crazybearhotels YOU’VE FOUND IT AT IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT, THE CRAZY BEAR Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate affair or a grand celebration, we promise a truly decadent celebration. From start to finish.

How happy does real wedding couple Hester and Michael look here on their wedding day at Oxfordshire’s Ardington House? Read about their celebration on page 33. This is always one of my favourite issues of the year to put together. I adore the late-summer season and everything that comes with it, from early Sunday morning yoga sessions on the beach near me to enjoying the long balmy evenings catching up with loved ones at the many al fresco restaurants close by. For those of you putting the finishing touches to an end-of-summer or early autumn celebration, take inspiration from the local real-life wedding couples in this issue. Hester and Michael chose the beautiful Oxfordshire-based Ardington House, a Georgian stately home, as the spectacular backdrop for their nuptials – turn to page 33 to read their love story. Oxford features again, this time in the styled shoot on page 45 set within the beautiful Old Parsonage Hotel decorated with rich florals and timeless décor - a talented team of regional suppliers collaborated on this romantic look. If beautiful Buckinghamshire is your chosen place to get married then turn to page 24 for my review of The Langley, a luxurious fivestar hotel, spa and wedding venue in Iver where television personality Dani Dyer recently tied the knot with footballer Jarrod Bowen. There’s also all the latest wedding news, red-carpet-worthy fashion, beauty tips and tricks and hot honeymoon destinations that make me want to book a plane ticket now! Until the next issue... THE COMPLEAT ANGLER RECOGNISED IN TRIPADVISOR’S TRAVELLERS CHOICE AWARDS The Compleat Angler in Marlow, part of the Macdonald Hotels & Resorts group, has been recognised in Tripadvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards 2025 following consistently high ratings from guests. Tripadvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards are based on genuine feedback from guests who have visited and left an authentic, first-hand review on Tripadvisor over 12 months. Reviews praised The Compleat Angler for its picturesque views, beautiful gardens, attentive service, fine food and warm, welcoming atmosphere. The four-star, 64-bedroom hotel has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Established as a small guesthouse known as the Riverside Inn, The Compleat Angler gained its present-day title from Izaak Walton’s famous angling book of the same name which was written about fishing in and around Marlow in 1653. Located on the banks of the River Thames in an idyllic, tranquil setting, The Compleat Angler is just a 20-minute drive from Heathrow Airport and provides easy access to central London. Guests can dine on classic British dishes in the hotel’s signature Riverside restaurant, or opt for a reservation in Sindhu by Atul Kochhar, serving modern Indian cuisine. Al fresco dining and afternoon tea are also available on the hotel’s spacious lawn overlooking the river. Macdonald Hotels & Resorts is one of the UK’s most successful independent hospitality groups with a portfolio of more than 30 upmarket hotels, spas and golf resorts throughout the UK, from Aviemore in north-east Scotland to the New Forest on the south coast of England. Andrew Boe, general manager at The Compleat Angler, said: “As the world’s largest travel guidance platform, Tripadvisor has unparalleled authority with travellers and diners. As such, it’s a privilege to be recognised by Tripadvisor in this manner, based on reviews and ratings collected throughout the year. This award is a testament to the care and quality which we live by here at The Compleat Angler, and we look forward to welcoming more guests through our doors this summer to showcase the service which makes our hotel so special.” macdonaldhotels.co.uk/compleat-angler PHOTO STARS UNVEILS SPECIAL OFFER Photo Stars Luxury Booth offers photo booth hire in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire using fabulous, retro-inspired wooden photo booths, premium props and a variety of stunning backdrops. Wasing Park, the nationally renowned luxury wedding venue nestled in the Berkshire countryside, is delighted to announce its September showcase, Forever, taking place on Sunday, 28th and Monday, 29th September 2025. Widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest wedding venues, Wasing Park will shine a spotlight on sustainability at the event. From florals to sustainably sourced wedding décor, couples getting married will discover how to create a beautiful celebration that’s kind to the planet. The Grade II listed Castle Barn will be exquisitely styled by talented florists, showcasing arrangements of seasonal English flowers freshly cut from the Walled Garden. Charming potted succulents will also be on display, offering ideas for an elegant, natural touch to table décor. While the team at Wasing Park composts its floral arrangements, these potted keepsakes provide a lasting gift for guests to take home. New for this season are thoughtful favours, including charming mini bottles of Wasing Gin infused with botanicals gathered from the Walled Garden and hedgerows. For a sweeter touch, there are pots of Wasing Wild Flower Honey and also decorative candles, both lovingly crafted from honey and wax carefully harvested from hives on the estate. Among the exciting new offerings, couples are invited to explore the newly renovated Garden Room. Brimming with character, this enchanting area, offering three stunning ceremony spaces, is now beautifully adorned with rustic oak beams, warm, aged brickwork, sandstone floors, pewter cast-iron radiators, and stunning sliding barn doors. Set within the tranquil gardens, its bi-fold glass doors flood the space with natural light and provide stunning views of the Castle Barn. Heated by a biomass boiler fuelled by wood chips from the estate, the Garden Room boasts eco-conscious design and effortlessly accommodates up to 160 guests. The Victorian Summerhouse is an idyllic outdoor spot nestled amidst nature, highlighted by an intricate hand-painted mural, hosting up to 160 guests. The 13th-century Parish Church of St Nicholas is charming with beautiful stained-glass windows and a sunlit altar, providing a timeless backdrop for traditional ceremonies of up to 100 guests. At the heart of Wasing Park sits the magnificent Castle Barn, offering a blank canvas for a personalised celebration. Inside, there’s a built-in stage and quality acoustics while outside, a flowing stretch tent covers the terrace and outdoor kitchen that allows for year-round al fresco dining where chefs prepare dishes over the firepit and wood-fired oven. Couples can enjoy the finest locally sourced cuisine with Wasing’s estate-to-plate menu, featuring new nose-to-tail offerings made with beef sourced from the organic on-site farm. The venue caters for up to 160 guests for dining, with evening parties welcoming up to 250 loved ones. The festivities can be continued in the Stables Lodge, a decadent bar offering a cosy setting for a nightcap. This charming Palladian-style mansion house is part of Marriott’s The Luxury Collection set within 150 acres of manicured grounds designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown with far-flung views stretching across Langley Park. SUITE DREAMS My home-from-home for the night was a terrace twin room with a courtyard-style garden in the Grade II listed Brew House, perched opposite the main building. This hideout boasts 21 of the 41 stylish rooms and suites that comprise this stunning hotel, marrying modern touches with timeless, regal furnishings. Steeped in history, each suite is named after a prominent figure in the hotel’s history. Highlights for newlyweds inside the mansion house include the three-bedroom Duke of Marlborough Suite featuring an Athenian marble bathroom. Other suites boast ornate fireplaces, original artwork, roll-top bathtubs and king-size beds – some of the most comfortable in Buckinghamshire! A FOODIE HEAVEN At the heart of this enchanting hotel is the glamorous Cedar at The Langley, a restaurant named after the English Heritagelisted Lebanon Cedar tree that stands proudly at the front of the building. With large windows overlooking the beautiful grounds and terrace (that’s open during the warmer months), diners can enjoy a delicious breakfast here - the mouth-watering blueberry pancakes and waffles served with fresh berries and toffee caramel are both a must-try! Lunch and dinner are other tasty options, while the popular afternoon tea is served in the Drawing Room. The dinner menu features well-presented dishes inspired by European cuisine, created using the freshest local ingredients. I tucked into the carrot hummus served with roast roots, feta cheese and garlic to start, followed by the panfried halibut served with sautéed Swiss chard, garlic, chilli, pine nuts and saffron fish broth. It was hard to choose, with other highlights on the menu including pan-fried veal and slow-cooked beef cheek Wellington. Dinner wouldn’t be complete without dessert, and the four-piece cheese selection isn’t to be missed, nor is a visit to the Churchill Bar for an after-dinner tipple! RELAX AND REJUVENATE The wellness journey starts the moment you enter The Langley Spa, one of Europe’s largest within a hotel. This relaxing water retreat boasts a heated indoor pool with comfortable loungers (in addition to the seasonal heated outdoor pool) and a vitality pool with jets designed to massage. There’s also a Himalayan salt sauna, a salt-infused steam room, a Hammam plus experience showers and an ice fountain and this design-led spa is home to a female-only thermal area. Fitness lovers can enjoy the gym or a game of tennis, or book holistic classes in the wellness studio, including yoga and tai chi. Spa-goers are invited to experience the extensive treatment menu which includes facials, body treatments and bespoke massages. I enjoyed the 60-minute Pure Indulgence with experienced therapist, Revekka, using La Sultane de Saba’s Argan facial range and green tea and ginger body products. Another outstanding treatment is The Langley Shea Massage - couples who wish to indulge together can do so in the double treatment suite. MADE FOR ROMANCE The Langley provides a grand fairytale-inspired backdrop for a ceremony and wedding breakfast for up to 100 guests gathered in The Winter Garden – former Love Island star Dani Dyer recently married footballer Jarrod Bowen here. The expert wedding team are a fantastic asset, experienced at hosting the party of a lifetime, and exclusive use of the hotel is encouraged (including all bedrooms and suites). More intimate spaces available include the Lake Room for up to 20 guests and the Boot Room for up to 40 loved ones. Wedding guests can enjoy outdoor games including croquet on the lawn, chess and Jenga and new for this year is a stretch tent along with a children’s area. Book it: Room rates at The Langley vary depending on the category, location and season and are subject to availability, ranging from £450 per night to £1,300. Weddings at The Langley start from £200 per person. www.marriott.com/en-gb/hotels/ loniv-the-langley-a-luxury-collectionhotel-buckinghamshire/overview www.instagram.com/thelangleyuk www.facebook.com/TheLangleyUK A warm welcome Editor Claire Ridley was invited to discover the delights of The Langley, a luxurious five-star hotel and award-winning spa nestled in the Buckinghamshire countryside matthewshaw.co.uk 24

Harriet and Joe married at Berkshire’s Easthampstead Park, which was decorated with neutral colours and a timeless wedding theme Images courtesy of Shaun Peters Weddings Harriet and Joe Gray married on the 7th of June 2025 at Easthampstead Park in Wokingham, Berkshire. A classic affair 26

Harriet and Joe met at work and quickly fell in love. “We became engaged on the 18th of April 2024 at Easthampstead Park, where Joe had booked us a break away following a busy time renovating our home,” Harriet explains. “Little did we know that this would be our wedding venue the following year. We had decided to take a stroll around the grounds, where Joe found a quiet spot under a beautiful oak tree to ask me to marry him. It was perfect – and moments before, a small deer had appeared and leapt across our path towards the woodland, creating a special moment.” The couple enjoyed a meal at The Waterside Inn in Bray to celebrate, and Joe arranged for a bouquet to greet them on arrival. “We experienced a delicious tasting menu and were personally congratulated by chef patron Alain Roux on our engagement,” Harriet says. SETTING THE SCENE Harriet and Joe decided to get married at Easthampstead Park, where they got engaged. “The venue is a stunning converted Grade II listed Victorian mansion with a wide selection of picturesque areas to get married and plenty of rooms for our guests travelling from Kent, Essex, and even Australia,” they tell us. “All aspects of the hotel were right for us, from the long driveway approaching the mansion to the grand staircase and stained-glass windows. The grounds are stunning, boasting manicured lawns, seasonal flowers and plants. We wanted our wedding to complement the venue with its natural beauty, so we opted for a classic theme styled with a neutral colour palette and delicate textures enhanced with natural floral displays.” The couple worked with incredible suppliers who brought their vision to life. “Our florist, Sarah Hanson at Olivia Brooke Floral Design, has vast amounts of experience both as a florist and working as a preferred supplier at Easthampstead Park,” Harriet says. “We trusted her expertise and left her to be creative. The floral displays complemented the bespoke bouquets and buttonholes perfectly. Our guests were blown away by the beautiful designs, which left an incredible scent throughout the venue.” ON THE MENU Harriet and Joe were invited to enjoy a food and drink tasting at the venue before selecting their final menu choices. “We spoke to the chef, who tailored our menu to cater for those with allergies, intolerances, and preferences on an individual basis,” they explain. “The venue offers an online event planner that makes this process quick, easy, and efficient. We decided on a classic three-course wedding breakfast along with canapés served during the drinks reception.” The couple’s wedding cake was a five-tier, fully iced design 27 REAL WEDDINGS

decorated with delicate flowers and white satin ribbons. “Each tier was a different flavour, including lemon, chocolate, vanilla, cherry Bakewell sponges and fruitcake,” Harriet tells us. “The finishing touch was some fresh flowers matching our floral displays, and we had an additional cake in the kitchen in case we ran out!” LOOKING THE PART Harriet wore the dress called Estelle by Justin Alexander, which was a Mikado A-line style featuring an asymmetric pleated bodice, buttoned chapel-length train and a bow. “My seamstress, Kirsty Oriel, customised it so it was perfect!” she tells us. “My hair and make-up artist Sophie Mills created a romantic and timeless bridal look, which complemented my dress, and I couldn’t have been happier.” Harriet knew that her wedding dress was the one because she couldn’t stop thinking about it after seeing it for the first time. “I tried on several styles in two bridal boutiques, but I knew this was the one for me,” she tells us. “When I tried on the veil with the dress, the emotion told me I had found my dream wedding gown. I kept the dress shopping experience just for my mum and myself initially, which was special for us both, and then I invited my bridesmaids to see it once my dress had been made and had arrived in the shop.” Joe wore a tailored black dinner suit with a double-breasted, low-cut waistcoat. “It’s something that Joe has always wanted, and he was over the moon with it,” Harriet explains. “He teamed it with a pair of dark shoes, a watch and a pair of cufflinks.” The couple’s groomsmen wore black dinner suits to match Joe’s, but without the waistcoat. Their bridesmaids wore oyster-coloured satin dresses with a cowl back design. “We had these altered to fit, and all three bridesmaids looked beautiful,” Harriet says. “Our flowergirl wore a similar dress to mine with a satin bow at the back.” “Liliana Simoes, the senior wedding executive at Easthampstead Park, was incredible throughout our journey and made our day run seamlessly from start to finish. We spent a lot of time with our suppliers, either before or on the day, so having people around you that you trust and work well with makes such a difference.” - Harriet and Joe 28

Our parents advised us to do what we both wanted to do, so that’s exactly what we did!” REAL WEDDINGS 31

Something blue Hester and Michael’s special day at Ardington House enjoyed a romantic cornflower blue colour theme Images courtesy of Photography by Bea Hester and Michael met at Hester’s place of work at the time, which was The Swan at Streatley near Reading, where she managed the gym. “Michael was a member and we became friends over coffee,” Hester tells us. “After I left, which was at the start of the first lockdown, we became a couple. Due to the restrictions, we moved in together within a month of our first proper date. Michael says he was attracted to my good humour and I would say the same about him!” Michael proposed on the 15th of September 2023 by surprising Hester with a helicopter flight from London Oxford Airport to London. “He had booked a night at The Shard for us,” Hester says. “The question ‘Will you marry me?’ was written on the window of our hotel room overlooking the River Thames and Tower Bridge - I said ‘Yes!’” Here, Hester tells about their church ceremony and reception at Ardington House. Hester and Michael Merritt married at Ardington: Holy Trinity followed by a reception at Ardington House in Oxfordshire. 33 REAL WEDDINGS

I loved the floral archway outside the church filled with blue hydrangeas. The flowers used in our wedding arrangements and bouquets included blue stocks with plenty of green and white varieties. A friend of mine who is a florist created all of our big-day blooms that looked fantastic. We had a string trio perform at the church and during our drinks reception. Top tip: “Timing is key! I went over the timings of our day a million times making sure that I had allowed enough time for each phase.” - Hester. We had a traditional vintage-inspired, five-tier cake made by my mum’s friend. I grew up in the village of Ardington and had always imagined I would get married at Ardington house since I was a little girl. We both felt relaxed and excited on our special day. We also had a 3ft croquembouche made by a family friend who owns Ardington Bakery. 34
