Your East Midlands Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 39)

FINDING THE ONE Q: I’d love a princess style-dress, but because of my height, I’m worried I’ll be swamped. What gown will suit my small frame? Princess wedding dresses come in a range of lengths and can be custom made or altered to suit any bride perfectly, depending on the designer. A princess dress can be an option for a short bride, as long as you get the sizing and detailing right. Alternatively, an A-line wedding dress, which isn’t as dramatic in size can be an absolute showstopper! With the right detail and accessories, you can create the fairytale look you’re aiming to achieve. Your height should never be an obstacle to finding your dream dress as long as you have the right bridal stylist to help! The modern mother-of-the-bride is tending to move away from a full ensemble by the same designer that matches her dress. It’s therefore much easier and wiser to shop around for headwear and other accessories. A hatinator-style is very popular and attaches to the head by a piece of elastic or a band which makes it more practical to wear all day as they’re light and don’t flatten hair like a full hat and are regularly seen on the heads of royals like Zara Tindall and Kate Middleton. They may also be more appropriate at a smaller, more intimate gathering, while still making the mother-of- the-bride feel special. Current millinery trends include veiling, headbands, beret shapes and Dior brims. A contemporary edge is given with the addition of simple lines, materials like leather and pretty florals. Colours such as dusty pinks, blues and neutrals are everywhere at the moment and are flattering for most. Beautiful mother-of-the-bride, Sheila, wore a blue percher style hatinator with a spectacular sculptural swirl to match her wrap dress from Stine Goya, as can be seen in this photo.
