Your East Anglian Wedding - February/March 2024 (Issue 65)

CAKE EXPECTATIONS My wife-to-be and I are looking for a fun cake that will get our guests talking. Do you have any suggestions? Why not opt for a Lambeth/Barbie-effect cake? Dive into a world where every colour and hue transforms your bake into a masterpiece. Elevate the excitement with accent fruits, and let frills, coils, and piping embellishments create a visual feast on your cake table. It’s not just a treat; it’s a celebration of decadence and creativity! Emma Thorburn www.bunsoffun.co.uk www.emilytylerphotography.com DELECTABLE DELIGHTS How can we create an impressive cake for our wedding without it costing the earth? There are a couple of ways that we can create impressive cakes while also managing a tight budget. Firstly, we can use dummy tiers instead of cake to create a larger design without having lots of leftovers. These dummies are iced in the same fashion as the real cake and decorated to match. Obviously, the larger you go, the more decoration you require, and therefore it can incur additional costs. Secondly, use stands and clear acrylic tiers to increase the height and presence of your design. We use hoop stands to help increase the size of the overall design. This works especially well for small bakes. Or you can fill the clear acrylic tiers with flowers, foliage and tiny lights and use them as the base tier of your cake or as another stand to increase the height. The best option is to be honest with your designer about your budget and what you want from your design, and I’m sure that between you, you can create a fantastic cake that will wow your guests. Terri Newman www.erivicacakes.com STEP INTO SPRING What menu would you suggest for a spring wedding? When choosing your menu, think about what’s in season. Spring is particularly nice for the freshness of new-grown foods like asparagus, heritage tomatoes, fresh carrots and strawberries. Salads should be on the menu as spring is all about lighter, more flavourful options paired with an abundance of seasonal fish and crab. Not forgetting the spring lamb, which is sweet as butter and is a classic spring food. It’s a change from the months of chicken and steak and works well with the addition of the light flavours from the new crop of vegetables. Keep your desserts flavourful and light with citrus vanilla rhubarb strawberries and lemon classic tarts, panacottas, or brûlées dressed with a light shortbread or poached berries. Emma Boubaker www.bayfieldcatering.co.uk LIFE OF THE PARTY We’d like our photos to be timeless with a few fun extras. What’s set to be the next big trend in the world of wedding photography? Weddings are becoming more relaxed and informal, with a focus on celebrating your day your way. Most weddings are photographed in a documentary style, capturing key and natural moments discretely while also getting involved in all the fun. I love to capture movement, laughter and fun moments. This is where you really shine. New trends such as proposal photos, unplugged weddings, first-look photos and even day-after photos are seeing a rise in popularity. While influences such as TikTok and social media hashtags are creating a new creative platform for couples. At the end of the day, it’s all about what you love. Have the confidence to find your style and make it work. You’ll always be able to find a photographer who will love to celebrate your style with you.
