Adventures in resin Blueprint Woodcraft, is a family-run Essex studio based on Canvey Island, that handcrafts stunning bespoke wood furniture and resin pieces. We were invited along to take part in an exciting resin woodwork class, the perfect idea for a gettogether with your best gals or guys for the ultimate creative hen or stag activity. Here, CWM’s deputy managing editor tells us all about her two hours crafting a beautiful and unique serving board. “We were taken through the steps of creating the mould, calculating how much resin was required, creating our beautiful designs with pigments and mica powder, and of course, the resin pour itself. Wonderful business owner, skilled artisan and tutor for the morning, Alex Dzikuan, offered clear instructions throughout, and was always on hand to offer top advice. All that was left was to let it settle and begin its cure, entrusting my work of art to Alex’s capable hands for finishing. “Within two weeks, my board was ready and I’m thrilled with it. It had been polished and sanded beautifully by Alex and gold tone handles were affixed for a high-end feel. I can’t wait to display it. I’d recommend the workshop for a fun and memorable hen or stag do gathering. While the workshop space is small and can accommodate up to six, Alex is more than happy to accommodate groups of 12 and beyond in the main workshop. Simply get in touch as he’ll be delighted to plan an experience for you and your group complete with prosecco and snacks, or whatever vision. Roy and Lauren have known eachother for as long as they can remember. Over time, they realised that their friendship had potential become something more. They were right, and on 5th August, 2025 the pair joyfully tied the knot at Leez Priory. SETTING THE SCENE Roy and Lauren instantly fell in love with the beautiful outdoor ceremony space at Leez Priory, and with Lauren being such a history buff, the venue’s rich background made it feel like the perfect choice. The getting-ready spaces for the girls were another big factor, with Lauren’s background in the wedding industry, she knew how important it was to stay the night before, as those moments can truly shape a bride’s experience on such a fast-paced day. Lauren adds, “The venue already held a special place in our hearts even before our big day, as Roy’s stepdad, who sadly passed away in late 2023 from MND, had visited the venue with us and given it his approval.” SETTING THE SCENE The pair had always considered themselves a bit of an alternative couple - so it was important for them to bring that vibe into their wedding day. Lauren wore a black dress, which became the focal point of the colour palette, and built all the tonal elements around it. In a bold twist on tradition, the couple transformed their summer celebration into an enchanting ‘Halloween-in-August’ affair. Think warm twilight tones, moody décor, and just the right touch of autumnal magic. For the flowers, Lauren gave Dilly’s Florist in Colchester complete creative freedom; the only brief was ‘green and orange’, along with a photo of her dress. Lauren gushes, “The result was incredible - it felt as though the Dilly’s team had reached into our minds and brought our vision to life.” 32
DRESSED TO IMPRESS Lauren knew the dress was ‘the one’ the moment she tried it on. Lauren remembers, “It was important to me to get my grandma’s seal of approval, being an alternative gown. I knew it was the one after showing her white gowns first and the moment I popped on the black gown she said, ‘oh that’s so you – you look beautiful’.” TIME TO CELEBRATE For welcome drinks, his and hers cocktails were served - mojitos and strawberry daiquiris, plus a prosecco cart kept everyone’s glasses topped up throughout the day. Dinner featured ham hock to start, followed by lemon sorbet (Roy’s one nonnegotiable request for the entire day), roast beef, and a rich chocolate brownie for dessert. For the evening, the pair stuck to basics, with classic bacon baps and burgers - exactly what everyone needed for a late-night feast. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “There were three standout moments from the day that we’ll never forget.” Roy tells us. “The first was our ‘first look’ just before the ceremony - that special moment when we finally saw each other all dressed up. The second was when we took five minutes to ourselves during dinner, and Lauren kept saying, ‘Wow, it’s like the vision I’ve had in my head has come to life!’ And finally, the third, a rather unexpected highlight was when a firework misfired and set a small fire along the tree line, leading to a brief evacuation and a visit from the fire brigade. Not many couples can say they had firefighters show up on their wedding day!” The night ended with laughter echoing across the grounds, as guests teased the couple about the firework that nearly tried to steal the spotlight. It was the perfect finale to a day that was individual, enchanting, and wonderfully unforgettable. REAL WEDDINGS 33

Gabrielle says, “I wanted to create a stage to allow everyone to be themselves and to promote love. I met Charlie, from Farlie Photography and we clicked straightaway. Charlie not only understood my vision but skilfully brought it from concept to reality.” The models are a real-life couple who celebrated an intimate wedding the year before, so this colourful shoot was a beautiful chance for them to feel that newlywed love all over again. BE WITH YOU May the love Eucalyptus, Star Wars, and Stilton the cat: a truly personal celebration for Benjamin and Katharine Ruddy at Alpheton Hall Barns Images courtesy of Joshua Anstey Kat and Ben’s story began through mutual friends at a karaoke night. Although their pals were eager to set them up, it took weeks before the pair finally spoke to each other. One year after they got together, Ben planned a proposal that was both romantic and unexpected - back at the very same karaoke venue where they first crossed paths. On stage, he invited Kat to sing a duet of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with him. Unbeknownst to Ben, Kat didn’t know the song and wasn’t particularly a fan but that didn’t stop him from popping the question. Of course, Kat said, yes! Kat and Ben knew they wanted a barn wedding. Having visited a few venues, the pair clicked most with Nic and Carol at Alpheton Hall Barns. The venue offered a lot of scope for personalisation, and it was clear they thought carefully about small touches and little details that helped bring the day together. This was perfect for Kat and Ben as the date was set for 4th May 2025, also known as Star Wars Day. To honour the date, they hid miniature Star Wars spaceship models around the venue for guests to discover! SETTING THE SCENE The venue was transformed into a botanical haven. Large wooden hoops hung from the ceiling, each one wrapped in generous garlands of eucalyptus and foliage. This theme carried throughout the space, echoed in the stationery, which featured hand-drawn eucalyptus illustrations, and in the sage-green napkins that sat at each place setting. Centrepieces were vases filled with roses, peonies, and ranunculi in delicate shades of ivory, blush pink, peach, and pale mauve, all arranged atop wooden boards. Soft taper candles (LED to maintain safety without sacrificing ambiance) added a warm, intimate glow. The top table showcased a striking floral arrangement, serving as a lush focal point for the room. In a nod to Ben’s passion as a mixologist, each table was named after a cocktail, complete with charming illustrations of the drinks themselves. Personal touches were woven into every corner: polaroids documenting the couple’s journey together adorned the walls, alongside adorable photographs of their beloved cat, Stilton. Even the cake paid tribute to him, a tower of cheese wheels decorated with flowers and topped with a handcrafted sugar model of Stilton, delighting guests. TIME TO CELEBRATE After the ceremony, Kat and Ben stole a few precious minutes together to share a quiet glass of bubbles while guests gathered outside with confetti. This brief moment of calm quickly became one of their favourite memories, just the two of them taking in the joy of what had just happened. Their private photoshoot with the photographer followed soon after, giving them space to savour the moment and resulting in some of the most stunning photographs of the entire day. After an incredible three course meal, the party really got started – including Kat leading a conga line to The Vengabus! Their story wouldn’t be complete without a nod to where it all began – and yes, the guests all got up to perform karaoke. MEMORABLE MOMENTS Ben recalls, “One of the most iconic was during the father-ofthe-bride’s speech, when he surprised everyone by donning a Darth Vader mask and delivering the now-legendary line: ‘Ben, I am your father-in-law’.” The room erupted in laughter, marking it as one of the standout highlights of the evening.
