We chose a two-tier lemon curd & elderflower and carrot cake finished with white buttercream and edible pearls – simple but elegant. Each table was named after a place in Italy we have visited, such as Roma, Milano, Venezia. Just before the ceremony, as I was walking across the courtyard, the sun came out so me and my bridesmaids all cheered. The ceremony room featured ‘flower meadows’ on every other chair row and in front of the signing table which were then moved to the front of the top table – the real statement piece in the Barn! We bought some engraved cocktail stirrers for the ‘Aperol hour’ drinks reception. I love anything DIY and bits that added an extra personal touch. Our registrar was also my Maid of Honour’s mum, Jo Denny! We put in a special request to have her marry us and it was so lovely to have a friendly face that has known me for so many years. Our bouquets were put in vases when not used as additional decoration on the cake table and around the bar. 46
