Editor Claire checked into Newquay’s adults-only Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa, where she received a very warm welcome Surf’s up! Perched in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is this luxurious four-star retreat, the perfect pick for a beachside honeymoon. DO NOT DISTURB This charming hotel boasts 71 stylish bedrooms and suites, decorated in cool coastal tones that mirror the spectacular surroundings. My home-from-home for the night was one of the Best Rooms on the second floor, an extremely spacious suite perfect for newlyweds, with its freestanding bathtub overlooking the ocean, suitably positioned by the balcony doors to soak up the view. I couldn’t wait to relax on the private balcony with its panoramic view sweeping across the iconic Fistral Beach to watch the surfers in action – they’re out there from sunrise to sunset! Other highlights for honeymooners include The Suite, with a king-size Hypnos bed, and a private hot tub positioned to look out to sea. SO SPA, SO GOOD The wellness journey starts the moment you enter the Fistral Spa, complimentary to resident guests and open until 10 pm every evening. At the heart of this oasis is the Vitality Suite’s heated indoor pool with massage jet, a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and relaxation area. There’s also a Fitness Suite featuring all the latest gym equipment and treatment rooms, including one for couples. The delightful array of treatments on the menu using GAIA skincare products include massages, facials and GAIA rituals and journeys. Favourites include the Quiksilver Surfers Massage and the Ocean GAIA Ritual. I enjoyed a 60-minute Everglowing Face & Body treatment with the experienced therapist Ella, which was pure bliss! Guests in the hotel receive a 10% discount on spa treatments (booking is recommended), and non-resident guests are only invited to use the spa when booking a spa day package. Spa-goers can build their own package with extras like the afternoon tea, £25pp and chocolates with a glass of prosecco, £15pp. FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD A popular spot at this fashionable hotel is the surf-themed, 2 AA Rosette Dune Restaurant, where guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast with unlimited mimosas and prosecco. Dinner here isn’t to be missed, with a seasonal menu offering mouth-watering dishes created using the freshest local Cornish ingredients. I enjoyed one of the best tables by the window with a wonderful sea view and was thoroughly looked after by the friendly team. I tucked into the Cornish mackerel to start, served with gooseberry, vanilla, pickled kohlrabi, dukkah and horseradish, followed by the lemon sole market fish of the day that tasted wonderful with champagne risotto, mussels, samphire and dill oil. Those wanting to enjoy the Storm in a Teacup afternoon tea with a view, one of Newquay’s finest, can do so in the beachfront Bay Bar, which offers a relaxed, laid-back vibe. Tasty sandwiches and sweet treats are served alongside Novus teas, and there’s also tea with a tipple that includes a delicious cocktail. 07592 778154 • hannahfrostphotography@outlook.com www.hannahfrostphotography.co.uk @hannahfrostphotography Planning your wedding day, looking for someone to capture your day. Look no further. With my bubbly friendly approach, I want to be not just your photographer but a friend too. My aim is to fit in with the other guests so you can enjoy the day as much as possible. However It’s important to capture all those moments that you do and don’t see. From first thing in the morning to the “we do’s” until your feet hit that dance floor. My photography stems from my fun personality. keeping it simple. Never putting you in a position that makes you feel uncomfortable. I love capturing your natural smiles, and all things that make you... you... Editor Claire chats to Hannah, founder of Hannah Frost Photography What style of wedding photography do you offer? I have a fun, relaxed style that captures candid moments, including the important first kiss. I aim to be unobtrusive at each celebration and work with each couple to ensure they have time with their loved ones, as well as some precious time for each other throughout the day. I have been known to be the unexpected bridesmaid, helping with the bride’s dress and veil, providing extra hair grips, and topping up empty glasses. Based in Mid Devon, I cover mostly Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, and the South West but I would travel if requested. What’s your approach to wedding photography? I started out as a second shooter nine years ago, gradually working on my own bookings, beginning with small family shoots before photographing weddings on my own. I now have a great client base and love every minute of what I do. When I’m not shooting weddings, family portraits, pre-wedding and engagement shoots, I work as a nurse two days a week in an Emergency Department. Combining the two is incredible - seeing different sides of life really makes me appreciate what I have and what my amazing couples allow me to be part of. Weddings give me a small insight into the wonderful lives of people for one day, sharing in happiness, fun and laughter. I never thought I would be where I am with my photography today when I first started out. I feel so lucky to have couples and families trust in me. What do you love most about your job? I do photography for the love and interest I have in making people smile in a world that can be tough. Life goes by so quickly, and knowing I’ve created small memories for people gives me great happiness. hannahfrostphotography.co.uk instagram.com/hannahfrostphotography MEMORIES MADE FOREVER
“ ” “The entire day, from start to finish, was a highlight - it was wonderful to see our family sharing such a special moment with us.” - Alfie 22
MAGIC Monochrome Brooke and Alfie’s November wedding took place at Plymouth’s The Treasury Cafe, Bar and Restaurant Images courtesy of Picture Matilda Photography Brooke and Alfie met through a mutual friend when they were both 18. “Alfie was finishing college, and I was studying for my A Levels,” Brooke tells us. “Alfie pursued me for about six months before we started dating!” The couple became engaged during a romantic proposal at Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa in Newquay. “The proposal was perfect for us because the hotel is one of our favourites, and I got to pick my dream ring,” Brooke tells us. The couple wanted a small, intimate ceremony, so they married at their local register office and enjoyed a reception with nine members of their immediate family at The Treasury Cafe, Bar and Restaurant in Plymouth. “We have many happy memories from nights out and hosting our engagement party there, so we would never have chosen anywhere else to celebrate our day,” Brooke says. The dress code for guests was black tie, and the couple’s theme was minimalist, featuring chic black accents. “I was inspired by Sophie Habboo and Jamie Laing’s London ceremony, which is the vibe we went for.” The team at The Treasury served a relaxed family-style buffet after the couple’s ceremony, including chicken tenders and chilli cheese bites. “We didn’t want a three-course dinner, so I left the menu selections up to my dad, who chose some of our favourite dishes,” Brooke says. “We had two bottles of Whispering Angel rosé wine and a bottle of Laurent-Perrier champagne on our table to toast; however, most of our guests do not drink, so there was plenty of tea and Diet Cokes too,” Brooke tells us. “We all enjoyed a slice of our lemon wedding cake, which is our favourite flavour. This was the first-ever wedding cake that our supplier had made, which made it even more special.” Brooke gave a short speech before the toast, and Alfie’s father read a message from Alfie’s aunt and uncle, who live in New Zealand and couldn’t make it to the ceremony. “I can be quite a stoic person, so having the opportunity to show a more vulnerable side to our closest family members was special, as it allowed them to see a different side to our relationship that we don’t share very often,” Brooke says. “After dinner, we had some friends and extended family members join us to celebrate, which continued the festivities late into the evening.” Brooke wore a stylish Karen Millen two-piece suit. “As soon as I saw the structured shoulders on the blazer, I knew it was the outfit for me,” she tells us. “The style is reflective of who I am. My black glittery Jimmy Choo shoes were the showstopper – I chose the tallest pair that I could walk in!” Brooke teamed her outfit with a pair of Chanel earrings and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch. “My rings worn on my right hand are family heirlooms, my diamond necklace was a gift from my parents, and I also carried the Saint Laurent Mini Lou Camera Bag and wore a pair of Saint Laurent heart sunglasses,” she tells us. “Most of my accessories are items I already have in my collection and were not purchased specifically for the day.” Alfie wore a black velour and satin dinner jacket, a pair of black tailored trousers with a satin stripe, a satin bow tie, gold cufflinks, patent leather slip-on loafers and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses for a few of the photographs. Helen and Howard met by chance and fell in love. They married at St Michael’s Church, Axmouth, on Saturday, 2nd August 2025 and enjoyed a fun-filled waterside reception at Lower Bruckland Wildlife Gardens & Nature Reserve. A vintage Bedford bus carried guests to and from the church, where Reverend Nicky Davies conducted the ceremony. “It was beautiful, and included our religious and romantic requests,” Helen tells us. “Our rings were flown into the church service by a barn owl called Dusty, and my son, Matthew, was the receiver of the bird, which was a surprise for the congregation. Our guests could interact with and handle the bird of prey in the churchyard afterwards, which was a nice touch.” A red 1920s car transported the newlyweds to their reception, where Great Gatsby-themed entertainers greeted them, including a crystal ball performer, a close-up magician, a hula hoop act, burlesque Gatsby girls and a martini glass act. “Our guests enjoyed Bucks Fizz on arrival, and a quirky seaside-themed menu with a fish and chip lunch followed by ice cream,” Helen says. “Everybody enjoyed pizza, popcorn, and the crisp wall for supper, and we also served Camel Valley Pinot Noir Rose Brut and Ferrero Rocher from a burlesque champagne skirt.” Helen adds, “We loved our mini raspberry pavlovas handmade with Devon clotted cream and eggs which were decorated with chocolate-dipped mint leaves, fresh blueberries and strawberries and tasted delicious!” Helen spent 12 months making and designing the props. “We had confetti created using hand-dried red rose petals,” she tells us. “I also hand-crafted hula hoops with flowers, and we had mannequins wearing outfits from the era. We also had a converted wedding bicycle and a restored vintage circus tricycle, which looked great.” Helen wore a red off-the-shoulder bridal gown with a matching wrap, decorated with red pearls. “Red is one of my favourite colours, and it was the perfect fit,” Helen tells us. “I adored the rose ruffles because roses are my favourite flowers.” “The Wedding Speech Performer, Tom Vinall, had everybody laughing, and was exceptional at delivering witty humour and captivating the room.” - Helen 30
Howard wore a black and red velvet tailcoat in a circus ringmaster style, with braces, a matching waistcoat and bow tie and a pair of red dancing shoes. “My sons, Owen and Matthew, wore coordinated attire that worked with our red and cream colour theme, and our adult bridesmaid and flowergirl looked beautiful in their pretty dresses,” Helen says. “We had a dress code for our guests based on the 1920s Gatsby theme, so there were plenty of flapper costumes worn on the day, which added to the great atmosphere!” Guests enjoyed performances from a local choir, organist, pianist and string musicians, including tracks that reflected the couple’s love story. “The evening concluded by the lake with a fire heart and sparkler display after our guests had enjoyed having their own caricature sketched by an artist, accompanied by live music from the era,” Helen says. TOP TIP: Enjoy every moment of the planning and preparation - what makes your wedding is what you put into creating it. - Helen and Howard “Our wedding gift list alternative was donations to The Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT).” - Helen and Howard REAL WEDDINGS 31

In September 2020, it expanded into a dog grooming service, and in 2025, it added the additional service of wedding chaperoning. The business is based in Exeter, Devon, and mainly covers celebrations throughout Devon and Cornwall. “I’m willing to travel elsewhere at an additional cost,” Mollie-Mae explains. When asked what she loves most about her job, Mollie-Mae tells us, “I thrive on the opportunity to make a real difference in a dog’s comfort and confidence. Something is enriching about taking a nervous or messy pup and helping them feel comfortable, relaxed, and happy by the end of the session with Walks ‘N’ Wags.” Mollie-Mae adds. “I enjoy building trust and a bond with each dog, and knowing that my care not only makes them look gorgeous but also supports their health and wellbeing.
