WITH LOVE From York Katie and Roan tied the knot at The Hospitium among the beautiful Museum Gardens in York Images courtesy of Swiftly Creative Roan proposed to Katie at the Edge viewing platform in New York in 2022. They’d known each other since they were 10, so the time had come! Earlier that year, the couple had visited York together and fell in love with the Museum Gardens. They both adore characterful buildings, so they snapped a selfie outside the Hospitium in the grounds. “We didn’t know at the time that it was a wedding venue,” Katie explains. Once they were engaged, Katie explored many potential venues online until she saw an advert for the Hospitium. “I remembered our visit and couldn’t believe you could get married there,” Katie says. “We booked a visit straight away and secured our date the same week – it felt special to us.” The couple chose lilac as the foundation for their wedding palette, perfect for early summer nuptials. Katie is a creative soul and wanted to get involved with some DIY elements, so she made their welcome sign with a vintage mirror and mirror paint. She also made a selfie backdrop and wedding newspapers. “I didn’t want to go overboard with the decor, but I adore flowers and wanted them to be the centre of attention,” she explains. “Our florist did an amazing job.” Following the 2pm ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests settled down to a three-course wedding breakfast complete with traditional prosecco toasts alongside the speeches. A buffet was served in the evening along with the wedding cake. Since Katie is such a floral fan, it’s easy to see why she fell in love with her gown, Florelle by Heidi Hudson. “The dress felt perfect and after trying it on, my one-year-old nephew clapped to give me the stamp of approval!” Roan wore a dark green threepiece suit with a champagnecoloured tie and pocket square. The colours complemented the lilac palette beautifully. His party’s attire differed slightly with dark green waistcoats and black jackets. The bridesmaids wore lilac tulle dresses. Katie had arranged for some very special accessories, and the night before, she and her girls had permanent bracelets fitted. “Everyone loved this idea and we still have them on now,” she shares. She also got them involved in a bit of crafting. They were each given flowers to match the colour palette and arranged and decorated their own bouquets – a relaxing activity they could all enjoy together. A violinist created a romantic atmosphere for the ceremony and drinks reception. It was a gorgeous summer day, so guests loved making the most of the outdoor space post vows. During the evening, a live band packed the dance floor and there was an audio guest book available for guests to leave their best wishes to the happy couple. REAL WEDDINGS 21
