Nadezhda Hardiman is an award-winning make-up artist, hair stylist and skincare specialist based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Nadezhda says: Eyebrows must be maintained on the lead-up to your wedding. Not everyone needs them tinted but they should be shaped by a professional. If your brows are dark and have a good natural shape, you won’t need them tinted. They can be lightened but you’ll need to have a consultation with a specialist about this well ahead of the wedding date. Your make-up will only look perfect if your eyebrows are groomed and in good condition. I always advise my clients to tint them four to five days before the wedding. That way, they’ll look fresh yet natural because any tint staining your skin will be washed away. If you haven’t had this done before, sample it well before the wedding so that you know what look to expect. Your wedding morning is not a good time to shape and tint your eyebrows! Some people believe that putting concealer over the eyebrows will help hide unwanted hairs but this is a myth - if brows aren’t shaped nicely, it’ll spoil the look. LUSCIOUS LASHES How do I apply false lashes like a pro? Heather card is a professional make-up artist covering weddings in the South West. Heather says: If you want longer, thicker, fuller-looking lashes that look natural, here are some great tips for applying false ones: ❤ Strip lashes are made from individual hairs in synthetic or natural fibres. The strip comes in clear, white and black and the white ones are supposed to be invisible but if applied incorrectly, they can show. I normally opt for a black band because I find these easier to blend into the natural lash line and with mascara and eyeliner. ❤ You can opt for individual lashes where three to five individual hairs are attached with glue and used to add fullness and thickness, and flare the outer edge of the natural lash. ❤ Never pull strip lashes off the plastic backing. Always use a pair of tweezers to gently ease off an edge and then peel them to prevent them from stretching and distorting. ❤ The lashes can be stiff fresh from the packaging and might require a stretch before being applied for a comfortable fit. Hold the lash end with your index finger and thumb and shake it to help the fibres separate. ❤ Ensure that the lashes fit your natural lash line and shape of your eye to ensure a more natural result. If you have ever worn lashes which have irritated the inside corner of your eye then chances are they are too long for the shape of your eye or have been inappropriately applied. ❤ Your lashes should be placed on the inner corner of your eye a few in from your natural ones. The end of the false lash should end at your natural lash line to prevent them looking too heavy. Make sure that you cut the strip from the outside edge and never from the inner corner because those on the inside are shorter than the ones on the outside. Never cut the actual lashes because the individual fibres are tapered into a point like a natural lash so they would end up looking blunt. ❤ There are so many different varieties of glue available and I recommend Esqido Companion Glue (www.amazon.co.uk) that ensures a strong bond, is hypoallergenic and contains no latex. ❤ Before applying your lashes, add mascara to your natural ones to help them blend better. Apply more mascara when the lashes have bonded to help the natural ones blend with the false ones. ❤ Don’t curl your lashes before applying the strip ones. ❤ Look down into a mirror as you apply them which will help to stretch the eyelid and make for easier application. ❤ Apply glue to the underside and edge, and let it go tacky. Place the lash into the centre of the lash line and then press them into place from the inner and outer corners using the tweezers. ❤ Make sure that you apply the strip lash on top of the lash line and not from the side. This will ensure a smoother curve and look better suited to your eye shape. ❤ Look to the outer corner of the eye and using gel liner or a pencil, run this along the upper water line in the inner corner to the join of the strip lash which helps them blend. ❤ Remove your lashes with an oil-based make-up remover. ❤ Clean them with a brush cleaner and comb them through with a mascara wand.
