Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding - October/November 2020 (Issue 85)

Wasing Park is a barn wedding venue set in the grounds of the Wasing Estate fusing country with contemporary. It’s home to a collection of historical buildings including the Castle Barn and a Victorian summerhouse. This structure located in the Terrace Garden is licensed for ceremonies and indoor nuptials take place in the Garden Room with its white walls and wooden floors. Those wanting a religious ceremony can do so in the picturesque parish St Nicholas Church that sits within the grounds. Wasing Estate has undergone some recent improvements in readiness to welcome back weddings. The exterior paintwork of the venue and the church tower has been refreshed, and the talented team of gardeners have been busy trimming the trees near to the church to reveal more of its beautiful exterior. Landscaping many of the 4,000 acres has been high on the agenda and a new garden is in the process of being built outside the Castle Barn. Other improvements include a stunning mural in The Stables bar created by artist Frederick Wimsett. The bespoke artistic design incorporates wild butterflies, hedgehogs, a pheasant and egrets flying over the lake that all represent the past, present and future of the estate. The Walled Garden and St Nicholas Church are also beautifully depicted. ❤ We love... that couples and their guests can feast on food over a firepit outside on the terrace. This Jacobean-style Grade II listed quintessentially English mansion house was built in 1864 and is packed full of history and charm. It’s set in 60 acres of pretty woodland, parkland and manicured gardens that create the perfect backdrop for big-day photos. The newly refurbished reception area leads through to the Terrace Ceremony Room and the Downshire Ballroom, both stylish options for a wedding. The main grand staircase set against a feature stained-glass window provides a stunning backdrop for wedding portraits. Ceremonies take place in the newly refurbished Terrace Ceremony Room for up to 110 guests that overlooks the gardens and is decorated with glittering chandeliers and a feature fireplace, or in the elegant Orangery. Al fresco ceremonies take place under the Wedding Pavilion that seats up to 110 guests just outside on the lawn. This is a romantic spot draped with twinkling fairylights that light the structure at night. The Downshire Ballroom can host up to 110 guests for the wedding breakfast, and up to 200 loved ones for the evening reception. It boasts tall ceilings, large windows allowing for plenty of natural light, and chandeliers. The room is then transformed for the evening reception complete with a dancefloor.
