Welcome to our April/May issue! I love this time of year partly because I adore spring weddings but also because of the new wedding dress collections. This issue is one of my favourites to write and I always get excited seeing the stunning gowns that are available in our lovely region. I got married a few years ago, so I know how stressful finding the perfect dress can be. I had no idea what style I wanted, but my wonderful consultant helped me pick my dream A-line gown. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the amount of choice available, make sure you listen to your consultant. They have years of experience and have helped brides of every shape and size find their dream gown, so they will know what looks good on you even if you don’t yourself. Go to your appointment with a rough idea of what you like, but try to keep an open mind. On paper, it might not be what you want, but it still might be the one. If you’re not sure where to start, check out our fashion section for heaps of inspiration. Happy planning! NEWS Nearlywed All the latest from around the region FLORAL ROMANCE Ashlee Jane, a home décor influencer and entrepreneur, has won an award for her floral e-commerce business, The Suffolk Nest. When the COVID-19 lockdowns swept the UK, Ashlee was able to focus more of her time on faux-flower arranging. Increased content was met with greater engagement and interest, and her arrangement tutorials and advice sessions on Instagram brought audiences in their thousands. Her first product, the DIY Christmas Wreath Kit, sold out in minutes, so in January 2021, Ashlee took a leap of faith and officially founded the floral e-commerce business, The Suffolk Nest. Garnering numerous awards, such as ‘eCommerce Development Agency of the Year’ in both 2023 and 2024, ‘Home Décor Retailer of the Year’, ‘Faux Floristry Studio of the Year’ and ‘Creator/Influencer Businesswoman of the Year’, Ashlee’s entrepreneurial journey shows no sign of slowing. Find out more at www.thesuffolknest.com SAVE THE DATE Visit The Old Hall Ely, in the heart of Cambridgeshire, for a day of wedding inspiration! If you’ve recently gotten engaged or are one of the lucky few to have already booked your wedding at the venue, then this is an event you don’t want to miss out on. Join the team on Monday 6th May, from 11am-3:30pm, to explore the manor house and grounds, see the wedding venue in full swing, speak to some of Cambridgeshire’s top suppliers, meet the venue’s team and tour the beautiful bedrooms. MOVIE STAR Deep Space Media is a video production company with more than 10 years of experience having delivered video services for a number of well-established events and organisations in the UK and Europe. As well as wedding videography, the company is now offering live streaming and social media editing. Live streaming makes a great addition to any wedding for couples who have friends and family that unfortunately can’t make it but would love to watch it live. Social media editing is essentially a short highlight video capturing the best parts of the day in a 60-second video designed to be shared on Instagram and TikTok. These edits can be produced for the bride and groom to share on social media within two weeks of getting married. This can be a great way for couples to share their special day with their friends and family on social media, saving them from having to wait up to 12 weeks for their wedding video. Head over to www.deepspacemedia.co.uk for more information. CONGRATULATIONS! The Hair Base in Gorleston has won several prestigious awards at the Salon Business Awards 2023. The company emerged victorious in six categories, including ‘Best Team’, ‘Best Customer Experience’ and even ‘Best Salon in Norfolk’ for the second consecutive year. Emma Jarvis, the salon owner and curly hair expert, also received Norfolk’s first-ever award, recognising her excellent skills and talent in textured hair. Emma expressed her admiration for her team’s hard work in ensuring the best possible client experience: “Their dedication to staying ahead of trends, technical skills and client experience through continuous training has paid off. What a night! Winning seven awards is amazing. Well done, Team Hair Base! I would like to thank all our wonderful, loyal clients who continue to support The Hair Base and make all of this possible. The current climate is challenging for many salons, with rising costs and the closure of numerous shops on the High Street impacting footfall. These accolades represent our commitment to excellence for our clients and community.” Discover more at www.thehairbasesalon.co.uk THE PERFECT GIFT CONCRETE&WAX offers a collection of handmade concrete homewares and home fragrances hand-poured in small batches in their Suffolk workshop, which would make perfect wedding gifts. THE MALTINGS, CB7 4BB 01353 662 633 | www.themaltingsely.org.uk The Maltings was built in 1868 as part of Ebenezer William Harlock’s brewery complex on Ely’s Waterside, where locally grown barley was processed into malt for brewing. The hall was originally on three separate floors, where barley was added to water and then stored on the first and second floors before being passed to the drying kiln, which is now home to a stage. The building passed through various ownerships, and in 1971, the building was made available to the ‘City of Ely Urban District Council’ for a minimal cost, who converted it into a public hall. The restaurant area was separated from the rest of the building and is now home to Ta Bouche. The Maltings building itself soon returned to operation as the venue you see today and continues to grow its activities. Celebrate in style As well as being ideal for wedding receptions, The Maltings is also licensed to host your ceremony in its beautiful riverside setting. The team endeavours to create bespoke packages to suit your individual requirements and budget; whether you would prefer an intimate gathering, an informal party, or a traditional wedding breakfast, they are happy to assist you throughout the whole experience to ensure your special day is memorable and stress-free. We love... The venue’s rich history and wedding spaces. 22

Aof cosplolausrh Emma and Marwen had a Moroccan and Tunisian-themed wedding in a beautiful tipi Images courtesy of Tim Doyle Photography Emma and Marwen met while on holiday. “It was your typical holiday romance that turned into a life together here in the UK,” says Emma. “Marwen proposed to me during a holiday to Istanbul with our friends. He bought me flowers and a beautiful gold ring with a diamond and asked if I would marry him.” Read on to see some of Emma’s favourite moments from their big day... REAL WEDDINGS 33

The centrepieces were pampas grass and dried colourful flowers in Moroccan vases. Marwen is Tunisian, so we had a civil ceremony in his home country in 2016. We didn’t have any of my family with us apart from my mum and a friend, so we decided to have a blessing in the UK for our seventh anniversary with everyone who couldn’t travel to Tunisia. To decorate the tipi, we had lots of Moroccan lanterns on the floors and paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. We created a chill-out area and also had a fire pit and Arabic rugs. We had a trio of Land Rovers on the day that were owned by family members, which looked great in pictures. Our table plan was a map of Tunisia and the tables were named after where we got married and Marwen’s hometown. Our friends from North Norfolk Catering Company did the catering for the day. We had lots of canapés at our reception, followed by a sharing platter of harissa lamb shoulder, humus, chickpeas, giant couscous, flatbreads and salsa verde. For dessert, we had a Tunisian orange cake, toasted pistachios and crème fraiche. In the evening, we supplied Tunisian cakes, sweets, dates and melon fruit platters. 34

I wore a red dress from Tunisia that had beautiful gems on the front and I accessorised with plain flowers in my hair. All of our suppliers were amazing and went above and beyond for us. We couldn’t have been more blessed. Being in the industry myself, it was just so lovely, as I know them all so well. Marwen chose a blue suit with a grey jacket and a red tie to match my dress. We hired a live band called Ed Raison, who were amazing. They also played some Tunisian music for us in the evening. We had an open mic for our speeches, so whoever wanted to tell a story, read a poem, or give a speech could do so. It was amazing and the best unplanned part of our very relaxed day. The ceremony was so special, easy and relaxed. Our celebrant, Francesca Foulsham, made it so lovely for us. 35 REAL WEDDINGS
