An Essex Wedding - January/February 2021 (Issue 96)

Venue styling for the new normal Style it out W e’ve been on a rollercoaster of restrictions, distancing and guidelines over the last year, with couples and the wedding industry constantly adapting to new regulations. We wanted to explore how you can style three different ‘new normal’ weddings, whether you’re going small, taking it outside or throwing the ultimate party when this is all over. Thanks to our super-talented Essex experts for their advice and tips… Micro-weddings. So many couples have made the most of the situation and planned a smaller celebration. Will these intimate weddings stick around? And if so, how can you style them? “The best thing about having an intimate wedding is that you can focus on creating a personal and memorable experience for your closest loved ones. When it comes to table settings, attention to detail is key. Choose a long table you can all sit at together with two or three statement centrepieces that will add wow factor but not obstruct your view. Add foliage and candles to give a romantic look. Try giving meaningful personalised favours and unique place settings that guests can take home. Finally, fill the room with lanterns for a snug feel.” – Emma Fews, Elf Occasions “As we move into 2021, I believe we will see more of this style of wedding taking place in small, cosy venues or at home. As budgets are redistributed, you may have more money to spend per head, which will lead to more extravagant favours, dessert tables and personalised cocktails created by the couple.” – Michelle Broom, Occasions & Celebrations “Small weddings allow you to add luxurious touches. How about acrylic or handmade resin slice place settings? Beautiful and bespoke, they come in a range of colours and styles to suit your decor. They can even double up as wedding favours. Why not also invest in luxury wedding invitations?” – Katie Barnes, The Perfect Wedding Shop “The approach should be personal and creative, encapsulating the couple. Fewer guests doesn’t mean less of a celebration – in fact it’s the opposite! The intimate guest list means a more individual day. Look at ideas to make your venue feel cosier, such as drapes, ambient lighting and creative styling with lanterns, foliage and fairylights. Include ornate frames containing special family photos on a table with a lace or sequin cloth.” – Tia Demir & Sadie Norman, Mediterranean Occasions “Ceremony decor should frame the couple, so all eyes are on you. Floral moon gate arches and drape backdrops will make you centre stage, and can be moved to use as a photo backdrop or framing for the cake table or reception. Consider using one long family-size table to make every person feel as included as the next. Fill with lots of candles, cascading foliage and florals.” – Kelly Holman, Beautiful Things Event Hire www.face book.com/beautifulthingseventhire www.thep erfectweddingshop.co.uk 61 VENUE STYLING
