Your East Anglian Wedding - June/July2020 (Issue 43)

All the latest from around the region Nearlywed NEWS Many of us have been clapping for the NHS on Thursday nights, banging saucepans and cheering for all our dedicated doctors and nurses. Award-winning cake maker Emma Thorburn of Buns of Fun Bakery did what she does best and came up with this sweet creation as a special thank you. “I have a number of friends working on the frontline and I wanted to showcase the ‘clap for the NHS’ weekly tribute. I adapted one of my new designs the Tall-Tall and painted it edible gold because they’re worth their weight in it!” Visit www.bunsoffun.co.uk LOVE WINS Nothing could stop Rachel and Danny Pugh from getting married – not even a global pandemic! The couple from Saxmundham were due to celebrate at Suffolk countryside wedding venue Glemham Hall on Saturday 21st March; the day after lockdown was announced! Despite everything, they got married anyway and the venue helped arrange a celebration for the two of them, complete with champagne, photos, a first dance and cutting of the cake! Guests numbers had been falling rapidly during the week but Rachel and Danny were there for set-up the day before to see everything in situ – beautiful flowers by Charlotte Staff, name cards and seating plan in place ready and waiting. That evening came the news that weddings and events manager Donna Stockley had been dreading. “The daily update from the prime minister left me in no doubt. We couldn’t possibly go ahead and now I needed to make that telephone call. One of the most heart-wrenching calls I’ve ever had to make,” says Donna. The couple were able to have their church ceremony in Aldeburgh and asked to come to the hall with their photographer to have some photos taken afterwards. Donna then went into action to cover some of the most meaningful moments – the first dance and cutting the cake. With the help of local suppliers Kitty’s Cake and My Big Fat Wedding Disco they managed to pull it off for the newlyweds with social distancing in place! “There was champagne on arrival, of course, and after some photos around the grounds with photographer Caron Gill, it was then off to the marquee for the cutting of the cake and their first dance. Stand by Me by Ben E King was the perfect choice and DJ Gareth kindly surprised them with a confetti canon for a beautiful photo opportunity!” adds Donna. Afterwards Danny said, “We’d been organising our wedding for nearly three years and although it was sad we couldn’t have the day we’d planned, we wanted to get married regardless and it still felt very special and unique.” Venue, www.glemhamhall.co.uk; Ph otography , www.carongillphotography.com; Flo wers, www.facebook.com/charlottestaffflowers; Cake , www.kittyscakes.co.uk; DJ , www.mybigfatweddingdisco.com EDITOR LOVES YOUR ESSENTIALS 9
