We all emerge from winter hibernation to take in the fresh floral breeze and the new life nature has in store for us. And it’s that symbolism of new life that makes it such a special time of year to tie the knot, with couples starting out on their married journey together. Springtime is an ever-popular time of year to host a wedding, and it’s easy to see why. For those of us who aren’t a fan of the summer heat but prefer more hours of sunshine, it’s perfect. Plus, the styling opportunities are oh-so romantic, with our favourite flowers coming into bloom, your wedding venue can sing with freshness and the abundance of nature. We love a pretty pastel palette with an English country garden vibe for these months, bringing the best of the outdoors in! In this issue though, we take a wander through several seasons, celebrating springtime as we dive into the world of Bridgerton, while embracing the chillier months with our real weddings. So, whatever time of year you’re saying, “I do,” there’s plenty here to love! So, as ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! 07379 968 040 www.krystinaeyreindependentcelebrant.co.uk A member of the Association Of Independent Celebrants KRYSTINA EYRE INDEPENDENT CELEBRANT Zoe Gibbons Photography Experience a celebrant-led ceremony that’s all about you With wedding celebrations led by celebrants on the rise, local celebrant Krystina Eyre is here to help you celebrate in your own style, just the way you want. While she is unable to marry you legally, as currently only registrars can do this in the UK, you can take care of the legalities at any point. Whether you tie the knot in the eyes of the law on the day, the month before, or even a year before your wedding celebration, what Krystina can do is put together a ceremony for the main event with 100% input from you. So, what would be included? “Well, let’s include your love story to start with,” Krystina says. “Was it love at rst sight, or a love that’s blossomed over time? How many of your guests know how you met? Next, let’s include your own promises — not vows, but personal promises. Do you promise to let your other half spend more time in the garage, or do you promise to take them to the rugby? Maybe it could be a promise to keep the magic alive between you and go on regular adventures, or to make sure your person has time to read.” What personal promises would you like to make? Other elements you might want to include are poems, a personal music performance by a friend, or a symbolic action. There are many aspects that can be included to suit you and your partner. Having a celebrant-led wedding celebration also means you can have it wherever you want. Are you a farmer, or joining a farming family? You could have the celebration in your own barn. It could be in a wood, in your own garden, or on a beach. You’re not restricted by the location of the ceremony or its length. Want something fun? Themed? Not a problem. You can also include a toast with alcohol. Find out more at www.krystinaeyreindependentcelebrant.co.uk LOVE STORY zoegibbonsphotography.co.uk bumblebugsphotography.com

BLISS Burgundy Shellie and Sarah chose a warm and rich winter palette for their December nuptials Images courtesy of Zoe Gibbons Photography Shellie and Sarah met in the modern way, on a dating app and six years later, having hiked to the summit of Old Man of Coniston together, Sarah asked Shellie to marry her. The couple decided to tie the knot at Wakefield Town Hall and fell in love with Silvertini House, Walton, for their reception venue. “It has beautiful grounds with simple yet elegant open spaces and gorgeous views,” Shellie explains. “Jess, who owns the venue, was very supportive in making our day amazing.” As the couple said “I do” just after Christmas on 30th December, they opted for a rich, warming winter palette featuring burgundy. They leaned into the rustic nature of the venue with its surrounding natural abundance for their styling, while making the most of its big windows and wooden floors. They also provided wedding newspapers to keep everyone informed of the day’s events and treated each guest to a table gift. After trying on around five wedding dresses, Shellie found her beautiful lace gown with intricate detailing. “I knew it was the one when I looked at mum, and she had tears in her eyes,” she shares. Sarah, meanwhile, was on the hunt for something different to complement her figure and height. “My dress featured a beautiful lace and was ankle length which suited me perfectly,” she tells us. Sarah completed the look with a pair of white, lace ankle boots. The fathers-of-the-brides and Shellie’s son all looked dapper in their matching suits, and the bridesmaids were dressed in flowy, burgundy dresses with fluffy, white shrugs to keep out the winter chill. The wedding breakfast was served buffet-style on platters at each table. Each one included a feast of fish goujons, mini burger sliders, pigs in blankets, peppered steak skewers, brie and cranberry filo, and chicken panko with aioli – we’re told every morsel was amazing! If your mouth is already watering, brace yourself as dessert followed with chocolate brownies, churros and chocolate, and mini raspberry cheesecake. The couple booked a selfie pod and video/audio guest book to keep guests entertained, while a DJ packed the dance floor in the evening. They also hired a wedding crasher – drag queen, Lola – who was a huge hit with their guests. Naturally, the highlight of the day for Shellie was marrying the love of her life surrounded by nearest and dearest, but she also has happy memories of bombing around the venue’s grounds on a golf cart with their photographer, Zoe, and content creator, Caisha! What’s more, the newlyweds felt like royalty in their other form of transport for the day – a vintage Viscount Rolls Royce. REAL WEDDINGS 17

Plum’s the word Ellie and Tyler’s October wedding day was styled in a modern autumnal palette with rich plum the feature hue Images courtesy of Kirsty Mattsson Photography REAL WEDDINGS 23
Tyler proposed to Ellie on Tower Bridge during a weekend away together in London and before long the venue search was on. “We were both in the military and love hiking and the great outdoors,” Ellie shares. The couple adore North Yorkshire as a beautiful place to walk and fell in love with Middleton Lodge. Having set the date for their autumn wedding, Ellie and Tyler settled on an elegant, romantic theme featuring soft seasonal hues. Soft drapes cascaded from the ceiling while tall candles were placed on the tables along with statement florals. The wedding breakfast was served buffet style including a selection of Yorkshire sirloin, Lebanese chicken and harrisa cauliflower accompanied by a selection of salads. The decadent dessert was an egg custard tart with blackberry compote and lemon meringue. When the evening rolled around guests were further treated to mouthwatering sausage and bacon butties followed by brownies and blondies on the dance floor. 24
Ellie wore a two-piece bridal set from Milla Nova, Aminata, while Tyler looked dapper in a tux with stone-hued jacket. The groomsmen were dressed in black tuxes in contrast to the groom and the bridesmaids looked stunning in their off-theshoulder and backless silk dresses in plum. A three-piece live band entertained all assembled during the day and in the evening two more members joined the fray to bring the party atmosphere. The couple created a wonderful cosy ambience for the evening by setting up a Champagne tower, outdoor fire pits with s’mores and sparklers. ‘Keep calm and marry on’ was definitely a mantra for the happy duo in pulling off such a successful and joyous wedding day: “Don’t let others around you stress you out. If you’re calm and organised everything will fall into place.” REAL WEDDINGS 25

This local shoot is defined by a soft, elegant palette, designed to echo the beauty of the panoramic setting at Scarborough Spa Images courtesy of J Photography Shining SEA VIEWS The venue, Scarborough Spa, acted as the inspiration for this local shoot, focusing on movement, detail, and how each space can be styled and photographed to perfection. From interior settings to the coastal backdrop and the distinctive cliff lift, which adds a unique sense of place, the location informed the styling. Styling direction was led by Wow Weddings, using a soft, elegant colour palette that allowed textures, details, and design elements to sing through without distracting from the beauty of the venue itself. Overall, the shoot came together as a collaborative effort, designed to inspire by showing how different suppliers’ work can enhance both the venue and one another, while highlighting the flexibility and visual impact of Scarborough Spa as a potential location for your big day. 28

PHOTOGRAPHY We demystify the world of wedding photography for you with our glossary of terms Choosing your wedding photographer is a hugely exciting time, and a task we suggest you prioritise. However, with great power comes great responsibility, so it’s not a decision to take lightly! Remember, your wedding photos will be the one thing (aside from your rings, and your actual marriage) that will last a lifetime. So, this isn’t an area to spare the budget or the time on. If you’ve already started looking, you may well appreciate that the above isn’t as easy as it sounds. Have you encountered an entirely new world that you never knew existed? Have you discovered that wedding photographers speak a different language? Suddenly feeling overwhelmed by choice? Allow us to demystify the whole process for you with our glossary of wedding photography terms. Understanding some of these keywords that photographers use, will help you to form a greater understanding of what’s on offer and what you actually want. in focus 32
Andres Molina for Unsplash CANDIDS This is how photographers refer to informal, unstaged shots; just capturing you and your loved ones in the moment as it happens. They capture genuine, raw emotion and always feature among our favourites. Lori Dejong for Unsplash AMBIENT LIGHT This refers to the light source for your photography being entirely natural rather than from artificial means such as a flash or studio lights. It can also be a style of photography in itself, as use of ambient light brings a beautiful, natural, romantic atmosphere to the resulting images. Do bear in mind though, that during the winter months this may pose a challenge, but your photographer will know the best times and places to utilise what natural light there is and will recommend the use of other forms of lighting when necessary. BLACK and WHITE This sounds simple, and it is! Many photographers will suggest a mix of colour and black and white shots for a timeless, classic effect. Some images just look better in black and white. Most will capture the image in colour in camera and edit in post-production giving you a choice for your final album. COPYRIGHT So, you want to share, share, share your beautiful gallery, but who owns the copyright? Traditionally, it remains with the photographer. However, they’ll likely be more than happy for you to share for personal purposes among your friends and family, but when commercial copyright is required such as use here in our gorgeous magazine or for use in advertising, a completely separate agreement is required. When you discuss your contract with your photographer, always ask them how you have permission to use your images. Boudoir This is an intimate, pre-wedding bridal shoot, designed to empower you to feel confident in your own skin and embrace your femininity. Captured with a specialist photographer in a private setting (hence the name) these are typically gifted to grooms and you’ll be glad to hear are intended for his eyes only. PHOTOGRAPHY 33
DETAILS Don’t forget the detail shots when discussing what’s important to you. Here, we’re talking about flowers, cake, tablescapes and more. You’ve spent so much time and effort carefully curating the look of your big day, so you’ll love having it all immortalised to look back on and remember how incredible everything looked. DOCUMENTARY During your research you may come across wedding photographers who describe their style as documentary, but what does this mean? You can expect this type of photographer to capture natural, unposed moments of your day, telling the story of events as they unfold. You may also see this style described as photojournalistic, reportage or candid. They’ll avoid staged shots like the plague in favour of capturing those genuine emotions, reactions and interactions. Ahmed Kzood for Unsplash Editorial This style of wedding photography combines a high-fashion aesthetic with all-important storytelling, aiming to create a polished magazine-like feel. There’ll be an element of artistic direction, styling and posing, along with set up of creative compositions. So, this is one for the photography enthusiasts but probably not for you if you’re nervous in front of the camera. Coverage When you see this term in photographer’s packages it’s referring to the hours they’ll be with you to capture your day whether it be ceremony and wedding breakfast only, for example, or for the whole day. Maximum coverage will usually involve them staying until the start of your evening party, so they can capture your first dance. As a side note, if your tog is with you all day please don’t forget to feed them, no one works well on an empty stomach! Mariah Krafft for Unsplash DIGITAL Most photographers will use digital cameras these days, thanks to the benefits the technology brings. Your photographer will be able to review their shot immediately, so they can check they’ve got the perfect one. Plus, it gives you a faster turnaround time, the images are easily shared, and photographers have more creative control. ENGAGEMENT SHOOT If offered, this is something we recommend taking your photographer up on. Many will offer this as part of a package, so do double check. Not only will you have another wonderful set of images to treasure, but this session also allows you to get to know your photographer and feel comfortable in front of the camera, both of which will be invaluable to you on the big day. 34
Hisu Lee for Unsplash FINE ART When it comes to wedding photography fine art refers to a style that elevates your images focusing on artistic and aesthetically captivating photographs akin to fine art. This style focuses on beauty and tells the story of your day through a series of carefully curated images rather than purely documenting events. Fancy National Portrait Gallery-worthy shots? This one’s for you! Joeyy Lee for Unsplash FIRST LOOK If you’re not precious about the first time you see each other being from either end of the aisle, this is a lovely option to consider. You’ll meet with your photographer before your ceremony to capture your reactions as you see each other in your big-day attire for the very first time. There are often tears and emotions aplenty to immortalise. You may also opt for this if timings are too tight to allow couple shots post ceremony. First look shots with the bridesmaids or father-of-the bride also totally tug on the heart strings! Briana Autran for Unsplash Formals This generally refers to your group shots that are posed and, well, formal. Your loved ones will be arranged in neat rows, smiling directly at the camera with the two of you in the centre. They’ll include traditional group gatherings, such as bridesmaids, groomsmen, mothers and fathers, friends, bride’s extended family, groom’s extended family, and so on and so forth. This used to be the accepted form of capturing loved ones on camera but is now much less popular, in no small part due to the time they take. Peri Stojnic for Unsplash Film This method uses the traditional way of capturing images to negative film, which needs to be developed in a dark room later. It’s now used for nostalgic, artistic, or aesthetic purposes bringing a more unpredictable but considered approach to your photography. Some photographers will offer this as an add on, as it’s quite risky to use as the primary method. As film is more costly than digital, you’ll likely have the option to spread one or two rolls of film out across your day for the key moments. Anna Vi for Unsplash GOLDEN HOUR This is the period of the day shortly before sunset when the daylight softens creating a golden glow that’s an absolute dream for your photographer. Discuss possible opportunities with them for some magical shots. PHOTOGRAPHY 35
Portraits Quite simply this is your couple’s shoot, which will usually take place directly following your ceremony while your guests are enjoying the drinks reception. How long you choose to spend away from your guests capturing these images is entirely up to you. Your photographer should have a good feel for your venue and will have all the best backdrops pre-selected. If you’re getting married in a city centre location, we highly recommend getting out at about with your photographer who will love to capture the two of you in some iconic spots. The York Museum Gardens with the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey offer some wonderful spots, while York’s historical Shambles is a must in our book! TRASH THE DRESS This is an oh-so fun shoot that should take place after the big day, where you literally trash your dress. You can pick the location such as the beach or a forest where creative images of you running through the water or trees, or having paint thrown at you, will inevitably leave your dress in a state it can’t be saved from but will result in the most incredible images. Tip top: many couples choose to use smoke bombs for some showstopping wedding day images, but we recommend exercising caution as they can inadvertently lead to dress damage. Take another, cheaper, dress to change into for these shots or chat to your photographer about how to minimise risk. Viespire for Unsplash SECOND SHOOTER Your photographer may or may not be able to offer a second shooter. So, do you really need one? It’s all down to the coverage you require. For example, a second shooter means your preparations, and your partner’s, can be captured simultaneously. You’ll also be able to see your ceremony as it unfolds from all angles, with one photographer typically at the back and one at the front, or one on you and one on your partner. It all depends on where the celebrant or registrar is happy for them to be. POST-PRODUCTION If you’re wondering why on Earth, it can take weeks or even months to get a look at your photographs after your big day, the reason will be post-production. Sure, digital is immediate, there’s no film development required, but your photographer will want to make the most of the flexibility that brings. This is an in-depth process that takes time and involves selecting the best images to present to you; adjusting colour balance, exposure, contrast and more to bring a cohesive look to the images that matches the photographer’s style; and retouching, such as removing something random from the background. PACKAGES When you’ve narrowed down the style of photographer you want to book, you’ll be getting down to the nitty gritty of looking at the packages they offer. Look out for elements including hours of coverage, consultations, timeline, number of images, albums and prints, whether they offer a pre-wedding shoot, how they deliver the images and more. There’ll often be various tiers available from the basic to upgrades such as inclusion of a second shooter or drone footage. Anita Austvika for Unsplash Testimonials Once you’ve narrowed down your preferred list of photographers, we’d advise you to pore over their website or social media testimonials and galleries. Trust is so important, so you need to see how other couples felt about their experience, as well as viewing a full wedding gallery rather than one or two highlights. SHOT LIST If there are any shots of your wedding day you simply can’t live without, be sure to draw up a shot list for your photographer. This might include important group shots such as you and your bridesmaids. But we do recommend you keep the groups to a minimum to avoid taking too much time out of your day. 36

Style your day the Bridgerton way Here at CWM HQ, we’ve been waiting on the edge of our seats for series four of Bridgerton to land on Netflix, and the time has finally come! Our obsession has once again gone into full-flight and paired with our love for weddings we felt inspired to combine the two to bring you this guide to creating your very own Bridgerton-themed big day. rosiedalia.com Dearest gentle reader SETTING THE MOOD The Regency period is your key reference point when planning a Bridgerton-inspired wedding. Think the romance of Jane Austen paired with the refinement of the upper crust, and an added touch of whimsy to reflect the much-loved TV series. PALETTE PERFECTION Your styling foundation will be your powdery pastels with the classic, dreamy Wedgewood blue that swathed most of the first series leading the way. Add to this, if you wish, wedding favourites blush and sage green hues, along with a splash of lavender should you wish to take it even further. Ivory is a top background shade to keep things soft, avoiding the starkness of white. ON SET Carefully consider your venue to complement your theme. The good news is that the UK is blessed with an abundance of stunning Regency venues. Look to your historic spa towns including Bath, Harrogate and Cheltenham where you’ll be spoilt for choice. Even outside of these hotspots, you shouldn’t struggle to locate a Georgian manor available for weddings. Characterised by their symmetry, tall, multi-paned sash windows, high ceilings and grand entrances often embellished by show-stopping arches or columns, Georgian properties are picture-perfect and offer the dream backdrop for a wedding. vam.ac.uk/shop unsplash.com/@anitaaustvika rexlondon.com unsplash.com/@itsbrunoagain Daniella, watters.com unsplash.com/@anitaaustvika 38
BRIDGERTON STYLE When it comes to styling your venue the Bridgerton way look to Pen and Colin, and Anthony and Edwina as your gurus. The latter wedding day (spoiler alert) was ill-fated and ultimately called off of course, but the ceremony styling left us swooning nonetheless! So, an abundance of blooms is what you’re striving for. Big, blousy peonies, roses, ranunculus, hydrangeas and wisteria are your go to. Style the aisle with floral showstoppers on plinths to add height, before you reach a dramatic flower arch at the altar. Aim for elegance and opulence with your reception space. Gold accents in the form of candlesticks and candelabras are a dreamy addition to your tablescape but do be sure to check with the venue whether they allow open flame. If not, don’t be afraid to opt for battery power. Gold-chargers, vintage mirrors and frames for your table plan and numbers, with oodles of soft draping and theme-fitting napkins set the scene and paint an atmosphere of Regency splendour. LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE The empire waist epitomises the height of Regency style, but it’s not for everyone, so an A-line gown will set the tone equally well. Opt for soft lace, tulle or silk fabrics with puff sleeves or an off-the-shoulder silhouette to complete the romantic vibe. Don’t miss the Bridgerton Collection by Allure Bridals (allurebridals.com). Finish your look by accessorising with pearls or florals along with gloves and a delicate veil for added drama. If the groom isn’t game for full Georgian-style dress, he’ll look just as at home in a tailored suit complete with waistcoat and a cravat or ascot instead of a modern tie. YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED... Calligraphy is key to achieving your Bridgerton stationery vibe, with everything from invitations to place names penned in this cursive style. Depending on budget you can choose to print or enlist the help of a professional calligrapher for a more personal edge. For a true reflection of Regency, wax seals are an absolute must! You can even pen your invitations in a more formal style to mirror Lady Whistledown’s tone of voice. PLAY ON The perfect music to craft your Bridgerton ambience? All together now – a string quartet! Bridgerton is iconic for its string renditions of modern tunes, but this is nothing new as wedding musicians have been doing this forever. So, whether you decide to bring your favourite songs to life with a period-fitting feel or prefer to select your music from the pantheon of classical elegance, the stage will be set for each important moment to unfold.
