CAKES 55 ALL ABOUT YOU How can we make sure our cake is a refection of our personalities? Nicola says: “It’s so important that your cake reflects both you as a couple and the rest of your wedding, this way it can become a real centrepiece tying together the various elements of your day. For this reason, I invite my couples to join me for a design and tasting consultation, where we try lots of delicious cake and choose their favourite flavours. We also spend time talking through all aspects of the big day. We can then ensure that the cake is the perfect fit, perhaps by incorporating sugar flowers to match the bouquets or buttonholes, by introducing a personalised monogram or even by including a beloved fur baby as a little detail at the back of the bake!” Meg says: “One of the most important aspects of designing a cake for a special occasion is to capture the essence of the people who’ll enjoy it. A cake is not just a dessert, but a symbol of celebration, gratitude, and love. To make sure yours is a reflection of your personalities, we need to consider your preferences, hobbies, passions, and values. We can use colours, shapes, flavours, and decorations that match your style and taste. We can also incorporate elements that represent your interests, achievements, or dreams. This way you can have something that’s not only delicious, but meaningful and memorable too.” Grace Marshall from We All Love Cake (www.wealllovecake.co.uk) says: “We offer a free personal consultation where you get to try the four different flavours of sponge of your choosing, with either tea, coffee or Champagne. This is where we can have a deeper discussion about your perfect big-day bake, the themes of your wedding, colour palette, decorations and more. I recommend taking advantage of this service with your cake designer as it’s a great way for you to gain the confidence in whoever you’ve chosen to help build your perfect day, as well as for us to get a feel for your personalities, likes and dislikes, which will all be used to help create your dream cake.” LISTEN TO RAISIN Do I have to have a traditional fruit cake? What are the alternatives? Clare says: “For many years it’s been tradition to have fruit cake but, don’t worry, this isn’t so much the case these days. Couples are becoming more modern, more daring with their flavours. People often say that the base tier has to be fruit, which is a myth. You can have it if you fancy it, but you don’t have to. The myth does come from a good place though as fruit cake can be delicious. However, it’s rare that couples request it these days as most opt for one of the many yummy sponge alternatives that we have on our menu. “What’s most important when it comes to your wedding cake is choosing your flavours. Why not go for a delicious lemon drizzle, triple chocolate or salted caramel? Or perhaps you’d prefer something even more indulgent like chocolate orange, pink Champagne or, our personal favourite, white chocolate and raspberry.” Elizabeth Harris from Liverpool’s Elizabeth Harris Wedding Cakes (www.elizabeth-harris.co.uk) says: “While fruit cake used to be the traditional choice, it’s not as popular now. There are countless flavours available with the option to pick a different one for each tier. I offer around 16 different choices. But if you have loved ones who still prefer fruit cake, you might consider having it as the top tier to serve to those particular guests or to keep as a nod to tradition.” Boutique Bakery © https://lauramayphotography.co.uk Cake Creations Southport Elizabeth Harris Wedding Cakes Cake On The Lake
