Your Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Wedding- February / March 2021 (Issue 25)

BOHO BRIDE We’re getting married this summer in an intimate outdoor ceremony and I would love some ideas for my bridal dress? Meet the expert: Donna McCahill is the owner of Gloucestershire-based bridal boutique Posy & Pearl stocking designer bridal gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, occasion wear and flowergirl designs, plus a collection of bespoke bridal headpieces and jewellery that are handmade on-site. Donna says: For an intimate outdoor wedding, something informal would work perfectly like a boho-style dress with simple spaghetti straps or a soft, floaty A-line gown with a short train. Consider a design with a pastel undertone, for example, rose or blush, topped with a soft layering of delicate ivory lace. With the uncertainty of the great British weather, you could opt for an overlay that can be removed like a lace bolero that’s still delicate and informal but adds an extra layer for warmth. It will only need to feed 15 guests so what do you suggest? Meet the expert: Anna Baker is a creative cake designer offering bespoke baking in the Cotswolds. From afternoon tea to showstopping wedding cakes, each treat is created using the finest ingredients. Anna says: For a micro wedding this summer, I would suggest ordering a delicious semi-naked or sponge cake fully covered with buttercream. There are so many delicious flavours to choose from and the beauty of hosting a micro wedding is that a seven-inch cake will be plenty for 15 guests with some to spare. Alternatively, you could have a two-tier cake with one five-inch and one seven- inch layer. The seven-inch tier could be eaten at the wedding and the smaller one could be frozen to enjoy at a later date with family and friends. Summer berries are in abundance during this season and look fabulous decorating a cake. Fresh flowers also look beautiful and can be coordinated with the bouquets and table decorations. You can either keep it simple or mix the two - the combination of flowers and berries looks sensational. Even though your cake will be smaller than usual, it should still be the centrepiece at your reception. Using a decorative cake stand or a log slice to present it on will provide the finishing touch and height can be added by the addition of a striking topper available in all shapes and sizes. Ribbons and bows and all manner of decorations are also available and I offer a personalised service in which all of these details are discussed ahead of the day to ensure that you have your dream cake.
