Editor Claire checked into Newquay’s adults-only Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa, where she received a very warm welcome Surf’s up! Perched in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is this luxurious four-star retreat, the perfect pick for a beachside honeymoon. DO NOT DISTURB This charming hotel boasts 71 stylish bedrooms and suites, decorated in cool coastal tones that mirror the spectacular surroundings. My home-from-home for the night was one of the Best Rooms on the second floor, an extremely spacious suite perfect for newlyweds, with its freestanding bathtub overlooking the ocean, suitably positioned by the balcony doors to soak up the view. I couldn’t wait to relax on the private balcony with its panoramic view sweeping across the iconic Fistral Beach to watch the surfers in action – they’re out there from sunrise to sunset! Other highlights for honeymooners include The Suite, with a king-size Hypnos bed, and a private hot tub positioned to look out to sea. SO SPA, SO GOOD The wellness journey starts the moment you enter the Fistral Spa, complimentary to resident guests and open until 10 pm every evening. At the heart of this oasis is the Vitality Suite’s heated indoor pool with massage jet, a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and relaxation area. There’s also a Fitness Suite featuring all the latest gym equipment and treatment rooms, including one for couples. The delightful array of treatments on the menu using GAIA skincare products include massages, facials and GAIA rituals and journeys. Favourites include the Quiksilver Surfers Massage and the Ocean GAIA Ritual. I enjoyed a 60-minute Everglowing Face & Body treatment with the experienced therapist Ella, which was pure bliss! Guests in the hotel receive a 10% discount on spa treatments (booking is recommended), and non-resident guests are only invited to use the spa when booking a spa day package. Spa-goers can build their own package with extras like the afternoon tea, £25pp and chocolates with a glass of prosecco, £15pp. FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD A popular spot at this fashionable hotel is the surf-themed, 2 AA Rosette Dune Restaurant, where guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast with unlimited mimosas and prosecco. Dinner here isn’t to be missed, with a seasonal menu offering mouth-watering dishes created using the freshest local Cornish ingredients. I enjoyed one of the best tables by the window with a wonderful sea view and was thoroughly looked after by the friendly team. I tucked into the Cornish mackerel to start, served with gooseberry, vanilla, pickled kohlrabi, dukkah and horseradish, followed by the lemon sole market fish of the day that tasted wonderful with champagne risotto, mussels, samphire and dill oil. Those wanting to enjoy the Storm in a Teacup afternoon tea with a view, one of Newquay’s finest, can do so in the beachfront Bay Bar, which offers a relaxed, laid-back vibe. Tasty sandwiches and sweet treats are served alongside Novus teas, and there’s also tea with a tipple that includes a delicious cocktail. BOOK IT Prices start from £140, including breakfast, based on two adults sharing an economy room. fistralbeachhotel.co.uk instagram.com/fistralbeachhotel facebook.com/FistralBeachHotel Scan to view video HONEYMOONS 17
