This charming Palladian-style mansion house is part of Marriott’s The Luxury Collection set within 150 acres of manicured grounds designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown with far-flung views stretching across Langley Park. SUITE DREAMS My home-from-home for the night was a terrace twin room with a courtyard-style garden in the Grade II listed Brew House, perched opposite the main building. This hideout boasts 21 of the 41 stylish rooms and suites that comprise this stunning hotel, marrying modern touches with timeless, regal furnishings. Steeped in history, each suite is named after a prominent figure in the hotel’s history. Highlights for newlyweds inside the mansion house include the three-bedroom Duke of Marlborough Suite featuring an Athenian marble bathroom. Other suites boast ornate fireplaces, original artwork, roll-top bathtubs and king-size beds – some of the most comfortable in Buckinghamshire! A FOODIE HEAVEN At the heart of this enchanting hotel is the glamorous Cedar at The Langley, a restaurant named after the English Heritagelisted Lebanon Cedar tree that stands proudly at the front of the building. With large windows overlooking the beautiful grounds and terrace (that’s open during the warmer months), diners can enjoy a delicious breakfast here - the mouth-watering blueberry pancakes and waffles served with fresh berries and toffee caramel are both a must-try! Lunch and dinner are other tasty options, while the popular afternoon tea is served in the Drawing Room. The dinner menu features well-presented dishes inspired by European cuisine, created using the freshest local ingredients. I tucked into the carrot hummus served with roast roots, feta cheese and garlic to start, followed by the panfried halibut served with sautéed Swiss chard, garlic, chilli, pine nuts and saffron fish broth. It was hard to choose, with other highlights on the menu including pan-fried veal and slow-cooked beef cheek Wellington. Dinner wouldn’t be complete without dessert, and the four-piece cheese selection isn’t to be missed, nor is a visit to the Churchill Bar for an after-dinner tipple! RELAX AND REJUVENATE The wellness journey starts the moment you enter The Langley Spa, one of Europe’s largest within a hotel. This relaxing water retreat boasts a heated indoor pool with comfortable loungers (in addition to the seasonal heated outdoor pool) and a vitality pool with jets designed to massage. There’s also a Himalayan salt sauna, a salt-infused steam room, a Hammam plus experience showers and an ice fountain and this design-led spa is home to a female-only thermal area. Fitness lovers can enjoy the gym or a game of tennis, or book holistic classes in the wellness studio, including yoga and tai chi. Spa-goers are invited to experience the extensive treatment menu which includes facials, body treatments and bespoke massages. I enjoyed the 60-minute Pure Indulgence with experienced therapist, Revekka, using La Sultane de Saba’s Argan facial range and green tea and ginger body products. Another outstanding treatment is The Langley Shea Massage - couples who wish to indulge together can do so in the double treatment suite. MADE FOR ROMANCE The Langley provides a grand fairytale-inspired backdrop for a ceremony and wedding breakfast for up to 100 guests gathered in The Winter Garden – former Love Island star Dani Dyer recently married footballer Jarrod Bowen here. The expert wedding team are a fantastic asset, experienced at hosting the party of a lifetime, and exclusive use of the hotel is encouraged (including all bedrooms and suites). More intimate spaces available include the Lake Room for up to 20 guests and the Boot Room for up to 40 loved ones. Wedding guests can enjoy outdoor games including croquet on the lawn, chess and Jenga and new for this year is a stretch tent along with a children’s area. Book it: Room rates at The Langley vary depending on the category, location and season and are subject to availability, ranging from £450 per night to £1,300. Weddings at The Langley start from £200 per person. www.marriott.com/en-gb/hotels/ loniv-the-langley-a-luxury-collectionhotel-buckinghamshire/overview www.instagram.com/thelangleyuk www.facebook.com/TheLangleyUK A warm welcome Editor Claire Ridley was invited to discover the delights of The Langley, a luxurious five-star hotel and award-winning spa nestled in the Buckinghamshire countryside matthewshaw.co.uk 24
