83 EXPERT ADVICE Q&A Hair & Beauty Our experts help you to look your big-day best CONTACT THE EXPERT Adele Coxon, adelecoxonmakeupartist.co.uk Ali Gunn, makeupbyali.co.uk Katie Attwood, katieattwood.co.uk W-DAY HIGHLIGHTS I’m currently a brunette and fancy a colour change. What ideas do you have that won’t feel too drastic? Katie says: If you want something different for your big day I’d recommend opting for a caramel balayage so it’s not too much of a change. I’d frame the face with some caramel baby lights and then freehand some colour through the mid-lengths and ends to give it an overall sunkissed look.  The gorgeous thing about this colour is that you’ll see the detail of your chosen style. When the hair’s really dark it’s hard to see intricacy of your curls, plaits or twists, especially on a photograph. Katie Attwood Hair stylist PERFECT POUT I usually wear a nude lip colour but I want something brighter for my bridal look. What shades would you suggest? Ali says: There are so many different shades of nude that are super flattering. I find it’s a bit like sunglasses – you have to try them all on! Charlotte Tilbury and MAC do a wonderful selection. Also remember that everything looks softer on a photo. I always advise to go a touch deeper than your usual colour if you feel comfortable doing so. If you’re feeling bold opt for a coral pink – Fanfare by MAC is one of my favourites. Also a suntan can really alter your lip shade, so it’s essential to try lipsticks when you’re the skin colour you’ll be on the day. Use a self tan before your make-up trial if necessary. Ali Gunn Make-up artist BRIGHT EYES I want to wear an eyeshadow that’ll make my blue eyes pop. I always opt for a smoky look so what can I do that’s a little different? Adele says: To make blue eyes pop, pink tones work well for a subtle natural look defining the area to give that wide-awake look that many brides want. Alternatively if you love a smoky eye and want this on your day, use brown rather than black. Gold and orange hues make blue eyes stand out. However, this will make your eyes appear smaller so if you don’t want this, opt for shades of pink. Adele Coxon Make-up artist
