Q&A Our local pros solve your problems GET THE LOOK I have similar colouring to the model in your Local Love shoot last issue. How can I recreate the beauty look? For the timeless chignon, firstly prep the hair with heated curlers to give root lift, while using a volumising cloud mist gives a little more texture and hold. Back comb the back and crown before smoothing into a bun at the nape. The model’s remaining hair was kept in its original parting and swept around the sides to cover the chignon. Her hair was so long, we had enough to put two small kiss curls on one side. Finally, it was fixed with a firm-hold hairspray. Skin should always be prepped before starting the hair using a moisturiser (SPF-free to avoid flashback from the camera) and lip balm. You’re then ready for a cream foundation and concealer under the eyes, around the edges of the nose and to cover any blemishes. The eyeshadow we chose here was a soft bronze-taupe colour, to make her green eyes pop. We used a medium-brown powder for the brows and a black gel liner on the top lash line and half way across the bottom to open the eyes. Whispy false lashes were applied for added drama. A subtle peach blush and a touch of highlighter enhanced the cheekbones, and the look was completed with a translucent powder and classic pink lip. I particularly like Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk lip shade. Kimberley Williams Bridal Hair and Make Up By Kimberley www.bridalhairbykimberley.co.uk COOL TO BE KIND We’re trying to be as eco-friendly as possible for our wedding – but I’m a bit stuck when it comes to my make-up. What should I be looking for? At our salon, we believe in beauty wrapped in kindness. All our products are aligned with the ethos of being vegan, organic and natural. For make-up, we use Zao. It’s an innovative, 100%-natural range, which is infused with bamboo minerals. The products are beautiful, from the packaging to the process and the final look, and it’s all refillable and recyclable. Depending on the theme of your wedding and your desired style, you can create a range of ethically luxurious looks from au naturel to smoky and sexy. After 15 years in the industry, I recommend the ethical Zao range and use it with my brides to create looks that last all day while letting your skin breathe and restore. Lizzie Salter | The Kind Living Salon | https://thekindliving.co.uk Fashion and beauty Seal the deal I find my make-up smudges during the day. How do I make sure it stays in place on my wedding day? Here are my top tips to keeping your beauty look flawless all day… ❤ Skincare prep is key. A regular routine and exfoliating twice a week will give a smooth finish. Poorly hydrated skin draws moisture from your foundation, leaving you with uneven patches of pigment. ❤ A quality primer blends out imperfections and creases, making make-up last longer. Choose oil-free or water-based to prevent slipping and always prime your eyelids. ❤ Use lightweight powders to match your liquid foundation. Build both up in thin layers and choose a cream blusher. Stipple products on to your face using a buffing brush. This technique locks products to the skin. Use a setting spray to finish. ❤ Dip your eyeshadow brush in priming spray before applying product – especially with shimmery eyeshadow. This holds down the pigment and gives a natural, glossy effect. Opt for waterproof mascara and eyeliner; I recommend Stila eyeliners. ❤ For lips, use a translucent powder before your liner. Then, apply lipstick with a brush. Blot and repeat this several times. A touch of gloss in the centre of your lips will power up the look. ❤ Pat translucent powder into oily areas during the day.
