Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 78)

REAL WEDDINGS 29 W e just adore this wedding, so we had to find out more about the couple behind it. Neil and Matt got together during their early twenties in 2003, but they didn’t get engaged until 2018. “Despite the constant hints, Matt’s proposal was a complete surprise!” Neil laughs. “We were spending Christmas and New Year on an amazing holiday in Japan; it was in the Japanese Alps on Christmas Day that Matt popped the question.” But it wasn’t a traditional proposal, Matt had designed an augmented reality card, which came to life when Neil held his phone over it. “The song Only You by The Flying Pickets started playing,” Neil remembers. “An animation commenced and it concluded with the question. There were tears and laughter – it was truly romantic.” Back home, the duo got to work planning their dream wedding, setting the date for 16 th November, 2019, at the beautiful Berwick Lodge. We caught up with Neil to find out more… PUTTING THEIR STAMP ON Neil and Matt wanted a venue that would work with them on creating their unique vision for their day; a wedding that was totally personalised to them. “We also wanted great food, a warm atmosphere and above all, fantastic service,” Neil explains. “Berwick Lodge fulfilled that brief and so much more. Simone and the team worked with us to create a bespoke day. No detail was overlooked.” They opted for a stylish yellow, navy and grey palette, which ran throughout the styling, including their beautiful floral arrangements. “Roberta at Sherbert Bloom completely surpassed our expectations,” Neil says. “She got the exact right mix of colour, texture and style.” The cake was a real showstopper from Zaza Marcelle. A cool, contemporary vibe was created with the use of midnight blue. “Each tier was a different flavour, and it was simply delicious,” Neil says. To finish the styling off, an abundance of flickering candles filled the space to create the perfect welcoming ambience. The men looked dashing in bespoke suits, Matt in blue and Neil in light grey, made for them by Clifton Suits. 
