We finally made it people! Here, we are in the runup to Christmas. Didn’t that year go by in a flash? Before we turn the diary pages over into 2026, let’s take a moment to look back at what weddings in 2025 brought our way. This year, bold and vibrant colour palettes lead the way with jewel-toned hues and pops of hot pink or orange. Couples bonded with their florists to embrace lush, romantic florals filling their venues with life and a quiet luxury. Meanwhile, the serpentine reception table layout really took off, becoming one of the most frequently requested. All the while, personality shines through with couples continually finding new ways to tell their story and express themselves. We can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store! Hands up who can say they’re now mere months from W-day! As ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! ROMANCE A fairytale Carley and N’kose’s day was brimming with opulence, romance and colour Images courtesy of CG Media In 2011, destiny weaved its magic when Carley and N’kose crossed paths in an HMV store. She’d just bought her first 18-rated DVD, despite being only 16, when N’kose questioned her about her age. Thinking he was a sales assistant she lied and told him she was 18. Little did she know this was actually his attempt at a pickup line! Too embarrassed to ‘fess up, Carley continued the charade, to the point of faking a 19th birthday party! “After a year of anxiety, I came clean to N’kose and had a good laugh about it,” Carley remembers. “We still do 15 years later!” When the time came, N’kose proposed in Dubai on a boat they’d hired surrounded by friends and family. Since both share an interest in history and a love for visiting National Trust sites, the idea of hosting their big day at North Yorkshire’s Carlton Towers seemed meant to be. “It’s overflowing with history,” Carley says. “It’s everywhere, from the ornate ceilings symbolising the Wars of the Roses to the hidey hole of Thomas Thwing, a Catholic priest executed in 1680, which is found in one of the guest rooms.” With the venue ticked off the to-do list and the date set for 27th May 2025, next up was the colour palette. They opted for royal blue, pink and gold with hints of yellow, white, salmon and purple – “We love big explosions of colour,” Carley shares. Fitting with the opulent, fairytale mansion-vibe of the venue, their stylist created a draped silk arch to cover the doorway. Along with oodles of LED candles, candelabras and lanterns, this brought a beautifully whimsical and romantic air to the space. Flowers too were a big part of the day. Preeti Flowers brought the couple’s vision to life crafting colourful, wildflower-style bouquets, centrepieces and more. “We wanted a day that felt like we’d stepped straight into an historical romance novel,” Carley explains. The bride looked stunning in Santiago by Allure Bridals. “I originally went to try on a different dress, having seen it at a wedding fair. But during my appointment at Abbey Bridals, Jess pulled Santiago convinced it was the one for me, and she was absolutely correct,” Carley remembers. “I genuinely felt like royalty.” N’kose meanwhile wore a custommade three-piece suit, by Ted Williams Menswear. His jacket and trousers were royal blue, and he added some drama of his own with a Scabal waistcoat in the brand’s luxury festival fabric. “It made him stand out in all the best ways!” his bride adds. As guests arrived for the ceremony, they were serenaded by a harpist, who also played the bride’s aisle music Kissing You by Des’ree and continued throughout the drinks reception. Johnathon Breckin, a talented mentalist, magician and hypnotist was also on hand to simultaneously entertain and terrify guests! When the evening drew in a DJ from Spectra Entertainments took over, sharing the stage with the newlyweds’ cousin and groomsmen DJ Sparx who entertained loved ones well into the night with a set of pop, RnB, dancehall and soca music. For the bride, the highlight of the day was having her dad, David, in attendance. Having been diagnosed with terminal cancer around 18 months before the big day there was uncertainty around whether he’d be able to celebrate with them. “He was a fighter though, and managed to walk me down the aisle, be our ring bearer and give a speech,” Carley remembers. Very sadly, David passed away exactly two months later. “We’re so grateful to have so many incredible photos and videos of him to look back on from that day,” Carley continues. REAL WEDDINGS 21

OF HOME A little bit Bethany and Steve personalised their big day with styling inspired by their own home decor Images courtesy of Hamish Irvine Photography 26

REAL WEDDINGS 27

Bethany and Steve met at York St John University where they were flatmates and have been inseparable ever since. Their first days at uni were a blur of exploring their new home by day and spending fun filled evenings with friends. “I don’t think any of them were oblivious to the fact that we were falling quickly for each other,” Bethany shares. When Steve woke Bethany up one Saturday morning and surprised her with an overnight trip to York, she was immediately suspicious! Whilst there he proposed in the Museum gardens alongside the river. “He’d even booked an evening meal where we had our first date and a spa the next morning,” Bethany remembers. “He’d thought of everything.” Camblesforth Hall was the first venue they viewed just two weeks after becoming engaged. “We loved the decor and after meeting owners Naomi and Byron a couple of times and seeing how passionate they were about working with us to make the day uniquely ours, we knew nowhere else could compare,” Bethany explains. The couple were keen to lean into a summer vibe for the styling of their big day and included pops of bright pinks and oranges in their florals and stationery. Their photographer, Hamish, thrives in fun, colourful environments, so this was a match made in Heaven! Bethany and Steve were passionate about making sure their wedding was unquestionably theirs. Beloved cockapoo Winnie featured on their invitations and order of service illustrated by groomswoman Kate. The chic venue styling tied together beautifully in vibrant palette colours along with funky disco ball and bow motifs. “We created a wedding brand out of things that are us,” Bethany explains. “We have a green living room with pink and orange ornaments and a disco ball in the corner. So, this brought a little bit of home to our wedding.” 28

The bride wore Stella York style 7711. She’d taken a photo of the dress to her boutique appointment and squealed with joy when she discovered they stocked it. “After seeing the bow and buttons down the train, I knew I’d found the one,” Bethany remembers. “It felt like me: classic and timeless but with wow factor.” Steve’s two-piece suit was made for him in moss green to complement the summer vibe. “He was comfortable and looked stylish,” Bethany remembers. Not being afraid of something a little different, he opted for burgundy lining printed with cheetahs. Bethany arranged for cockapoo Winnie to act as ring bearer as a surprise for Steve. “He couldn’t believe his eyes when his best man walked down the aisle with her after convincingly pretending that he’d forgotten the rings!” Bethany says. The couple wanted their wedding food to be undeniably tasty and easy to enjoy. So, they kept it simple with pork pies from their local shop and served with packets of crisps. Then, Bastard’s Bistro in Leeds cooked pork belly, roast potatoes and seasonal greens followed by a choice of classic desserts. Although not a wedding caterer the team agreed to do the couple a favour. In the evening, guests were served a taco and nacho buffet to keep everyone fuelled for the party. Guests loved making the most of the huge selfie mirror decorated with signage while enjoying a drink in the courtyard. Later in the evening, the ice luge went down a treat with some hilarious moments. The speeches too provided their own entertainment as the bride’s sister performed a rap in the newlyweds’ honour roasting them both in the process! REAL WEDDINGS 29

Crimson and Captured at Holdworth House’s new wedding space, The Barn, this shoot gives us all the winter romance feels Images courtesy of Drawn By Light Photography GOLD DREAMS When a group of Yorkshire-based wedding afficionados got together to showcase their talents at Holdworth House the magic truly happened. The venue has recently opened The Barn, an open-sided rustic stone structure with exposed beams – a dream for weddings. So, armed with a palette of oranges and crimson, the team set to work to bring the space to life. From Above Bridal specialises in pre-loved designer gowns, putting them well within reach of any budget. As with every dress, the model bride’s ivory showstoppers went through the boutique’s pristine process to get it aisle ready. With a similar sustainable ethos, Antich Fine English Tailors make 100 per cent compostable suits, with buttons made of reconstituted nuts and cloth of natural fibres. Meanwhile, makeup artist Harriet Broughton applied her artistry to the bride and groom bringing them that wedding glow. Venue styling was in the hands of Earththings Florist and Attention to Detail. Running with the autumn/winter theme and palette the florist created a bouquet, centrepieces and pedestal arrangements to suit. Attention to Detail then stepped in to complement the beautiful blooms, while the candles and antique-look holders mirrored the historical setting. Finally, photographer Lisa from Drawn by Light was on hand to capture everything to perfection. 32

We share some of our top entertainment ideas for every stage of your big day Life and soul OF THE PARTY Sarah Noltner for Unsplash As you’re no doubt already discovering, planning a wedding involves maintaining a delicate balance between what the two of you really want and ensuring the day is fun and memorable for your guests. While we always recommend to plan your wedding, your way, it’s only natural and right that should you want your loved ones to be happy, having made the effort to celebrate such an important occasion with you. A key part of achieving this is the entertainment you provide during the day. So, we’ve put together a complete guide to wedding entertainment from ceremony to celebrations, ensuring there’s never a dull moment, and memories will be made to cherish for a lifetime. 36

Ceremony A romantic ambience Xingchen Yan for Unsplash HEART STRINGS For many, a string quartet calls to mind the Georgian and Regency eras. Think of the romance of a Jane Austen novel or, of course, everyone’s TV favourite Bridgerton. The sound immediately transports us back to assembly rooms with dapper gentlemen swirling elegant ladies in gorgeous gowns around the dancefloor, creating a dreamy atmosphere. If classical music isn’t your thing, most quartets will be more than happy to perform instrumental renditions of your favourite chart hits, regularly including them in their wedding repertoire as standard. If a string quartet is too much of a budget-buster, consider a solo musician who will create the same vibe equally well. Sticking to the strings we adore the mellow sound of a cellist, or the classic violin. Harpists too are an absolute wedding favourite and add an ethereal air to proceedings. KEY TO MY HEART Another versatile ceremony favourite is the piano. If you’re getting married in a stately home venue with a grand piano in situ, it would be a terrible waste not to use it! If there isn’t one handy, this instrument does require a little more logistical thought, so when making enquiries with a pianist find out what they’ll need. Worst case scenario, most will have an electric piano they can bring with them but do consider the possible difference in sound from a traditional instrument. We recommend listening to any videos they post on social media to get an idea and make sure you’re happy. Hrant Khachatryan for Unsplash RAISE YOUR VOICE Hands up if you remember Kingdom Choir’s incredible performance at Harry and Meghan’s wedding back in 2018? If you fancy a similar showstopping performance to grace your ceremony, we recommend looking into local chamber choirs. Typically consisting of around 12 to 30 members, they’re more space-friendly than a full 70-odd-strong choir and make as joyful or ethereal a sound as you wish thanks to their tight and intricate harmonies. Or, to really raise the roof, look into local gospel choirs who will make the most joyful noise possible. Turn your ceremony into a rip-roaring celebration, that’ll have guests on their feet! For something more low key, opt for an acoustic duo or soloist. Soloists will vary in style from beautiful sopranos for a sophisticated edge, to a musical theatre or folk feel. Whatever your musical taste, there’ll be someone out there for you so hit social media and Google to find the right fit for your preferred atmosphere. Bear in mind that vocalists can build up a huge following and reputation for themselves and can be much in demand. Especially since it’s possible to hire those who have featured on TV talent shows for example, so costs will vary greatly. Renee Van Den Kerkhof for Unsplash OUTSIDE THE BOX For something completely different, we recommend hiring a live painter to capture your ceremony. Not only does this leave you with a unique record of such an incredible moment in your lives, watching the artist work can provide guests with quite the entertaining spectacle during lulls such as when you’re signing the register. HAVE INSTRUMENT, WILL TRAVEL If you’ve found the perfect musician but they’re out of area, do make enquiries early on about travel costs. You will be expected to cover these expenses, so it’s important to know how this affects your quote early on. ENTERTAINMENT 37

Good afternoon Time to mingle, wine & dine Joseph Two for Unsplash MUSIC TO YOUR EARS Musical entertainment is a great option for your drinks reception. One idea here is to book your ceremony musicians to say on, switching up the vibe and repertoire to set the scene for the ensuing celebrations. If you opted to keep the tunes classical for the “I dos,” now’s the chance for them to let loose with versions of modern hits – Disney classics are always popular. Your guests will have fun naming that tune! Acoustic musicians work wonderfully well in this setting providing a laid-back air, the perfect background for chatting and sipping on Champagne. Singers too can create a lovely, mellow ambience, perfect for a sunny day. Nothing sets the celebratory tone like a roaming brass band. Have them meet you as you exit the ceremony and process you and your guests Madis Gras-style over to your ceremony space. This works best when your venue has gorgeous grounds to enjoy. THE CLASSICS Magicians are popular for this part of the day for a good reason. They provide a wonderful icebreaker as guests join in marvelling at the jaw-dropping tricks they’re witnessing. They’ll also make for a talking point long after the day has drawn to a close with folks still musing: “How on earth did they do that?” A caricaturist, illustrator or silhouette artist also offers a great way to keep loved ones occupied. Not only is this an entertaining experience for the subjects of the artwork, but other guests will also enjoy gathering around watching the artist at work. Plus, there’s the added benefit of a keepsake for loved ones to treasure. FUN AND GAMES Vintage lawn games provide ample fun for all ages. Think giant Connect4 and Jenga to name only two. Fairground style attractions, such as hook-a-duck and coconut shy will also have everyone queuing up for their turn. Have a look for local suppliers and see what ideas they have to offer for hire to save you a world of time and effort. Mini or crazy golf is a classic, and some suppliers even offer wedding-themed obstacles. You’ll be rushing back from your photo shoot to take your turn! For more wedding themed fun, shop around for a weddingwhite bouncy castle. Kids young and old will love it and don’t miss the opportunity for some hilarious shots as you and your new spouse or bridesmaids take a turn! If you love this idea, why not go all out with It’s a Knockout-style inflatables? Seeing our nearest and dearest get mega-competitive, while trying to maintain dignity in their wedding gear, will be a sight we guarantee you’ll never forget! Balint Mendlik for Unsplash AL FRESCO AIR If you’re hosting a drinks reception outside, check with your musicians what they’ll need on site. For example, if they need access to electricity, this will need to be worked out with the venue in terms of where they can set up. It may also be helpful to provide them with shade if the day is forecast to be a hot one. Andy Quezada for Unsplash wayfair.co.uk THE YOUNG ONES Don’t forget your mini guests. Boredom is the enemy of any wedding when it comes to the little ones, so be sure to keep them occupied! Enlist the help of a wedding creche service, allowing you peace of mind that the children are safe and sound and having the time of their lives with activities aplenty. If you prefer to go DIY, set up a chill out corner for them with a tipi den, colouring and crafts station, or hire a face painter to add to their fun. “Love a competitive element? We recommend an archery range, axe throwing or clay-pigeon shooting competition. These bring a brilliantly themed approach to a country estate wedding.” 38

Frederick Shaw for Unsplash ANIMAL ATTRACTION For all the animal lovers out there, why not invite some along to share your big day? Whether it be your own pet pooch who’s stayed on with their pet chaperone for a meet and greet with photos, or offering the opportunity to pet the venue’s farmyard residents, we’re all for the opportunity to make new furry friends! A falconry display is a great way to gather everyone together and interact as they marvel at these majestic birds. You can even incorporate an element of this into your ceremony by having an owl act as airborne ring-bearer. Further on the feathered friends front, a dove release is a poignant addition. You and your guests look on as they soar and circle in memory of loved ones who can’t be with you or as a simple symbol of peace, love and new beginnings. For a dose of cuteness overload, hire a party pony to carry your confetti. Later, they’ll mingle with guests and pose for photos. OUTSIDE THE BOX Opt for a sophisticated or quirky edge with some circus entertainers. From elegant aerial acrobats to jugglers and stilt walkers, they sure to bring a smile to the faces of all assembled. Misho Chachanidze for Pexels TURNING TABLES Sitting people together with others they don’t know is often inevitable. So, lay out some icebreaker table games out for guests to play while they wait to be served. A quiz about the two of you will have everyone swapping stories and answers, while Two Truths and a Lie will help the group get to know each other in no time. Advice cards are also fun for wise loved ones to fill out, and you never know, may prove useful. You could also make up some party survival kits instead of favours. Include items such as personalised temporary tattoos, glow sticks, drinks tokens, sweets and more. When you’ve finished your meal and the speeches have been made, transition into the evening with a game of Mr & Mrs, also known as the shoe game. It can offer some hilariously entertaining insights into your relationship! singing-waiters.co.uk | © robtarren.co.uk ARE YOU BEING SERVED? Surprise your guests with a performance from a troupe of singing waiters. This is even more fun if your new spouse is also blissfully unaware of what’s about to unfold! For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, your singing waiters will serve your wedding breakfast, sometimes even canapés too, all the while avoiding suspicion from guests. As far as they’re concerned, they’re being waited on by the caterer’s serving team. Things start to take a turn as some form of chaos usually unfolds, whether it be the clatter of a tray being dropped or a row breaking out. Watching your guests’ emotions move from awkward through to absolute glee as the waiters break out into song, will be a moment to remember for a lifetime – priceless.
