A C L O S E S H A V E Melissa Barker chats to Graham Fish, the director of men-ü, about the brand and how grooms-to-be can look their big day best Tell us more about your company and what you offer customers? At men-ü, we offer a range of quality grooming products that are different from anything else on the market. We recently celebrated our 20 th year of business and are trying to minimise our impact on the environment by using up to 90 per cent less packaging, ultra-concentrated items, re-fill packs and reusable pumps. How do you suggest grooms-to-be prepare their skin before shaving? We recommended going to the salon or barbers just before the big day, but if that’s not possible, make sure the skin is soaked with warm water before shaving to help soften the beard. Next, apply shave cream and move the razor in line with the hair growth. What are your top tips for getting a smooth finish? Ideally, go to a professional and ask for advice. We provide our clients with growth maps with our wet cuts that can be taken home. This is useful as without knowing which way the hair grows, it’s easy to go against the grain, which can lead to irritation and in many cases, highlights why men think they have sensitive skin. Don’t rush! Enjoy the process and repeat it. The reason professionals shave their clients twice isn’t to waste time, it’s because they can’t get all of it the first time around. A great example of an ultra-concentrated and high-performance product is men-ü Shave Crème. A 100ml bottle can provide up to 165 shaves which is the equivalent of approximately three 200ml aerosol gels. By applying the crème by hand, it will become clear if there’s any leftover hair. Always use a high-quality shaving product with a good razor and remember it’s only what comes 82
