Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - May/June 2020 (Issue 25)

HENDRA BARNS, NEWQUAY, CORNWALL Set in three acres in a secluded valley surrounded by woods and farmland, this property is a collection of three renovated stone barns offering exclusive-use weddings and accommodation sleeping up to 20 guests. They also offer holidays and breaks away, the ideal choice for a minimoon for newlyweds after the ceremony. Each fully equipped barn has been lovingly restored and decorated to a very high standard by owners Ken and Maggie, providing a blank canvas for couples to create their dream celebration. On the day, this family-run venue offers wedding coordination to ensure everything runs smoothly. Hendra Barn, sleeping ten guests, boasts a beautiful conservatory offering panoramic views across the valley to open farmland. The Coach House sleeps six people, and Little Hendra can accommodate up to four. Ceremonies take place inside and out. The Lakeside conservatory is licensed for up to 60 guests and offers the perfect alternative to an outdoor ceremony with its abundance of natural daylight and exceptional views. Those wanting to get married outside can do so in the hand-crafted oak arbour that’s nestled by the side of the lake offering magnificent views stretching for miles. The structure itself is licensed for up to twenty loved ones and there’s plenty of space for guests to sit just outside and around it, or inside in the nearby wedding marquee. The terraced lawns rolling down to the area, that includes a picture-perfect lake, provide wonderful photo opportunities and the large flat lawn is the ideal location for erecting a marquee, tipi, yurt or dome for the reception for up to 160 guests. Electricity and water are provided along with the use of the bar and toilets. Receptions can also take place in the purpose-built function room with its vaulted glass ceiling and exposed oak beams. Trifold doors open on to the terrace and beyond that to the gardens. Hand-made tables and chairs are provided along with a bar, three toilets and a fully fitted kitchen for wedding caterers to use. The venue is licensed for live music, a DJ and the sale of alcohol until midnight. Up to seventy guests can be seated in this room, and there’s sufficient space for a further twenty evening guests. Should even more space be required, an add-on marquee can be hired that fits on to the front of the building, seating up to 100 guests with an additional 20 evening ones. The grounds provide the perfect space for guests to mingle and enjoy garden games. Hay bales are provided as seating during the evening when guests can enjoy toasting marshmallows over the firepit and watching a finale of fireworks. Ceremony licence?
