First things first: Happy New Year! I love our first issue of the year as it’s the time we welcome most new readers, with the festive season being the most popular for romantic proposals, and celebrate with existing readers as they flip over the calendar to realise – “We’re getting married THIS YEAR!!” Welcome one and all; we’re delighted to be sharing this exciting chapter with you. Whichever camp you fall into, I hope you’ll find this issue useful and inspiring. For those of you starting out on this exciting journey we present our annual Planning SOS feature, where we tackle some common questions the newly engaged often have. What’s more, whether you’re seeking guidance from those wise couples who’ve been there, done that, or simply like being nosey (we don’t blame you), there’s plenty to love in our local real weddings this issue. I can’t wait to discover what 2026 has in store for the wonderful world of weddings. Think pink If you’re looking for a local wine that won’t break the bank, check out The Straw Hat Lush & Fruity Rosé NV (75cl from £4.95), produced in Yorkshire using grape juice from sunny Spain. Delicately pink and irresistibly inviting, this rosé brims with the scent of strawberries, raspberries, and juicy fruit. Fresh and lively, it’s medium-bodied with just the right balance of fruit and tang. The Straw Hat wines are available nationwide in Tesco, Morrisons, B&M, Iceland, leading retailers, and at many local independent stores. NEW COLLECTION Kate Beaumont is thrilled to unveil her latest bridalwear collection – a fresh edit of timeless designs for modern brides. Across 18 new pieces – including eight gowns, one jumpsuit, five tops, and four skirts – the collection explores both thoughtfully refined and entirely new silhouettes, while staying true to the design values that run through all of Kate’s creations. As ever, versatility is key. From bias-cut silk slips to textural tops and soft, fluid skirts, the new pieces are designed to mix and match with one another or pair effortlessly with favourites from the Icons collection. Kate’s eco-conscious, pure silk fabrics return, including silk satin, matte marocains, and hammered satins, joined by a beautiful new addition, organic embroidered organza. Every gown is made to order, and custom alterations can be easily accommodated. This flexibility ensures every design works perfectly for the wearer’s figure and preferences. Kate Beaumont bridalwear is available through private appointments at her welcoming Sheffield studio or via online consultations for brides based further afield. Find out more at kate-beaumont.co.uk PROUD POOCHES Some stories begin later in life, but for owner of Yorkshire Wedding Tails Jayne, it began when she was just four years old. This is when her mum taught her to sew – “Those moments became some of my most treasured memories,” she tells us. At 15, Jayne became a tailoress, determined to learn every part of the job and by 23, she began working from home, making designer children’s wear until the shop closed. Later, an opportunity came along to make dog collars and leads for a small business, and buying her first industrial sewing machine felt like a dream come true. While she loved it there, when the company began struggling, she decided to take the leap. “People were constantly saying I should start up on my own, but I didn’t seem to have confidence,” she explains. After nearly a year of planning, Yorkshire Wedding Tails was born – combining her love of sewing with beautiful pet wedding accessories. “I hope I’ve made my mum proud, I couldn’t have done it without her,” Jayne shares. Insta-love Olabamidele and Boluwatife met on Instagram and tied the knot at Atoy Venue in Sheffield in September 2025 Images courtesy of Camera Boss REAL WEDDINGS 17

Olabamidele met Boluwatife when he left a comment on an Instagram platform talking about himself and the type of woman he was searching for. Boluwatife followed him as a result, so he sent her a DM and the rest is history! He proposed to her three months later on her birthday at a bar and restaurant in Sheffield. The couple fell in love with Atoy Venue in Sheffield as soon as they saw it. “The all-white interior, bathed in soft white light created the perfect blank canvas for our wedding vision,” Olabamidele explains. “My wife and I are drawn to simple elegance and understated luxury, something refined, not overly busy, but still breathtaking.” They shared the dream of their flowers and lighting taking centre stage and the venue allowed them to bring this to life beautifully. The welcome signs and seating plan were lilac to mirror the palette of their pre-wedding shoot, while they stuck to a main colour palette of nature-based hues for the flowers and remaining décor. The wedding menu was a feast! Alongside the traditional dessert, the couple offered a full menu card to delight guests. The main courses included jollof rice, fried rice, Ofada rice, poundo yam and Amala, accompanied by a variety of soups such as abula, efo, egusi, and buka stew. They also served continental dishes such as tender beef vermicelli noodles, shredded beef in green pepper sauce, curried chicken, garlic sweet corn, and sauteed prawns. The five-tier big-day bake was decorated in pure white icing with beads. “It was heavenly,” Olabamidele remembers. “We got exactly what 18

we requested.” The groom’s suit and agbada outfit were made by a luxury Nigerian brand in Doncaster, while his after party attire was made by a brand based in Manchester. “We’ve followed these suppliers on Instagram and their designs feel unreal.” The groomsmen too wore Nigerian agbada styles in handcrafted designs. Boluwatife wore stunning pieces by Roffy Designer throughout the day. “The most incredible part is that all her measurements were taken virtually,” Olabamidele shares. “Yet each outfit fit her perfectly, as though they were made for her from the start.” Her civil dress was a mermaid style with veil and we’re told that guests haven’t stopped asking who made the masterpiece! Meanwhile, her bridesmaids wore asoebi in matching fabrics. The showstopping entertainment for the day began with a solo artist who serenaded guests with live gospel music. Later, a seven-piece band, Sammy G, took to the stage followed by DJ Screech who packed the dance floor. The highlight of the day for Olabamidele was the spontaneous 30 minutes of worship, making their wedding ceremony exceptionally memorable. REAL WEDDINGS 19

MOMENTS Minimalist Bethany and Creg said “I do” at Bawtry Hall, and kept their styling chic, elegant and modern with a black and white palette Images courtesy of Pears Photography Beth and Creg met online and wasted no time in moving in together shortly afterwards. That was 10 years ago and they’ve been together ever since. Creg proposed in 2023 at The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, on the balcony of their suite. When the venue search began, the couple immediately fell in love with Bawtry Hall. “We loved the exclusivity and how amazing it looks inside and out,” Beth explains. The venue spoke for itself, so the colour palette of choice was black and white with simple, minimalist vibes. The florals too were kept simple with white roses and eucalyptus. The reception tables meanwhile, were adorned with mirror plate runners, black candelabras, glass black-rimmed chargers, vases with floating candles and black napkins. The chairs featured ivory drapes tied with black ribbons. Guests were treated to cake pop wedding favours iced to fit the palette. The place names too were in keeping with white ribbons and black writing. Following the “I dos” guests mingled in the grounds while canapés were served. These mini morsels included fish, chips and pea puree; wagyu sliders with cheese sauce and onion relish; and chocolate-dipped strawberries. For the main event sirloin of local roast beef was served with Yorkshire puddings, goose fat roast potatoes and gravy. By the time the evening rolled around, people were starting to get peckish again, so the couple laid on a garden barbecue. Although Beth had her heart set on a huge princess dress covered in sparkles, she ultimately opted for a more classic style in plain satin with big bow detail on the back – Dorothy from Dorothy Eloise Bridal’s collection. “I knew it was the one as soon as I put it on, even though the sample size was too small. It just made me more excited to try the final dress on,” the bride shares. “I felt so beautiful in it on the day, with hair and makeup done. I felt like a princess!” Creg was dressed in a black tuxedo by Antique Rogue, with white Ted Baker shirt, black bow tie and white trainers. His groomsmen were dressed to match. The bridesmaids were sleek and sophisticated in their black, off-the-shoulder, satin gowns, which they accessorised with black pearl headbands. The entertainment for the day was kicked off by Rachel Elizabeth Illustration who took photos of guests allowing her to paint portraits for them to take home. Heading into the evening, the casino went down a storm along with the photo booth, audio guest book and DJ. “The highlight of the day for me was just having all of our favourite people together as Creg and I celebrated our love for each other,” Beth says. “My top wedding tip would be to do your wedding the way you want it. Despite people questioning our choices, we went ahead and did it our way. Don’t get stuck with traditions if you don’t want to. Creg and I didn’t have a wedding cake, a first dance or speeches and it was absolutely perfect – exactly what we wanted.” REAL WEDDINGS 23

Into the Set in Cockley Wood, the team knew there was only one direction this local shoot could take Images courtesy of Zoe Gibbons Photography WOODS The setting for this local styled shoot, Cockley Wood Weddings, was the project’s inspiration. Set in gorgeous woodlands, there was no theme that fit it better than autumnal oranges, greens and browns. Shoot coordinator and photographer Zoe Gibbons says, “I searched high and low for some of the most amazing suppliers in the industry, including some I used for my own wedding back in 2023. This was my first styled shoot after joining the industry in April 2025, so I wanted it to be amazing.” Mission accomplished we think! Let’s see if you agree. LOCAL SHOOT 29

Daunted by the mammoth task that lies ahead? Fear not, our troubleshooting guide to wedding planning is here to help PLANNING Getty Images Whether you got engaged during the popular festive season, or you’re knee deep in spreadsheets at this point, our troubleshooting guide to wedding planning is here to help. If you’ve just set out on your journey to W-day, no doubt your head is swimming with questions right now. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find all the answers in one handy place? We’ve got you! We’re here with the most common wedding worries and discuss how to handle them. Wedding stress? Pah! We laugh in the face of wedding stress! HOW MUCH IS THIS ALL GOING TO COST ME? The simple answer is that it’s entirely up to you! Before you book anything, before you even look at any inspiration, decide together what you can realistically spend on the big day. Work out not only what you can spend, but what you want to spend. The last thing you need is to fall in love with everything on Pinterest only to end up disappointed when the elements you had your heart set on turn out to be out of budget. Once you have a ballpark total figure you’re both comfortable with (ideally without starting married life in heaps of debt), break your budget into categories. Have a look at our handy guide to allocating your spend. While working out where to spend what, discuss your nonnegotiables list. These are the elements you’ll want to allocate more budget to; there’s a time to compromise and save, and there’s a time not to. Our top tip is to avoid cutting corners on your photographer. They are often priced to reflect the quality of their work and as the photos are the one part of the day that’ll be with you forever, you don’t want to be left with regrets. Likewise, it’s tempting to fall into the trap of believing you can DIY most of it, but there are smart ways of doing this. Before you go gung-ho down the crafting route weigh up the costs of your materials and potential impact on the environment versus the costs of hiring. Considering your guest count will be crucial when navigating your budget – indeed, the two go hand in hand. If you need to lower your budget, cut your guest list. Another way to save is to look for off-peak venue options. You can often save a packet by opting for mid-week dates, winter weddings, or looking out for late availability deals. Yes, we know it’s boring, but spreadsheets will be your best friend! Trust us, it pays to be hyper-organised when it comes to wedding planning, as losing track could see your budget spiral out of control. Include quotes, deposits, balance due dates and remaining balances so nothing sneaks up on you. When contacting suppliers for quotes, make sure you understand anything that could potentially trip you up. For example, VAT, travel charges, and any other hidden costs. TYPICAL BUDGET BREAKDOWN Venue and catering: 40 to 50 per cent Photography and videography: 10 to 15 per cent Entertainment: five to 10 per cent Venue styling and flowers: eight to 12 per cent Attire and beauty: five to 10 per cent Wedding planner or coordinator (if you decided to opt for one): 10 to 15 per cent Everything else (favours, transport, gifts): five per cent Contingency fund: five to 10 per cent Panic-free unsplash.com@markuswinkler 36

WHERE DO I START? Once you’ve settled on a budget and a rough idea of the size of your guest list, discuss your dream date. Venues get booked up quickly, so you may be looking one to two years into the future (unless you opt for late availability). You’ll need to be flexible by choosing multiple preferred dates as you’ll likely be disappointed if you’re too fixed on the matter. What’s more important to you? The where or the when? Go into your venue appointments with your preferred dates, even if it’s just the month or season you’d prefer as well as any dates to avoid. This way, if it’s love at first sight, you’re prepared. Remember, your date isn’t secured until your venue confirms it, so don’t start supplier shopping until this is set in stone. You’ll find the first thing suppliers ask for is your date, so you won’t be able to book anything without it; what’s more, the venue bears such an influence on everything from style to logistics that discussing your dream day without it will be more than a tad tricky. So, what to look for during a venue tour? Capacity is paramount: make sure the venue can accommodate your numbers before booking a viewing so you don’t waste your time or fall in love with somewhere that simply won’t work. Also, look at the venue’s flow as you transition through the day and bear in mind any accessibility needs. Does it suit your vibe and vision? If you’re viewing a historical venue, be sure to check what’s allowed in terms of décor as there may be restrictions in place to protect the integrity of the space. Although, the more ornate the setting, the less styling you’ll need. Make sure you understand everything that’s included in the price you’re being quoted. It’s also worth investigating what extras the venue can offer allowing you to tailor your supplier shopping list. Check out our list of questions to arm yourself with. QUESTION EVERYTHING! 1. What do you provide on the day? Tables, chairs, linen, tableware, lighting, soud system, décor, cake stand and knife, bridal suite are all things venues often include (unless it’s dry hire). 2. Do you have an in-house caterer? If not, do you have a list of preferred suppliers? 3. Can we bring our own alcohol? Is there a corkage fee? 4. Is there a menu-tasting included? 5. What accommodation is available for guests? Are block bookings an option and is there a guest discount? 6. What restrictions are in place for suppliers? For example: noise restrictions, cutoff time, setup and break down times. 7. Are confetti, candles, fireworks or pets allowed? 8. Is there a backup option for wet weather? THERE’S A LOT OF MOVING PARTS! HOW TO I MANAGE IT ALL? Planning a wedding can involve around eight to 15 different suppliers, each with their own contracts, deadlines and needs, leaving much room for worry. We get it, this is the most important day of your life, it’s emotional... and expensive. So, you want people you can trust with such important moments. Look for consistency across reviews as well as how they communicate i.e. are they fast and professional? Ask for galleries of their work – do they wow you? Schedule a consultation ideally over the phone or in person as you’ll quickly get an idea of whether they’re a good fit. Where relevant, check they’re insured and produce, proper, clear contracts. Finally, trust your instincts – what is your gut telling you about their reliability? Choose legitimate businesses with a professional presence online. Find out about contingency plans if they’re unwell on the day or something goes wrong and familiarise yourself with the cancellation and rescheduling clauses in your contract. If you’re not happy with anything, seek clarification or don’t go ahead. We recommend shortlisting three to five suppliers from each category and comparing them across points such as price, communication, reviews, style, personality and what’s included. Be cautious about comparing price alone as value is far more important. Remember, cheaper isn’t always better and expensive isn’t always best. When your team is in place and plates are spinning, they’ll appreciate receiving the following information from you to ensure everyone is where they need to be at the right time, delivering just as you dreamed: timeline for the day, setup instructions, any relevant venue rules, on-the-day contact details, and arrival times. Add any notes they give to you on your all-important spreadsheet, along with their contact details. HOW DO WE MAKE SURE EVERYTHING RUNS SMOOTHLY ON THE DAY? There are a lot of moving parts during a wedding day, so the best way to tackle this is to create a detailed timeline well in advance and make sure all the key players have a copy. important for your suppliers to know what’s going on when. Be sure to include: • Hair, makeup and getting ready. • Photographer arrival and departure, along with essential shot list. Factor in time for getting ready and couple shots. • Travel time between venues if applicable. • Ceremony start and end times. • Cocktail hour or drinks reception timings, including any transition periods such as turnaround of the venue between ceremony and reception, or reception and evening party. • Reception elements such as speeches, first dance and cake-cutting. • Any end of night plans such as fireworks or sparkler send-off. WE’RE A BIT WORRIED ABOUT FAMILY DYNAMICS – THERE ARE GOING TO BE A LOT OF OPINIONS! Weddings can be emotionally charged for many stake holders but the key is communication and setting healthy boundaries. Clarify your priorities. It’s for the two of you to decide on your non-negotiables – be prepared not to compromise on these no matter what others think. Also have to a hand a further list of areas you’re flexible on, so that if anyone important to you feels they need to influence an area, you’re prepared to present them with something you’d welcome their opinion on. Set your boundaries early on. Decide who gets to have input on which areas. A guest list is a good one, as parents or guardians are likely to have family members in mind they’re keen for you to invite. So, make sure you allow space for this and set parameters on how many people you’re happy for them to suggest – you don’t want your budget running away from you. Consistency is crucial, so don’t waiver on the areas you’ve allowed or not allowed influence over or it can lead to unwanted interference. Keep communication clear and firm, addressing any conflicts calmly. Keep it polite, concise, then close the door (figuratively). For example: “We’ve decided to opt for xyz because it works for our budget, we hope you understand.” The end. Overall, keep the focus on joy and celebration. Remember, your wedding day is about the two of you, no one else. WE WANT TO PLAN THE DAY OF OUR DREAMS, BUT ALSO MAKE SURE OUR GUESTS HAVE THE BEST TIME. Your wedding, your way, is our mantra, but it is possible to go too far down that road. It’s your day, but happy guests make for a happy day. So, what can you do to achieve this without compromising your vision? Keep guests amused being sure to plan entertainment, comfortable spaces and adequate refreshment. Transitions between key parts of the day can easily become boring so these periods are important to remember.
