It dawned on me just recently that I have just six months left until I transform from editor into bridesmaid extraordinaire! Is anyone else freaked out by how quickly time passes en route to W-day? Despite spending my days telling all of you lovely people how to plan, I have very much not practised what I’ve preached and am now panicking about getting into shape. So, it’s a good job indeed that I’m not the bride, who fortunately is literally the most organised person I’ve ever met. That being said, the bride tribe (plus groom) recently decided to hit a wedding show at the venue hosted by our sister company County Wedding Events, looking for finishing touches and bridesmaid dresses. While I’ve attended many a wedding fair in my time with my professional hat on, nothing beats the excitement of experiencing one from the other side of the fence. So, to help you get the most out of your next visit to a wedding fair, I’ve compiled my top three tips. 1. Pre-register. Make sure you sign up on the organisers website. CWE is offering timed entry slots at the moment to keep you all safe and allow you to enjoy your browsing comfortably. 2. Be prepared. Find out who’s exhibiting beforehand and make up a hit list of the suppliers you want to check out. You can usually find this info on the event’s website, but if not there’ll likely be show guide available, so grab one when you arrive and settle down with a cuppa or glass of bubbly before you venture any further. 3. Snap happy. Make sure your smart phone is fully charged and be ready to get as many pics as you can of the things you love. Big events can be a little daunting and the last thing you want is to get home and forget where you saw that incredible cake. And now, without further ado, I bring you the latest issue of Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding. Check out these pages for my issue highlights to ensure you don’t miss a thing – we have a world of wedspiration waiting for you as always. Enjoy and keeeep planning! RELAX AND UNWIND Somerset recently saw the launch of Transformations, a new luxury day spa, based in the idyllic Dillington Estate on the outskirts of Illminster. Making the most of the Covid lockdown break for the beauty industry, owner Kerry Hole-Stuart relocated and rebranded from her previous location in Illminster town, launching the luxurious Transformations and opening its doors to those seeking hair, beauty and aesthetics treatments. Kerry’s goal from the outset of owning her own salon was to provide her clients with a relaxing environment perfectly suited to pure indulgence. Utilising the new location she was able to take this to the next level with the new day spa – somewhere her clients can receive superior treatments and top to toe relaxation for both men and women alike. The boutique day spa has capacity to host up to six guests at one time, meaning it’s the ideal place for celebratory gettogethers, while the boutique style means it’ll never get too overwhelming if you’re in need of some pre-wedding R&R and would rather fly solo. Find out more at www.transformations.org.uk EDITOR’S SPOTLIGHT We know there’ll be a lot of you out there, newly engaged over the Christmas period, wondering where to start. A question we often get asked is: what happens once the venue is booked – how do we sort out the legal bit? We turned to the Somerset Registration Service’s marketing officer, Amber Packer-Hughes, for advice. Amber says, “The most important next step is to book your registrar. We take bookings up to two years ahead here in Somerset, though other districts vary. Do be flexible about the exact ceremony time, in case registrars already have a lot of bookings in their diary. We’ll always do our best to fit your plans and normally have space, but there are only so many 2pm slots we can offer! “The other legal step is booking your Notice of Marriage appointment. It needs to happen at least 28 days in advance, but we recommend around three to six months before the big day. This is a face-to-face meeting you both need to attend in the district where you live, even if you’re marrying elsewhere. Once completed, you have up to a year to marry at your chosen venue. This is a handy flexibility in case disaster strikes and you need to postpone (we’re looking at you Covid!). If you change venue you’ll need to give notice again, so make sure your plans are firm first. The registrars will bring your paperwork on the day, so that’s one less thing to add to your to-do list.” For further information head over to www.somersetweddingservice.org.uk NEW VENUE ALERT! You have the choice of two wedding packages or the chance to completely create your own bespoke version. The owners are working with The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, offering use of the venue free of charge to terminally ill brides and grooms and are keen to keep it local, so are looking to partner with the cream of West Country suppliers. sophistication Jenny and Jason’s stylish city wedding was styled in a palette of blush, green and gold Images courtesy of Becky Weir Photography MODERN 26

According to Jason, it was love at first sight when he met Jenny online. The pair went for a meal together in Weston-super-Mare and Jenny soon fell for Jason’s sense of humour, “He makes me laugh every day,” she tells us. When a friend got ill and couldn’t go to see the Stereophonics with Jenny, Jason stepped in. The couple stayed in a hotel that night and on the way back to Bristol stopped at Porthcawl. As they walked on the beach, Jason paused to write, “will you marry me?” in the sand. It was a total surprise for Jenny, but of course she said “yes.” The Square Club in Berkley Square, Clifton, was the first wedding venue the two visited and quickly knew it was the one, booking it straight away. “We loved the intimacy of it, as well as its cocktail-bar style, which suited us really well,” Jenny explains. Read on as the bride gives us the lowdown on their big day, 10th July 2021... SETTING THE SCENE Jenny and Jason’s venue styling centred around a supermodern palette of blush pink, ivory, green and gold. Centrepieces featured gold candelabras, foliage and small gold vases filled with flowers. There wasn’t a formal table plan as such, since the guest list was halved to 30 due to Covid restrictions, so everyone was encouraged to mix and mingle. They were each given a tequila glass as wedding favours, engraved with the newlyweds’ names and wedding date. All assembled were asked to drink a shot from it, which no doubt helped to create a lively atmosphere. The couple also treated their loved ones to some chocolates and wax melts to take home. The Square Club served a three course meal for the wedding breakfast, followed by a barbecue later in the evening. The semi-naked two-tier cake was part lemon drizzle and part Victoria sponge, decorated with gold ribbon and fresh flowers. We love Dilly the Morris Minor who drove Jenny and Jason across Clifton Suspension bridge and back as they sat on the parcel shelf! “Honking the cute horn as we drove was definitely one of the stand-out moments,” Jenny remembers. “Jason hates being the centre of attention, but he loved all the cheers as we rode around in Dilly. I found it especially poignant as it brought smiles to people’s faces at a difficult time just after the second lockdown,” she continues. Once the festivities drew to a close bang on the Covid curfew at 10pm, the newlyweds were persuaded to head to Browns Bar, where they were met with a standing ovation and a chorus of Cliff Richard’s Eurovision hit, Congratulations, from the patrons.
