85 EXPERT ADVICE Beauty Q&A Local experts share their hair and beauty tips THE FINISHING TOUCH I’d like to give my bridal look an extra touch of glamour. What would you suggest that’s hot for autumn/winter weddings? Katrina says: Adding hair accessories is so on trend currently. They can really transform a style, whether it’s Hollywood waves, half-up or all-up styles, you can really personalise your look. Hair vines, bold headbands, delicate florals, pearl pins, hair scarves and bows are all being seen in bridal styles this season. Veils are popular as well, with many brides matching in details from their dress, like lace or pearls for that extra personal touch.  Simple, modern and timeless styles are on the rise with lots of requests for elegant low bridal buns and relaxed ponytails. We’re also seeing lots of effortless natural texture for a more boho effect and fairytale-style big braids are still going strong too. What can I do in the run-up to our big day to achieve the perfect smile? Dr Bhalla says : Getting your smile wedding ready has never been easier in this day and age, and there are plenty of home tips and tricks, as well as professional treatments that you can opt for in the lead-up to the big day. ❤ The first thing to do is consult your dentist. They’ll be able to give you a check up and offer expert advice, whether that’s dietary suggestions or treatments such as Invisalign, whitening or teeth cleaning. ❤ Eating and drinking the right foods is crucial and cutting out anything that’s likely to stain your teeth, such as red wine, caffeine, juice and curry, is especially helpful. Eat plenty of fruit, especially strawberries that contain malic acid to help naturally whiten teeth. Crunchy fruit and vegetables like apples, carrots and celery are also good as they help produce saliva to keep your mouth clean and healthy. ❤ Ramp up your dental routine, making sure that your teeth stay clean and free from food particles. Flossing throughout the day after every meal helps and I’d also recommend using a fluoride toothpaste, which includes bicarbonate soda, to help whiten and remove any stubborn stains. ❤ See your hygienist about two weeks before the wedding for a last professional clean to ensure that any niggling stains or particles are removed. ❤ If you’re thinking about whitening your teeth it’s advisable to opt for a professional treatment with your dentist for a more effective and longer-lasting effect than over-the-counter kits. ❤ To complement your dazzling nashers, make sure you look after your lips too. Keep them hydrated by using a good balm regularly and for a soft and supple pout, try using a lip scrub to exfoliate and remove any dry flakes. ❤ Remember, practice makes perfect! It may sound silly, but standing in front of a mirror trying out your smile from all angles, is actually the best way to gain confidence and prepare you for the big day. What’s more, it’s a great work out for your mouth and cheek muscles too! Dr Payal Bhalla | Clinic director and lead dentist | www.ipswichdentalsurgery.co.uk www.emm aashdownphotography.co.uk
