DE VERE PROPERTIES GIVE TO LOCAL CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS Hotel chain De Vere, with properties in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, volunteered more than 450 hours, equivalent to 56 days’ worth of their colleagues’ time, on Thursday 29th February to give back the extra leap year day to local charities and community projects. As part of the group’s wider ESG efforts, De Vere has committed to donating over 2,000 hours of volunteering in 2024 to continue to develop valued relationships within the local community. More than 100 colleagues across De Vere’s properties, as well as its central support team, volunteered at local charity partners including Cotswold Lake Trust, Berkshire Animal Connection Centre and Windsor Food Share. Many also engaged with local community projects such as litter picking, gardening and maintenance within local care homes. Laurie Nicol, De Vere’s chief operating officer, commented: “We’re always looking at ways we can support charities close to our hearts, so we were delighted to give so many hours back to such worthy, local causes on the extra day of this leap year.” Laurie continued: “The hours from the 29th February, combined with the great volunteering work already being undertaken by colleagues, gives us a great boost towards our target of giving back 2,000 volunteer hours to local communities in 2024.” Following the success of the volunteering event, De Vere is now making the day an annual occasion to kick-start their yearly charity campaign.” To find out more and to book a stay at a De Vere property, visit www.devere.co.uk All the latest from around the regions NEWS Nearlywed PARK FAIR RETURNS TO THE COTSWOLDS Park Fair will return to Oxfordshire bigger and better this year on Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of June at the Great Tew Estate. Issy and Adam’s special day at The Great House in Sonning enjoyed a wonderful waterside backdrop Images courtesy of Jade Marie Photography Issy and Adam married on the 23rd of October 2023 at The Great House in Sonning-on-Thames, Berkshire. Down by the river 30

Issy and Adam met at secondary school. “We knew of each other for years and I agreed to go on a coffee date with him when I was in college,” Issy tells us. Adam adds, “I just knew she was the one. I told my mum there was a girl I knew I was going to marry but we were so young so I waited until the right time. Luckily for us, the wait was worth it.” Adam proposed in 2020 after the couple had been together for five years living in their house with their little boy, Archie. “Adam decided to make me pancakes one morning and let me enjoy a lie in, however, he suddenly realised he had left something important in his work truck,” Issy tells us. “Half an hour later, I was finishing off the pancakes when he strolled back in, got down on one knee with Archie in one arm and the ring held out to me. It was a total surprise!” SETTING THE SCENE “I work in weddings so I was already very familiar with plenty of wedding venues. When we viewed The Great House in Sonning, it ticked all the boxes,” Issy explains. “It looked out on to the river and had a modern yet cosy décor. Our wedding was in October so the open fires and outside heaters were perfect. There was a smaller room to the side of the main room and we had invited children so this provided the ideal place for them. We had plenty of toys on hand (Archie handed out fidget toys before the ceremony) as well as a box of child-friendly snacks and drinks. We also had bags of bread so the little ones could take some down to the river and feed the ducks.” As soon as Issy started walking down the aisle and saw Adam, he became teary. He tells us, “I was so emotional on the day which was a big surprise. I managed to hold it together but as soon as I saw Issy walking down the aisle, I couldn’t hold back the tears, she just looked 31 REAL WEDDINGS

unreal. The entire day was perfect and everyone could see how well Issy had planned everything.” Issy adds, “Seeing Archie for the first time dressed up as the best man looking so smart was a wonderful moment. He had the important task of looking after the rings and bringing them to the front of the aisle when asked. My brothers thought it would be a good idea to tell Archie to play a little trick on Daddy, so when Adam went to take the rings from the box, Archie quickly snapped the lid back shut. It made everyone laugh and our photographer, Jade, got a great picture of Archie’s cheeky little face!” Choosing a colour scheme and décor was tricky for Issy because she has worked on more than 300 weddings and seen so many beautiful celebrations featuring different colours, themes and trends. “Although our wedding was during October, I wanted to stay away from dark colours so we opted for sage green, nude tones and pinks,” she tells us. “I was worried that our ceremony room felt a little dark so I wanted to get some fairylights added which transformed it. In addition, we added a beautiful fluffy, floral mantle arrangement and mini meadows to adorn either end of the aisle.” Issy is a fan of pre-loved items so the couple saved money on decorations! “I got white cheesecloth table runners and candles from Facebook marketplace, glass candle holders from charity shops and sweetie jars from a bride who didn’t need them anymore,” she tells us. “Our confetti was made by a lady who picks roses from her garden and dries them out and sells them in exchange for a donation to the Great Ormond Street Hospital which we thought was a lovely idea.” The couple’s florist, Daisy, worked wonders with their flowers, creating a stunning arrangement of bud vases to display on the tables to add some colour and height. “I have always wanted peonies in my bouquet but they were not in season so Daisy made sure I had plenty of blooms like dahlias and reflexed roses,” Issy tells us. Issy and Adam both have a sweet tooth so their cake was important to them. “We chose a one-tier carrot cake and the other layer was white chocolate and raspberry which tasted delicious,” Issy says. “I had found a design where the flowers had almost been painted on with buttercream which I thought looked classy and pretty. Our cake maker, Jo, said she loved creating it as she hadn’t done one like it before, when I saw it on the day I was so happy, it was better than expected!” Issy and Adam decided to opt out of favours and instead just make sure their guests were well-fed and watered throughout the day. “After the ceremony, we had drinks and canapés on the patio and then sat down for a wonderful three-course meal which finished off with tea, coffee and decadent chocolate truffles!” Issy explains. “During the evening, we had burgers, pizza, fries and wedding cake and before our reception started, we had a cocktail hour. Adam and I had both picked our favourite cocktail which the staff made up and our guests got to pick if they wanted a ‘Mr or Mrs’. I chose a Garden Spritz which is mainly gin, elderflower and white wine and Adam opted for a Cuban Missionary which was spiced rum, peach and pineapple juice.” Their stationary was made by Jess from Finishing Touch Prints who created the table place names, reserve tags and all of the signage. “Having one person do it all makes everything look seamless,” Jess tells us. “She matched our cocktail sign to the picture of our cocktails perfectly and we also had a wedding news sheet which was handed to our guests to read before the ceremony started. It had a couple of cute facts about us as a couple along with our order of the day and menu.” LOOKING THE PART “My wedding dress was designed by Stella York,” Issy tells us. “I purchased it from the bridal store Tilly Mint which is where my eldest sister got her dress from so it felt extra special. I have always liked simple material like satin or Mikado and I knew I wanted a long train and veil. As a bit of a bargain hunter, I started by trying on only sale “On the big day itself, remember to take in every second and enjoy it! Have some time alone with your partner just after the ceremony to bask in the craziness of being married!” - Issy and Adam REAL WEDDINGS 33

Start with the logistical parts like the venue, guest list and booking someone to marry you. Then you can move on to the fun parts like planning the décor!” - Issy dresses, which were all lovely, but I had seen a dress in the window which I just needed to try on. As soon as I walked out of the dressing room my mum, sisters and mother-in-law all gasped so I knew it was the one! It was an off-the-shoulder design with a thigh-high split, long train and classic buttons placed all down the back, it also had pockets!” Issy accessorized her dress with a cathedral-length veil decorated with small pearls. “I wore a pair of rose gold drop pearls for my earrings, which matched with my rose gold ring,” she tells us. Adam, the groomsmen and the couple’s fathers all wore classic black-tie tuxedos and Archie matched his daddy in a mini tux and fully stole the show! “Adam wore bumble bee cufflinks as a nod to me because when I was little, my parents would call me Issy Bee which was a special touch,” Issy tells us. “My main priority was to make sure all my bridesmaids were happy and comfortable with how they looked so I just gave them one colour, sage green, and asked them to pick their own style of dresses. Luckily, they all chose stunning gowns which came together so well. My make-up artist, Annabelle, also did the girls’ make-up and made them all glow!” Issy loves the traditional elements of weddings so had each of her bridesmaids and her mum be responsible for one of her ‘somethings’ “My mum gifted me my dress which was my something new, and my best friend, Lucy, got me a little blue charm for my bouquet,” Annabelle says. “My something old was from my sister, Geena, which was our favourite book when we were children which is called The Chocolate Wedding. I was able to read this to Archie in the morning which was so special. My something borrowed was from my other sister, Holly. It was a small flamingo charm which she had used on her wedding day, a symbol that represents our sister, Hannah and it was a really sentimental way to feel like she was with us on the day too.” TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple’s first dance stood out for Adam. “During the lead-up to the wedding, we listened to it a lot,” he tells us. “It was to Stand by Me by Ben E King and Archie loved to dance to it so when he came on the dancefloor and joined us it was a wonderful moment.” There were garden games provided for guests to enjoy during the drink reception. “In the evening, we had a fabulous DJ who took all our requests on board,” Issy says. “During the meal, we had put a disposable camera on each table along with an ‘I spy’ list and each guest had to take a photo from the list and then pass it down the table.” 34
