Discover music and entertainment suppliers from around the region X TOP ADVICE FOR BOOKING GREAT ENTERTAINMENT BOOGIE NIGHTS “Your wedding music is essential to create the atmosphere on your special day – finding a great DJ that has the right skills is the first step. It takes many years to gain experience and knowledge of music, it’s about timing and reading the dancefloor – an experienced DJ will never turn up with all pre-set music. They should have the right personality, speak directly with you and it’s important to go and see them work before booking. To give you some idea, your DJ will be playing around 18 songs an hour and you need to think about your music priorities. It doesn’t have to be traditional music; you can split your evening into sections of music genres. Your DJ will need to have Public Liability Insurance and Portable Appliance Testing Certificates and your venue may request this, otherwise, they can be refused to work on your behalf. Your entertainer should carry back up equipment and spares in case of a malfunction.” David Ian Metcalf | KPD Sounds | kpdsounds.co.uk TIME TO CELEBRATE “My overall advice for booking entertainment is to try and get to know your supplier. A pre-event consultation is a must – whether it be in person or by video call. Meeting at the venue is ideal, ask to read reviews of their wedding performances and if possible, contact previous clients to verify they did a good job. You’re hiring someone who all your guests will see and it will set the tone for the day – choosing the right act is essential. Discuss exactly what you want from your entertainment and make sure they can accommodate this. If, after meeting or chatting with a potential supplier, you feel like they’re the one and you know it in your heart, go for it and get them booked in. If you’re not sure, give it some thought and continue to shop around if necessary. You’ll want the entertainment to arrive on the day with a firm understanding of the services they’re going to provide – leaving you completely worry-free and ready to enjoy your day!” Christopher Schofield | Christopher Schofield | christopherschofield.com A CLASS ACT “There are lots of different points in your special day where you can have live music – your service, drinks reception, wedding breakfast or evening reception. We feel live music adds so much to your day, breathing life into the lyrics that you hold dear as a couple. You may want background music to entertain your guests when you’re busy having your photos done, or you might need live music to add energy and atmosphere to your evening. Make sure the music you pick suits you as a couple, it’s your special day and you want it to reflect your personality. Perhaps pick an act that is mainly your style but will also cater to Aunt Mavis and Uncle Bob. At the end of the day, you know your family and friends the best.” Rebecca Cole | Rebecca Cole Singer | rebeccacolesinger.com skyphotography.co.uk MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT 81
