Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - March/April 2021 (Issue 30)

HOLNE PARK HOUSE, ASHBURTON This exclusive-use manor house located on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park is tucked away in 90 acres of woodland and grounds. The pretty manicured gardens, lakes and rivers provide wonderful photo opportunities and there’s easy access to the River Dart Country Park. The AA-approved camping and touring park here provides guest accommodation with the house offering an opulent wedding suite for newlyweds. The venue was awarded Gold in the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award and a Special Award for Energy Efficiency in the Visit Devon Tourism Awards 2019. In the same awards, the property also won Wedding Venue of the Year. Both River Dart Country Park and Holne Park House use the same energy sources and sustainable practices. Ceremonies take place in a choice of interconnecting reception rooms perfect for micro weddings or for larger, grand affairs (when restrictions lift). Outside there’s the Garden Pavilion situated in a stunning countryside setting revealing magical sunsets. The Ballroom, with its high ceilings and large windows, offers an elegant option for the wedding breakfast and evening reception while the Dawson Room is another choice for a more intimate dinner. The Inkwell, with its glass lantern roof and marble fireplace, is a great spot to welcome guests. Ceremony licence? UPTON BARN & WALLED GARDEN, CULLOMPTON This exclusive-use venue is positioned in the beautiful Devon countryside allowing for panoramic views of the Blackdown Hills and surrounding areas. It marries contemporary and traditional architecture and the jewel in the crown is the Walled Garden with its neatly manicured lawns, fragrant flower beds and hand-crafted oak arbour at the end of a lavender-lined aisle. This provides a stunning ceremony backdrop and the ideal spot for al fresco drinks, canapés and garden games. The grounds beyond offer the opportunity to capture picture-perfect photographs by the fountain in the lake, the horses in the paddocks and at sunset. The Cider Barn, with its polished concrete floor and oak trusses, provides a beautiful indoor space for ceremonies of up to 156 guests (when restrictions lift), a great indoor option depending on the weather. The fully glazed gable end allows for uninterrupted views of the Walled Garden and the romantic fairylights decorating it creates a romantic setting. The Stable Barn is the newest space, designed with warm timber panelling, stylish bespoke lighting and a floor-to-ceiling window that floods the room with light. It’s best suited to the wedding breakfast and evening reception (when restrictions lift) because it has a bar at one end. The Press Bar, with its cosy wood-burning stove, comfortable seating and bar serves a wide selection of artisanal beverages while The Tack Room is a quiet, cosy space and outside there are firepits that guests can use to toast marshmallows over.
