Q&A Beauty Our experts answer your questions FESTIVE GLAM Please can you give me some fun ideas for my Xmas-themed wedding make-up and lashes? Meet the expert: Nicolette Smith is the face of The Beauty Coach based in Buckinghamshire. She’s a qualified beautician and nail technician offering a variety of skincare and make-up services. Nicolette says: Firstly, it’s important to determine your make-up style. Do you love bold lipstick, or do you prefer the natural make-up look? There are so many ways to approach the Christmas theme and it depends on the style of dress and the setting. You could opt for the Snow White look using a quality foundation for flawless skin, creating the backdrop for dramatic red lipstick, minimal eye make-up, white highlighter in the inner corners of each eye and long sultry tapered lashes with a hint of rose blusher on your cheeks. Or, you can play around with this look by using grey, silver and white eyeshadow, or even subtle shades of blue. Add some sparkle either on your lashes – you can buy false lashes with gems – or dab silver or gold eyeshadow in the centre or inner corners or your eyelids to highlight them. There are even gold and silver mascaras and eyeliners available to add some extra sparkle. Your winter bridal look can also be understated and natural. Enjoy the focus on your eyes by keeping your lip colour and cheeks very natural with a hint of pink, and using complementary shades on your eyes to bring out the colour of them. A good quality liner and lashes help frame them. You could add very natural sheer-looking false lashes that elongate and accentuate your natural ones. Meet the expert: Laura Carroll is a Buckinghamshire-based make- up artist specialising in weddings, events and commercial work. Laura says: Make-up for this season is all about achieving glowing skin after the long cold winter months. When preparing your skin ahead of your wedding, ensure to add in some extra treatments to give it a boost, especially after the lack of Vitamin D. Serums, masks and hydrating facials suited to your skin type are perfect for this and the most popular colours used at this time of year are warm pinks, mauve, soft browns and pops of creamy champagne shades. A popular product is the Pillow Talk Luxury Palette by Charlotte Tilbury. If your skin is dry, look for cream-based products. Glowing foundations work well along with cream or liquid blushers. I love Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks by Bobbi Brown that can be applied using your finger. It melts into the skin, adding luminosity but also a natural flush of colour. The ideal lash treatment is the Triple Enhance Lash Serum by Nouveau Lashes. Your natural ones are lifted and tinted, opening the eyes making them pop. The treatment lasts up to six weeks, perfect if your honeymoon is soon after the wedding. Micro weddings, in particular, do not require make-up to be heavy because the day is very intimate so it’s the details of the make-up that have the most impact. 85 EXPERT ADVICE
