Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 78)

MAKING THE CUT What menswear trends should we look out for to make sure we’re looking suave? The big trend we noticed on the runways was checks. They are the way to go if you’re not afraid to make a statement, with a huge array of colours, scales and textures to choose from. Our advice is to keep it tonal and tailor-fitted – this avoids you being drowned by an excess of detailed fabric. If a full check suit is too bold for your taste, consider a contrasting check waistcoat to complement your block-coloured suit. Once you have your suit sorted, the next step is to think about your neckwear. We love the increasingly popular floral-patterned tie or bow tie. This has been a welcome addition to the menswear industry, pushing the rules set by previous generations. Our guidance would be to avoid mixing too many bold and bright patterns – unless you choose an eclectic look. Not many people like being in front of the camera initially, but an engagement shoot is a great way to practice and capture some of that pre-wedding excitement. Many people say to me that they think engagement shoots are a bit cheesy – and I’ll admit I thought the same before I did them! You can capture some incredible shots that look like they’re from a romantic film – all without feeling awkward. I provide my couples with a rough plan of the shoot, and reassure them that we can stop and get a drink (or ice cream!) at any point. I have some incredible zoom lenses that allow me to get natural shots from a distance, so you don’t feel like you’re on a photo shoot. It’s the same unobtrusive way I shoot my weddings. I don’t heavily direct the shoots; if you’re a cuddly couple, then go for it! If you’re not, and you fancy some less adventurous poses, then I can create some low-key shots to suit you. All my couples are different, so my pre-wedding shoots are too. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to work with your photographer before the big day; essentially a trial run to help you get the best images. You’ll also have a collection of wonderful memories to look back on over the years.
