Sustainable catering, tick. Bar options, tick. We look at how to make your catering options stand out from the rest. PLANET FRIENDLY MENUS Many couples are choosing to focus their wedding around sustainability – and this also includes the all-important menu. When choosing your caterers, ask them if they use organic and locally sourced produce. From the meat to the desserts, this will not only reduce the carbon footprint but will actively support local business. You could even opt for a totally vegan or vegetarian menu to go the extra mile. Wash don’t throw. You’ve heard it time and time again but scrap single use plastics! Provide water stations with beautiful glasses – you can source these at your local charity shop if your venue doesn’t provide. With food trucks it’s much harder to get away from disposable packaging as they may not have the facilities to wash up onsite. However, discuss options... maybe they can use all paper boxes, and you can provide cloth napkins that can be used again instead of paper versions. With regards wine, Essex has some wonderful local options. Indeed, the UK wine market is one to be reckoned with. Take a visit to Dedham Vale Vineyard near Colchester, Crouch Ridge Vineyard or New Hall Wine Estate, Purleigh, to name a few. Savour the day Curated Lifestyle Mindy Oyeadeyie CATERING 49
