Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - September/October 2020 (Issue 27)

DRESS TO IMPRESS Meet the expert: Mandy Winn is the owner of Frocks & Frills Wedding Studio located near Falmouth in Cornwall, a one-stop wedding shop with more than 400 dresses in store from designers including Veromia, Romantica, and the multi- award winning Sonsie plus-size collection. We are planning a winter wedding. What bridal dress styles and accessories would be good for style and warmth? Also, what colours would you recommend for our two bridesmaids? Mandy says: Winter is such a magical time of the year to get married. Dresses with plenty of sparkle add that extra special touch, whether it’s sequins on lace appliqué, a glitter-tulle under skirt or even a beaded belt. The warmer tones of champagne, blush and oyster are becoming increasingly popular for many brides as an alternative to traditional ivory or white gowns. Many styles are now available with sleeves which make a real statement, and capes or cape veils are a good investment because they can be easily removed for the reception. Our bridesmaids’ dresses are available in every colourway but I recommend warm, autumnal shades for a winter wedding. Dark bold tones of green, gold, copper, burnt orange, deep red, purple and blue work well, as does silver. Satin is a slightly heavier, warmer material and why not consider a fully sequinned style for your bridesmaids? To finish your bridal look, faux fur wraps or stoles are available in a wide range of colours and styles which suit most dresses. We want to arrive in style at our vintage-themed wedding in something cool and retro. We would also like to transport our bridal party in something along the same lines - what can you suggest? Linda says: Alongside our fleet of luxury modern coaches, we are proud to own a collection of vintage vehicles that can be hired, complete with a chauffeur, for weddings. From a 1923 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost in burgundy and silver that seats four passengers and a 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom 1 Open Tourer in black, to a 1950 Bentley Mark 6 in two-tone green and a cream 1961 Jaguar Mark 11, there is something to suit every wedding. Our blue and cream 1936 Rolls-Royce makes a cool backdrop for photos and is a great way to transport the groomsmen to the wedding. Why not wow your guests with and our green and cream 1950 Bedford OB passenger bus with 24 reclining seats? Taw and Torridge of Devon | 01805 603 400 | www.tawandtorridge.co.uk EXPERT ADVICE 63
