36 PJ and his groomsmen donned navy suits and the groom and best man stood out with waistcoats. M ellissa and PJ first met at a friend’s 18 th birthday after their secondary schools created a consortium with another two in the local area. “I was attracted to him because he had a car,” laughs Mellissa. “On a serious note, I fell for him as he was good looking and funny.” PJ agrees, “I thought she was attractive and we hit it off – also, I was one of the few people that did have a car!” The groom-to-be popped the question seven-and-a-half years after their initial meeting during a romantic trip to Paris, and even arranged a photographer to capture the moment. “It was a lovely hot day – perfect for a photo!” says the bride. “It was sort of a surprise, as our 22-month-old daughter had let slip she’d been to get a ring when her and PJ had spent a day together!” Here Mellissa, tells us more about their special day... I tried on so many different styles and I took my two maids-of-honour with me to help. When I tried on the Elodie design by Willowby at Watters, I had the biggest smile on my face – I truly felt like a princess. I didn’t feel the dress needed to be accessorised much as it had detailing on the bodice. My veil was plain with some beading on the clasp to complement my dress and PJ commissioned a sapphire necklace and matching earrings for my something blue . We didn’t have a traditional cake and instead opted for cake pops in two different hues – which were laid out to spell ‘love.’ We choose Corpus Christi as our ceremony venue as PJ is Catholic, it’s local to us, has a long altar and is just lovely and airy. The bridesmaids wore tulle skirts and each chose a blush top in a different style.
