Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - January/February 2021 (Issue 29)

71 EXPERT ADVICE Our experts answer your questions Q&A Beauty NEW BEGINNINGS We’re getting married this summer so I would love some ideas for my make-up and hair. Meet the expert: Kimberly Holland is a bridal hair and make-up artist covering weddings across Cornwall. Kimberly says: Soft and loose romantic hairstyles with beachy waves and curls are still a very popular choice. Brides are enjoying this unstructured boho style that can be easily accessorised with many different options. These pretty hair designs are timeless and I know I’ll have brides requesting them for a long while yet. However, while a more casual style continues to be popular, I think we will see more brides opting for chic, smooth styles too. Simple low ponytails, elegant chignons and classic French pleats are on-trend and suit simple, unembellished gowns. Pairing a middle parting with these styles will keep them modern for 2021. Many of my brides are requesting a strong make-up look with a bold burgundy or rich red lip colour and dark eye make-up. Rose gold and pink tones have been a preferred pallet for the past couple of summers and while I still use them a lot with some brides preferring the natural look, I am also adding smokier shades to them. Summer 2021 is going to be full of colour so be brave and try it out at your trial appointment! What do you suggest? Meet the expert: Kath Floyd is a style coach and professional make-up artist based in Barnstaple, Devon. Kath says: Hiring a style coach in the run-up to your wedding and honeymoon offers the perfect opportunity to do something fun with your mum and spend some quality time together. I offer makeovers and personal shopping trips which are very popular, especially around Mother’s Day. They also work well close to the date of the wedding trial and can easily be adapted to suit any occasion, for example, a shopping trip for buying the bridal dress or female bridal party outfits. Mother-of-the-bride colour analysis is a very helpful way to determine the best colours for her outfit and also helps you as the bride pick shades for your bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers. I also offer a mother-of-the-bride body shape service which is helpful for your mum to learn about what styles best suit her figure. As a style coach, I can also help to find you your dream wedding gown. Brides with no idea where to start ask for my help because I can show them what style of dress would best suit their body shape and maybe look at alternative colours to the traditional white and ivory. Another fun service that I offer which provides a great way to spend time with your mum while packing for your honeymoon is wardrobe editing where I create capsule collections for your honeymoon. I also have a pop-up shop where I sell a range of clothes so I can bring these along. This is a great way of shopping at the moment if you want something a bit different from the high street and don’t want to buy online where you’re often guessing at sizes and having to send things back. Soft pink, baby blue and blush colours with a touch of sparkle are going to be trending, with Instagram full of fun ideas.
