. The speeches were heartfelt and genuine! You don’t have to have the fanciest wording or speech flow, just say what you really mean to say, plus a few light-hearted jokes on the side never fail to make the couple and the guests reel with laughter! For the overall styling, the Tudor Barn is so stunning that we felt it didn’t need a lot of decorating. We incorporated English summer florals, pastel-toned stationery, and fairylights to elevate that old-world feel. 27 REAL WEDDINGS We went to Jersey for our honeymoon! It was an amazing trip where we just relaxed after the high-energy-filled weeks leading up to the wedding.

Beautifully blue Mark and Michelle had a beautiful wedding with a calming colour scheme Images courtesy of Tim Payne Photography After getting engaged, Mark and Michelle worked as a team to create a simple but elegant wedding at The Tithe Barn in Bedford. The pair fell in love on the first visit, thanks to the stunning spaces and the friendly team. The manager took time out of his day to show them around and made them feel so welcome. Plus, the package was great value! Here, the bride shares details about their special day… REAL WEDDINGS 29
A few suppliers stood out! Jo from Stardust Events with venue styling, the Tithe Barn staff who couldn’t do enough for us and our wonderful photographer who relaxed us from the moment we met! Both photographers made the day so relaxing with the photos; there was no stress, and it all felt so natural. We both felt so happy throughout the day. Having everyone together in one place was so special. Some friends travelled from Australia and New Zealand to be with us. The groom wore a navy suit with a champagne-coloured tie to differentiate from the rest of the wedding party. 30
The ushers, the best man and the stepfather-of-the-bride had matching navy suits with blue ties to match the bridesmaids dresses. A harpist performed during the ceremony, drinks reception, and wedding breakfast before we had a disco in the evening. The DJ played the right music to get everyone dancing. I wore an A-line satin wedding dress with lace details, a veil and a beautiful hair accessory. I cried when I finished getting ready as I felt the best version of myself! Each table was named after our children! The centrepieces consisted of my favourite flower, blue gerberas, in glass bowls with crystals. 31 REAL WEDDINGS

Rustic romance Taylor and Ellie’s barnstyle wedding featured sage green touches Images courtesy of Photos by Charles Taylor was working in Cyprus when she met Ellie, who was on holiday and had just lost her shoe. Afterwards, they got chatting and instantly made a connection. Taylor comments, “When we left the bar, I realised we hadn’t exchanged contact details, so I trawled through Facebook trying to find Ellie among around 75,000 people. Eventually, I found her, added her, sent her a message, and we stayed up until 4 am messaging. We met one final time before she went home, and I knew she was the one. “Once she got home, we played a game called ‘Odds On’ that ended up with her agreeing to come back out to Cyprus to visit and stay with me – and it worked! Two weeks later, she came back and we spent seven days together – we’ve literally been inseparable ever since!” Ellie proposed at Disney World, Florida, in front of the castle, as this had always been Taylor’s dream. And just like that, their new chapter began. Here, Taylor shares details about their special day… 35 REAL WEDDINGS
We absolutely loved The Barn at Alswick! We’s always wanted a barn venue that matched our vibe and theme. Everything about the venue was absolutely perfect. The grounds were amazing for photos, the staff were so accommodating, and we just knew this was our venue. Both of our dresses were from Wed2B Chelmsford, designed by Aaliyah Quinn. I knew it was the one when I walked out, and my entourage all had tears in their eyes! The shop assistant popped a tiara and veil on me, and that was it – I was crying too! 36
We also had stilt-walkers and disco ball head dancers throughout the evening provided by my company, Taylor Made Entertainment! The food from B&R Dining was incredible! We had canapés, including our highlight – the arancini balls. For mains, guests chose between sausage with dauphinoise potatoes or chicken breast with a white wine sauce. Most people went for the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, which was delicious! Our chosen theme was rustic and natural, with a sage green colour palette. We chose to do most of the venue styling ourselves and also created our own bouquets. We had an amazing singer, Amber Louise, during our dinner service, and an excellent DJ called DJ Cream who kept the party going all night. 37 REAL WEDDINGS
The highlight of our wedding was absolutely the first dance! We hadn’t rehearsed at all and were just dancing to our song, I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith. It honestly felt like we were the only people in the room! TAYLOR AND ELLIE’S LITTLE WHITE BOOK Photographer, photosbycharles.co.uk | Second shooter, blackshieldsnaps.com | Venue, alswick.co.uk | Brides’ dresses, Wed2B | Wedding rings, ernestjones.co.uk | Hairstylist, instagram.com/helliershair | Make-up artist, bride-edit.co.uk | Cake, instagram.com/thecamocorner Flowers M&S | Entertainment, taylormadeents.com | Catering, instagram.com/brandonrodrigues96 | Content creator, instagram.com/yourcontentcaptured The bridesmaids wore sage green dresses, all in different shapes to suit each girl individually. The venue is already so beautiful, with its fully lit fairylight ceiling, that we really didn’t need much décor at all. We chose to have rustic bottles along the centre of our Game of Thrones-style table, with flowers in each bottle. BRIDE’S TOP TIP! Stay relaxed and remember, it doesn’t matter if something is slightly out of place or if a bridesmaid doesn’t like the shoes and wants to wear different ones. The day is about celebrating your love for one another. That’s always the most important thing! 38

She was trained at the Ash Kumar academy and had the honour of being an Ash Kumar artist for 8 years. Every design is bespoke to the bride. Indi always has a consultation with the bride in advance in which she discusses the brides likes and dislikes. She then sketches the design that is shown to the bride beforehand so that she gets an idea of how the design will be. Often the bride keeps the sketch as a little keepsake. RED ALERT! THE PREWEDDING PANIC FIX KIT Your plan when everything feels like it’s falling apart – spoiler, it’s not PLANNING SOS 41 You’ve become a research pro. You’ve been organised from the get-go, colour-coded your spreadsheet, and triple-checked the timeline. But no matter how prepared you are, problems can still arise. Perhaps there are a few dropouts, or the heavens open – some aspects are simply beyond your control. So instead of going into a state of panic or worry, we’ve created the ultimate emergency manual to give you some peace of mind. Most of these issues are very unlikely, but we’ve got your back just in case. You’ve got this. We’ve got you. Let’s troubleshoot. CRISIS #1 – CANCELLATIONS It’s safe to say no one likes last-minute cancellations! The dreaded “So sorry to do this…” can easily send us into a spiral, but it’s essential to stay calm. Your feelings are completely valid, but it’s important to take action as soon as possible. First, contact your venue to explain the situation and ask if they have any trusted suppliers who can step in to save the day. Since staff typically have great relationships with their vendors, it’s a solid place to start. If that doesn’t work, social media is your best friend! Create a post about your situation, include your wedding date and location, and share it in a local wedding group. Many companies will see your message quickly and share it across platforms. This cuts the waiting time as only available suppliers will respond. Just make sure to check each company’s website, social pages, and reviews. If you’re early in your planning journey, always ask if a replacement clause can be added to contracts. If a vendor cancels, they should help find a comparable replacement. CRISIS #2 – SKIN BREAKOUTS It’s no secret that every nearlywed wants to look their big-day best, so it’s frustrating when a stubborn breakout appears last minute. Take a deep breath and don’t panic! The worst thing you can do is pick at it; this can cause scabbing, inflammation, or more redness. Depending on the type of spot, there are two things you can do. If it’s a whitehead, apply a compress with warm, salty water to help draw the impurity out. If it’s a deep, under-the-surface lump, apply ice to reduce swelling. You can also use spot treatments like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, just make sure your skin is already familiar with the product to avoid further irritation. If you have a go-to facialist, give them a call for advice or a last-minute appointment. If not, reach out to your make-up artist. They’ll have a few tricks up their sleeve; they’re masters of disguise and can conceal breakouts with ease. Leading up to the wedding, eat well and stay hydrated. Avoid excess sugar, processed foods, and known triggers. A healthy gut supports clear skin and reduces inflammation. EMERGENCY SURVIVAL KIT Keep these in a designated bag or hand them over to a trusted bridesmaid! •Fashion tape •Sewing kit •Lint roller •Blotting paper •Granola bars •Portable fan •Mini deodorant •Safety pins •Phone charger •Travel toothbrush and mints •Painkillers •Tissues •Bobby pins •Lipstick unsplash.com@sandym10 unsplash.com@olivie_strauss unsplash.com@mutecevvil unsplash.com@jonathanborba
CRISIS #3 – RAINY DAY Living in England, we’re used to drizzly days. While we all hope for sunshine on our special day, rain is always a possibility, no matter the month. You’ll probably check every weather app, but even if rain is forecasted, it’s not the end of the world. Start by ensuring you have a wet-weather backup plan, especially for outdoor events. If your ceremony or reception is outside, hire a marquee or tipi to provide shelter if the skies open. Order a few clear umbrellas, they’re not only practical but look adorable in photos. Imagine romantic, rainy shots as you walk hand-in-hand around the venue. If bad weather is expected, advise guests to wear appropriate footwear and keep towels on hand just in case. Overcast skies provide the perfect lighting for portraits, so ask your photographer for a rain-day shot list and embrace the day. Many cultures view rain as a sign of good luck and fertility. When embraced, it can make your day even more memorable. CRISIS #4 – HEATWAVES Clear skies and sunshine can be a blessing, but extreme heat brings its own challenges – melting make-up, overheated guests and wilting flowers. If high temperatures are predicted, ensure there’s plenty of shade available. Avoid direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day and consider hiring a marquee or scattering parasols for comfort. Provide fans and sunscreen as thoughtful (and useful) favours. Keep guests hydrated, especially if alcohol is involved, as it causes dehydration more quickly. Your make-up artist will have the perfect kit for warm weather, including a good primer, waterproof eye products, and setting spray. They’ll likely layer cream and powder products for long-lasting coverage and recommend powder touch-ups throughout the day. If you’re marrying during peak summer, ask your florist for heat-resistant blooms, and keep them cool until showtime. After photos, place bouquets in vases with water to preserve them. CRISIS #5 – DROPOUTS One way to avoid last-minute dropouts is to set a clear RSVP deadline on your invitations. If you haven’t heard by the deadline, follow up. However, life happens. Some no-shows will be completely understandable... and some, less so. First, don’t panic. It’s 100% frustrating when excuses feel flimsy, and it’s okay to feel disappointed – own that feeling. Then move into problem-solving mode. If there’s still time, contact your venue’s coordinator to see if any changes are needed to the table plan. Remove any place settings to avoid gaps and let your caterer know about the new numbers. Even if they can’t adjust the price, it avoids unnecessary waste. Have a backup list? Maybe there’s someone you originally cut due to numbers or cost, or someone listed as evening-only. Now’s your chance to invite them to the full day if you’d like! unsplash.com@victoriapriessnitz unsplash.com@lucasmendesph unsplash.com@kristycruzm_ unsplash.com@gettyimages 42
