An Essex Wedding - March/April 2022 (Issue 103)

I enjoy crafting and had made mini sketches of different ideas, so my friends and I would spend our evenings creating all different items from, wedding favours (candles and mini Prosecco), to adding the calligraphy for the running order. I had been collecting various different décor from America, including faux antlers for the centrepieces and wicker pumpkins. I had the idea to use pumpkins as the vase for flowers, but hadn’t necessarily anticipated the length of time it took to carve each pumpkin to ensure that they were fresh enough for the day, but had my friends to help. Leez priory had always been a venue that I had been interested in viewing as soon as we were engaged. It was also coincidental that there was an open day the day after we returned home from the Maldives! It was a beautiful crisp February morning when we arrived, and as we walked down to the main entrance I started to cry because it was more beautiful in real life – we booked the following day! Our wedding cake was entirely gluten free, our baker was amazing (and understood cross contamination) which meant I was able to enjoy our cake as well! Food was a big thing for us, I have coeliac disease which also adds additional complications with having so many restrictions in what I can eat. Leez Priory were amazing and created our menu based on what we wanted and all was gluten free! For the place cards we had pinecones sprayed gold with the individual’s name on. 46
