Your East Midlands Wedding - April/May 2020 (Issue 37)

We’re very lucky to have a beautiful church within our parish, which was perfect for us. It felt like a given to hold the ceremony there. With regards to our reception venue, we wanted a space that we could make our own as I’m a project manager, it was really important to me that I could get involved and do a lot of the work myself. We decided a few weeks before the wedding to have a sweet table for our guest to help themselves or take a bag home, which went down surprisingly well with both adults and children! Rob made a table plan from a pallet, he spent hours over the summer cutting, making, painting and handwriting all of the signs, not helped by a perfectionist fiancée giving feedback! We’re very outdoorsy people and love running, bike rides, camping and more – the setting at The Hidden Hive seemed perfect. One of the things we loved was the feeling of calmness as soon as you walk into the tipis and the fairylights just made it all so magical. We wanted to be able to choose the decorations, food and drinks that we love to truly make our wedding special and represent us as a couple. Black Peppermint Food Co helped us design a menu of the foods in a sharing platter, which was perfect to create a relaxed atmosphere where our guests could help themselves to the bits they liked. I love gin so it seemed perfect to use a combination of gin and milk bottles borrowed from my sister from her wedding – my Dad cut the wooden centrepieces for us to place the bottles on. 40
