He carries scented dried rose petals, homemade from the rose garden at the farm (or confetti of the couple’s choice) in his vintage wicker baskets. He ensures each guest has a handful ready to throw - creating the perfect confetti moment! If it isn’t allowed at the venue, Archie P can deliver bubbles, favours or anything else that the couple requests. Depending on the location, he can also act as the ring bearer! The flowers that Archie P wears can coordinate with the colour theme of each wedding, which works well in big-day photographs, and Laura works with each couple to create a bespoke experience. Archie P also makes the cutest butler, helping to serve drinks from bottles placed in his side baskets. A quirky champagne serving cart can also be requested ready to set up for a drinks reception inside or out. Laura tells us, “Talking to our wedding couples, the owners of the venues and other local suppliers, and designing how Archie P can fit into each wedding is so much fun! Seeing each special occasion unfold and how he lights up the atmosphere is magical!” Laura and Will involve their children (Molly and Archie, who shares the same name as Archie P) and have taken them on a styled shoot to model as the bridesmaid and pageboy. “They love looking after Archie P, helping to get him ready,” Laura tells us. “We have recently purchased two miniature Shetland foals, Lottie and Hamish, who the children are handling and training for being future confetti ponies!” thedevonchampagneandconfettipony.co.uk instagram.com/archiep_devonpony PONY LOVERS

The Pinnacle Guide, often described as the Michelin Guide of the drinks world, celebrates outstanding bars for their quality, consistency, sustainability, and service. Achieving a star involves a rigorous process, including mystery reviews and a detailed assessment of each venue’s ethos and operational excellence. Owner Jamie said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive a Pinnacle Guide Star. It’s a reflection of our team’s dedication to quality, creativity, and the customer experience. From day one, our ethos has centred on exceptional service, sustainability, and serving drinks we’re truly proud of.” Founded in 2016, Tom Thumb began as a vision inspired by international travels and a desire to bring something unique to Newquay’s nightlife. Since becoming the sole owner in 2020, Jamie has evolved the bar into one of Cornwall’s most respected cocktail destinations, specialising in craft cocktails, house-made ingredients, and sustainable practices. At Tom Thumb, everything from the syrups and infusions to the ice is crafted in-house. The team uses innovative culinary techniques such as fermentation, clarification, and self-carbonation, creating drinks that are both inventive and environmentally conscious. This commitment also earned the venue recognition as one of the Top 3 Most Sustainable Bars in the UK by Top 50 Cocktail Bars. “We see ourselves as part of the community, not just a business in it,” Jamie added. “This recognition isn’t just for us — it’s for Newquay’s growing, diverse, and vibrant hospitality scene.” Tom Thumb continues to set the bar high for hospitality in Cornwall, and this award marks another exciting milestone in their journey. tom-thumb.co.uk EDITOR’S CHOICE Sorrell Jewels, a Devon-born curated vintage jewellery brand, offers something old and something blue for weddings. IN CORNWALL Created Luxury Cornish wedding venue Tredudwell Manor provided the beautiful backdrop for Bekki and Matt’s timeless big day Images courtesy of Dan Ward Photography Bekki and Matt met in a pub surrounded by mutual friends. “I felt an immediate spark for Matt,” Bekki tells us. “Afterwards, we kept running into each other before beginning a relationship, and after 18 months, we became engaged during a trip to London while visiting the Sky Garden.” Tredudwell Manor was the very first venue the couple viewed. “Hayley, the wedding coordinator, really impressed us with her helpful and informative manner,” Bekki explains. “After visiting other Cornish venues, we both realized that nothing compared to what Tredudwell Manor had to offer with its spectacular grounds and meticulous attention to detail.” Bekki and Matt’s wedding date was May 10, 2025. “The most memorable moment of the day was walking down the aisle and catching my first glimpse of Matt,” Bekki tells us. “As soon as our eyes met, we were both overcome with emotion.” Bekki and Matt wanted a classic wedding infused with romantic charm. “We had candles as our centrepieces along with gold cutlery, and we filled the venue with fresh floral arrangements,” Bekki says. Guests enjoyed delicious canapés, a beautifully presented three-course, sit-down wedding breakfast incorporating Bekki and Matt’s favourite dishes and a barbecue buffet during the evening. “This was a hit with our guests,” Bekki says. “The finishing touch was our fabulous five-tier cake that made a stunning centrepiece and tasted great. We couldn’t have asked for a better culinary experience!” Bekki chose a Millie Grace A-line lace dress featuring a stunning golden underlay. “As soon as I slipped into it, I knew it was the style for me,” she tells us. “It was the third dress that I tried on, and the moment I saw my reflection in the mirror, I was overcome with emotion. When I revealed it to my mother, grandmother, and aunt, they were all moved to tears.” Matt wore a beige suit with a gold waistcoat, while his groomsmen wore identical suits to his with plain waistcoats. “Our beautiful bridesmaids wore pale blue full-length, halterneck dresses,” Bekki says. “My bridesman coordinated with them in a pale blue suit, and they all had pretty soft pink bouquets and buttonholes.” The couple ensured their guests were thoroughly entertained throughout their special day. “We hired lawn games that delighted the children,” Bekki says. “Arian Ward captivated everyone with his impressive magic tricks, leaving our guests in awe. We also arranged for Cornwall Caricaturists to be present throughout the day, creating delightful illustrations. For our evening reception, we had an exceptional disco complemented by a photo booth and a S’mores bar. To conclude the night, we treated our guests to a stunning fireworks display, which everybody loved.” REAL WEDDINGS 19

A Cornish affair Tyler and Ryan’s May wedding enjoyed the backdrop of The Alverton in Truro, dressed in a blush pink colour theme Images courtesy of Timothy James Photography Images courtesy of I do Film + Photos REAL WEDDINGS 25

Tyler and Ryan met through mutual friends at a pub in Helston and enjoyed a dog walk at Cornwall’s Rinsey Cove as their first date. “Ryan surprised me with a candlelit proposal in August 2023 at home,” Tyler tells us. “I had no idea and had just returned from football training in the rain!” The couple chose The Alverton, a picturesque hotel in the heart of Cornwall, as their venue. “The stunning gardens and architecture attracted us both immediately, and we booked it straightaway after having a viewing with Alex,” Tyler tells us. The inspiration behind the couple’s wedding theme was a Marc Jacobs perfume advert. “I chose blush pink blooms, gypsophila and large daisies,” Tyler says. “Pinterest became my best friend, and I found an image of a tablescape with a sage green runner and multiple candles at varying heights, which I wanted to recreate with a blush pink runner. The simple gypsophila flowers complemented the daisies beautifully.” A highlight of their day was walking into the great hall for the wedding breakfast and seeing how their vision had come to life. “We were overwhelmed with the love in the room from all of our family and friends gathered there,” says Tyler. On the day, guests enjoyed tomato soup or antipasti to start, followed by roast chicken or roast beef, and lemon tart or sticky toffee pudding for dessert. “We had a snack wall for our guests to enjoy after our ceremony,” Tyler tells us. “During TOP TIP: Pay for as much as you can upfront to put your mind at ease in the lead-up to the day, and always select things for your wedding based on your gut instinct.” - Tyler and Ryan 26

the evening, we had a delicious Cornish buffet that included pasties and cream tea, and we paid for the bar bill.” Tyler wore a dress designed by Justin Alexander. “I’m not normally an emotional person, but as soon as I tried that gown on (which happened to be the first one I looked at), I cried instantly,” she tells us. “Elaine, the boutique owner helped me select a veil, and I paired it with white sparkly shoes from Rainbow Club, gifted to me by my maid-of-honour.” Ryan and his groomsmen wore three-piece suits in light grey with checked patterns. “Ryan wore a different tie and our bridesmaids all wore blush pink dresses that tied in well with our theme,” Tyler says. The couple styled their reception with illuminated LOVE letters and a sweetie cart, and kept their guests entertained by Cassie, a caricature artist based in Cornwall. “We also hired a magician to amuse guests, and we had a tarot card reader for the evening reception,” Tyler says. “A photo booth, answerphone guest book and the live singer Toby Webb, who performed traditional Sea Shanty songs, helped to entertain our loved ones before the live band performed. They learnt songs that we wanted and got everybody up and dancing before the DJ ended the evening.” REAL WEDDINGS 27

Smile for Strike a pose with confidence on your wedding day THE CAMERA All images courtesy of unsplash.com Ensure you book a wedding photographer with whom you both get along well and share a good rapport. A good way of knowing this is to book a pre-wedding engagement shoot. If you’re planning an engagement shoot, you’ll decide on a location together with your photographer. Decide whether to book a full-day photography session from the bridal preparation to the first dance, or a shorter session that may end after the speeches. Trust your photographer, they are a professional after all. If you can’t afford, or don’t want, an engagement shoot, then ask to meet them face-to-face before your wedding. You want your chosen photographer to be familiar with you on the day, one who can help and capture some incredible memorable moments! Brief your photographer to keep an eye out for and capture those intimate, often unseen moments on your big day. There are many elements to planning a wedding, from deciding on the dress and venue to the flowers, cake and entertainment. After booking the venue, the photographer should be at the top of the list to research. Your wedding day will pass quickly, and the photos will provide a lasting reminder of the day, so you’ll want them to reflect the love, joy and happiness from the celebration. Check how your photographer will deliver the final images, whether it be on a USB stick, in an album or emailed as a gallery. If you’re having getting-ready photographs taken, pick a spacious suite that offers plenty of natural daylight and open any curtains or blinds. Always make sure the background of the room looks neat. Sit facing towards the window during the hair and make-up session on the morning of the wedding so that your face is lit by natural light. PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY 37

All images courtesy of unsplash.com A good wedding photographer won’t be noticeable all of the time because they will be busy capturing you and your guests looking happy and relaxed. Often, couples become friends with their wedding photographer who goes on to photograph newborns, pets or extended family members. A professional photographer can empathise with the diversity of family relationships. Weddings are so unique, and so are families. Brief your photographer if there are people you do or don’t wish to be photographed together. Don’t forget to apply make-up touch-ups on the day! It’s important to have the portrait pictures and family images, along with those of the venue, styled for the occasion. Gather family members in smaller groups, be organised in advance and communicate with your photographer who you’d like in the images. If you want your wedding dress, bridal shoes, bouquets and buttonholes photographed, put these together with any other details you might like captured, such as jewellery and perfume bottles. Replace any metal hangers with cute fabric ones, which will appear nicer in the shots. Do your research and show your chosen photographer inspiration about the types of photos you want to achieve from your wedding. For example, there may be a particular look you want to re-create, or a mix of formal, informal and creative images. If you’re planning on having confetti thrown at your wedding, and you’ve checked that the venue allows it, then let your photographer know in advance because they can arrange guests efficiently after the ceremony. Always allow time in the day for your wedding photography, especially between the ceremony and wedding breakfast, when the majority of the images from the confetti shot to the family photographs and couple portraits are taken. Why not practise a few poses in front of a mirror before your wedding? When the big day arrives, you’ll feel confident in knowing how you look! Always ask for a couple of photographs of all your guests gathered together – it makes for a wonderful memory! For those who are camera-shy, book a photographer who offers a laid-back style specialising in natural images. That way, you won’t have to pose all day! 38

Love behind the lens The benefits of booking a videographer Music is vital in making a great wedding film. Enquire whether the videographer you wish to book has the copyright for the songs you might want. Many have this – but it’s good to be sure before your wedding video goes on social media! The sounds of the day are key in being able to relive your special day, for example, the father-of-the-bride giving a speech, or your mum giving you some marriage advice. Drones create impressive footage, but check regulations with your venue. If you decide to book both a wedding photographer and a videographer, consider choosing professionals who have different styles. That way, the video won’t duplicate the photographs. Wedding photos document the day with everything perfectly visible in bright colours (or black and white) while videography tells a more compelling story of the day using images that don’t need to be perfectly exposed. Light, angles, and composition work together to create beautiful big-day memories – storytelling is key. Loved ones can be captured with video, the way they laugh or dance, meaning you can relive memories of the people you love. Having all of your friends and family together in one place doesn’t happen often. Finally, videos can be shared on social media and with guests who couldn’t attend. What a wonderful reminder of the biggest day of your life! All images courtesy of unsplash.com PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY 39

GET CREATIVE Wow wedding guests with hand-crafted and original big-day choices All images courtesy of unsplash.com Stock an ice cream bar with unusual flavours and toppings (not forgetting the sprinkles) or a doughnut wall of your favourite flavours. Wedding buffets are ideal if you’re looking for something less formal. Food can be presented on long tables or at food stations so that guests can help themselves. Large bowls of homemade salad and rice are popular side dishes, and Middle Eastern or Mediterranean choices including pita, dips, goat’s cheese and curried chicken are becoming more popular. Be creative with handmade canapés and small bites, from mini steak or lobster burgers, fish and chips served in small cones and sushi rolls to arancini balls, spring rolls and crostini. Try to provide a vegetarian and vegan option. What’s on the menu? When it comes to hand-crafting a bespoke wedding menu, there are many dishes and styles to choose from. The traditional sit-down wedding breakfast can include your favourite food choices, or even reflect the countries you’ve both visited. Sustainable sharing platters are a great way to showcase British classics such as Scotch eggs, mini pork pies and pickles, while Spanish chorizo, cold meats, falafel and hummus are other popular picks. While food vans not only serve favourites like fish and chips and pizza, they also look fantastic in wedding photographs! Delicious dessert tables can feature hand-picked sweet and savoury treats, from brownies, cake pops, cookies and muffins to cheese varieties served with artisan bread and olives - why not ask your guests to contribute a dessert? Barbecues and hog roasts are still a hit, as are big pots of handmade paella or chilli. A sweetie cart, popcorn station or a snack bar stocked with crisps and nuts is a great way for guests to graze between meals. Who doesn’t love a midnight pizza delivery after all of that dancing - the options for pizza toppings are endless! HANDMADE 41

All images courtesy of unsplash.com SOMETHING TO DRINK? Long gone are the days when champagne and pimms were the main drink of choice at a wedding. Now there are colourful cocktails and mocktails, flavoured gin, prosecco and nozeco, and craft beers and ciders that can be served from a decorated pop-up bar or a handmade one. Always offer a selection of non-alcoholic beverages too. FABULOUS FASHION Handmade wedding dresses, altered bridesmaid styles and statement headpieces and accessories made with hand-embellished gems not only look amazing, they’re often one-off pieces. Big-day jewellery can be tweaked with heirloom gems or semi-precious stones of your choice, and the male bridal party attire can be tailor-made to fit the theme. ALL THINGS FLORAL Nothing says handmade like a fresh flower arrangement, a beautiful bridal bouquet or posy. Faux flowers are also trending because of their sustainable benefits and ease of adjusting to fit in with any colour palette. Don’t forget about trees, plants and succulents – why not start growing these well ahead of your wedding day and then re-plant them in pots decorated to coordinate with the theme? ICING ON THE CAKE Wedding cakes, including towers of cheese, are getting taller, tastier and more creative than ever, with flavours reflecting wedding themes or the couple’s love story. Summer weddings provide a chance to try passionfruit or elderflower flavours, while winter weddings will want berries, salted caramel or cinnamon choices. Whichever you pick, consider tiers of different ones and encourage guests to try them all! GORGEOUS GIFTING Wanting a fun way to thank your folks that’s different from the standard bouquet? Commission a handmade pottery piece, make them some bespoke bunting or customise a candle. 42

All images courtesy of unsplash.com SAY IT WITH STATIONERY Couples having a DIY wedding can really go to town with their stationery, with handmade pieces featuring stunning wax seals, gold foil, bright watercolour designs, laser-cut details and personalised stamps. SAY IT WITH SIGNAGE Whether it’s a neon sign, a hand-painted one or wooden boards (often made from an old pallet), they’re a great way of directing guests on the big day. DECORATIVE DETAILS Everything from table linen personalised with the wedding date to centrepieces stood on log slices engraved with the newly married initials can be hand-crafted to suit the wedding theme. Get creative by potting tiny plants as favours, hand-painting mix-and-match coloured glassware or decorating jars to hold tea lights, colourful fairylights and candles. PROP IT From floral ceremony backdrops and vintage bookshelves to blackboards and frames detailing the order of the day, handmade wedding props have never been such fun! HANDMADE 43
