All the latest from the region NORTH YORKSHIRE IS IN UK’S TOP 10 ANTIQUE SHOPPING AREAS A new study reveals north Yorkshire as the sixth capital for five-star antique shopping experiences in the UK. The study, conducted by selling site www.for-sale.co.uk, analysed fivestar-rated antique shopping venues in the UK and calculated the number of shops in each area along with total TripAdvisor ratings to award each region a ‘Capital Score’. North Yorkshire is in sixth place, receiving a ‘Capital Score’ of 7.1. It boasts of nine five-star antique shops in the district, offering a shop every 962 square kilometres. Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for for-sale.co.uk said: “It’s pleasant to see the areas that offer fantastic shopping experiences for antique lovers in the UK and tourists who visit the country to explore its shopping avenues. Antiques are still an excellent option for gifts for special occasions and an ideal way to source unusual items that become a talking point when entertaining visitors.” Some shops to visit include: Cellar Antiques, Hawes; Ann Clarke Antiques & Collectables, Middleham; and Barn Antiques, Whitby. Staycations aplenty Make the most of what the UK has to offer, with Yorkshire offering beautiful landscapes and historical cities. Inspired by its northern surroundings, the HRH Group operates several boutique hotels, restaurants and traditional pubs within north Yorkshire. The portfolio includes, Clementine’s Town House Hotel, York; The Guy Fawkes Inn, York; The Fat Badger, York; The Fat Badger, Harrogate; The White Hart Hotel, Harrogate; The Yorkshire Hotel, Harrogate; The Pickled Sprout Restaurant and Bar, Harrogate; and The Black Horse Inn, Kirkby Fleetham. Clementine’s Hotel, is for guests looking for luxury, situated in the heart of York, it provides an indulgent experience in a place where Parisian chic meets Yorkshire heritage. A highlight of Clementine’s is the Ski Lodge Suite, a Nordic inspired ski lodge, complete with garden views and terrace. Inside sees a mock log fire, bedroom and bathroom with heated tiled spa seat and large dual shower. The Fat Badger York is the latest opening within the HRH portfolio, which opened officially in March 2022. The Fat Badger York occupies two grade II listed buildings, which have seen a £1 million renovation and partially built into the famous city walls. Those looking to explore Harrogate, can take in the sights with The Yorkshire Hotel and their in-house restaurant, The Pickled Sprout, located in the centre of Harrogate. For more information and to explore more pubs and accommodation within the group, visit the website: www.hrhgroupharrogate.com NEWS Nearlywed SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW Gail Bradley, wedding coordinator at five-star hotel The Grand, York, has seen a shift in wedding traditions among couples tying the knot at the hotel. From fatherdaughter dances not proving as popular anymore to seeing less brides throwing the bouquet, it seems couples are tearing up the rule book. Gail says, “Traditional cakes are still very popular for many couples, but naked cakes tend to be the cake of choice. Cupcakes too are a popular choice and quirky alternatives come along occasionally, for example we’ve seen cakes of cheese dressed with flowers and grapes, and pork pie cakes. “Here at The Grand, guestbooks are as popular as ever as a traditional keepsake. However, newer favourites we’re seeing emerge are jigsaws or pictures, which guests sign around.” And, when it comes to fashion and entertainment, Gail has certainly seen people sticking with tradition, “More often than not we’ll still see brides are sticking to the one dress, and bands seem to remain a very popular choice more so than discos, for after the ceremony. In all my years working as a coordinator I’ve probably only seen singing waiters twice!” While brides as still wearing the dress of their dreams and dancing to their favourite band, what changes have been noticed? Gail adds, “Favours are changing, miniatures are popular but I’m finding that seed bombs are becoming more of a popular choice, or personalised biscuits that double as a place card. There are lots of fun new options that couples are exploring. Of course, it’s down to each individual couple to how they want to spend their day, but knowing what trends are still current and what new avenues other couples are exploring may give some inspiration to other couples.” LOCAL NEWS 9

Asteria is a celebration of light and a symbol of new beginnings, and marks the debut of an alternative halo setting that is exclusive to the jeweller. Asteria has been designed to create complex plays of light that catch the eye from every angle. A highly polished sunburst surrounds the centre stone of the Asteria engagement ring to reflect light. Yet more brilliance is created by the innovative setting studded with micro-set gems within lozenge shapes that create a luminous alternative halo. The effect is an arresting brilliance that radiates all the way to the finger. The Asteria Solitaire is partnered by a wearable jacket-style wedding ring, which has a fan of highly polished sunrays radiating above the band. Special attention has been paid to the inner sweep of the ring, which has been perfectly angled to ensure full visibility of the solitaire’s micro-set gems. Andrew Geoghegan, who founded his award-winning namesake brand in 1998, said: “Asteria signifies an important evolution for the brand. Although it possesses the unmistakable AG spirit, it also shows a deeper love for and exploration of the play of light - on both metallic surfaces and gemstones. The various elements within the setting each have their own strong character but yet also work flawlessly together. With Asteria I also wanted to showcase the most skilled gem setting we have ever achieved, and I’m delighted to say the precision, and the beauty of the entire piece, is something to behold.” The Asteria collection officially launched in mid-March, and will roll out across a select number of Andrew Geoghegan partner boutiques as well as online on the brand’s website. The rings are available in 18ct rose, white and yellow gold or platinum, with various stone setting options including diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and tsavorites. Retail prices for the collection start from £2,695. Visit: www.andrewgeoghegan.com 10

A winter’s tale Phoebe and Joe tied the knot in a wintery celebration, fur shawls and all! Images courtesy of Peace Photography Make sure you marry that girl.” Those were the words Joe’s grandad said to him the last time he saw him, two weeks earlier before he passed away. Joe couldn’t be more sure and on 27th December 2019, on a dog walk on Ilkley Moor, one of his grandfather’s favourite walking spots, he popped the question. Of course, Phoebe said yes. On 22nd December, 2021, Phoebe and Joe tied the knot St Peter’s Church followed by a reception at The Gamekeeper’s Inn, Skipton with a party afterwards at the Ticket Office Bar, Ilkley. Here, Phoebe tells us more about their day... “ 23 REAL WEDDINGS

We love Yorkshire and wanted to make sure we us ed venues that were local to us. Joe’s dad is the tenant farmer of the land that the St Peter’s Church, Skipton is on. Our ceremony really stood out to us because we had music played by people really special to us. One of my oldest friends sung while I walked down the aisle accompanied by my brother and aunty. Then my other brother and two best friends sung with my brother accompanying again. It was really emotional.. We were both really calm and relaxed in the morning getting ready separately with our friends and family. During the day we were just really excited and happy. Joe wore a grey suit as did each of our two brothers and Joe’s best man. Joe wore the full suit and the others wore the jacket and black chinos. They all wore matching green spotty ties, all from House of Cavani. My dress was called The Honeybear from Rembo styling. I liked the fact that they make sure their production of the wedding dresses is ethical. I also had a vintage fur cape over my dress to wear in the morning. I accessorised with a glass bead multicolour tiara from Bunny and Evie and she even made me a gorgeous bracelet to match with the leftover materials. 24

The flowers were lilac memory roses with pinecones and white winter berries. We had a ginger, chocolate and fruit cake with a g ingerbread bride and groom on top, all made by our next-door neighbour. We picked The Ticket Office for a party in the eve ning because I love the cocktails there and we even designed a signatur e cocktail called The Althamill (a formation of our two surnames) for our wedding! Our favours were little carboard Christmas houses with ginger and dark chocolate biscuits inside and our centrepieces were mini silver sparkly Christmas trees. Joe used to work for Stuart who is the manager at The Gamekeeper’s Inn. They’re very close so we trusted Stuart to make our day really special! We had a live band in the evening who were amazing and played Motown, soul and more modern songs too. 25 REAL WEDDINGS

perfect PICTURE Amelia and Dominic Graham tied the knot at Wharfedale Grange in a day oozing with style and sophistication Images courtesy of Love Francesca Photography 28

Amelia and Dom met on a typical guys and gals holiday when they were young, free and single. And who says holiday romances don’t last? Some eight years later, Dom got down on one knee whilst on holiday in Portofino, the picturesque fishing village on the Italian Riviera coastline. The pair soon got stuck into organising their dream day and chose Wharfedale Grange as their venue of choice. On 16th April, 2022 they became husband and wife. SETTING THE SCENE Amelia admits she was blown away by the venue’s beauty especially the floor to ceiling fairylights which gave the pair goosebumps the first time they walked in. Unbelievably, ‘their song’ was playing when they took a welcome tour around the venue for the first time. It was certainly meant to be. Amelia and Dom opted for a romantic themed day with lots of white and natural colours. Amelia describes, “We decorated Wharfedale Grange’s iconic long tables with foliage runners, made up of eucalyptus and sprinkled with white roses and then had vases with floating candles finishing off the table decorations. Our favours were sage green biscuits, which doubled up as name places and were then wrapped in cellophane and tied with a white bow. The bouquets complemented the theme with lots of mixed green foliage as well as white hydrangeas and spray roses.” Food choices included canapés followed by a three-course meal, including everyone’s favourite trio of desserts! Their stunning semi-naked cake from Hannah’s Kitchen, was a beautiful focal point. To wash it all down, the couple sourced Manchester-based company, Come Wine With Me. “We had a gorgeous, converted horsebox as a mobile bar, which sat in the courtyard during our drinks reception, serving our guests prosecco and beers.” Amelia remembers, “The Come Wine With Me team were great and have created a stunning, classy bar that received so many compliments.” LOOKING THE PART Amelia tells us how she always imagined having a fitted dress with a long train and low back. “I wore a Madi Lane dress called Ivaine with the white underlay, styled with a floor length veil that was dotted with sparkles. When I tried on ‘the one’ at Dotty Bridal, I instantly fell in love. Dom wore a three-piece black dinner suit, with a bow tie and silver REAL WEDDINGS 29

chain. His groomsmen wore two-piece dinner suits, so whilst matching, Dom still stood out.” On theme, the bridesmaids looked beautiful in mix and match sage green dresses from David’s Bridal. TIME TO CELEBRATE Not wanting anything too cheesy on the dancefloor, Amelia and Dom chose the band ‘Something for the Weekend’ who specialised in ‘00s pop and R&B and the guests loved them! Amelia adds, “We wanted to add an extra sparkle to our night, so opted for Wharfedale’s confetti cannon. Gold confetti showered over us during our first dance and it was just magical.” MEMORABLE MOMENTS “On the day I felt strangely calm.” Amelia recalls. “Of course, I was a bit nervous but I felt so ready and excited to see Dom. It was the moment I’d dreamed of for such a long time so I couldn’t wait. Dom was excited but was very nervous while he waited for me to walk down the aisle. Dom was super-emotional on the day. I didn’t expect it at all, so seeing him cry when he saw me was a special moment. That ‒ and the party. Wow, our DJ knew what he was doing. Once the music started, we didn’t stop dancing all night long.” 30

happiness Amy and Ryan Boyd tied the knot at Bunny Hill Weddings with a day tastefully themed with sage green hues and Scottish traditions Images courtesy of Hayley Baxter Photography On a summer’s evening, Amy and Ryan shared their first date. It wasn’t long before Amy moved in, they made a home together and Ryan started thinking about popping that special question. Ryan got down on one knee on Amy’s birthday whilst on holiday in Kos. After plenty of celebrating on that beautiful Greek island, wedding planning commenced – as soon as the airplane wheels hit the runway. On 26th June, 2021, the happy pair said their vows at Bunny Hill Weddings on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Here, Amy tells us more about their day.. HERITAGE & 33 REAL WEDDINGS

We loved the detail of the venue and the modern fresh feel that had been created, whilst keeping some of the original features. We had large blossom trees at both ends of the top table and several tabletop blossom trees throughout the room. This provided some height, as the barn ceilings are extremely high. In keeping with Ryan’s Scottish heritage, all the flowers – bouquets and buttonholes included a thistle, which also matched Ryan, his best man and dad’s kilts. Bunny Hill is set within fields and woodland which created a gorgeous countryside wedding, perfect for photographs! My cousin Emily created the cake, using our favourite flavours lemon and raspberry and displayed a selection of flowers mirroring the flowers in my bouquet. The amazing caterers Hog and Apple created delicious dishes for our guests, of which people still talk about now! The starters were displayed on high sharing platters ‘Yorkshire Deli Boards’ and mains included a trio of pork with a selection of summery barbeque sides. 34

My dress was the Melinder by Enzoani, a fitted dress with exquisite, beaded detailing and a long train. Ryan wore a navy and grey kilt with a navy tweed waistcoat, jacket and matching tweed tie. He wore a white sporran whilst the groomsmen wore a black sporran. The main surprise of the day for Ryan was organised by his mum, Tracy, and myself. This was for a piper to play the bagpipes whilst guests arrived at the wedding. This was a lovely surprise for Ryan and was in keeping with the Scottish traditions. The bridesmaids wore floor length one shoulder sage dresses with beaded detail. Fresh Grooves performed in the evening and kept everyone on the dancefloor! This was must when we were deciding our evening entertainment! A simple cathedral length veil was worn along with my favourite pair of heels, gold glittered Jimmy Choos! 35 REAL WEDDINGS

Hayley, our photographer, was brilliant, from the moment she arrived, helping me into my shoes and capturing beautiful photos even if Ryan does hate having his photo taken. Having all our family and friends in one place to celebrate was the best part of the day, after the strains of the pandemic and the constant uncertainty, it was very special to finally be able to see everyone. AMY’S TOP TIP! Try and keep as calm and relaxed as possible, this will allow you to absorb everything that’s happening and you’ll enjoy every moment 36

light This shoot, bursting with spring colour, organised by My Pretties UK, is a breath of fresh air Images courtesy of DaisyBell Photography Stylist, Jen Sawdon-Mckay My Pretties UK organised a photographer’s workshop at Pepper Arden Hall in north Yorkshire. Jen admittedly fell in love with Pepper Arden Hall the first time she saw it. “It has beautiful and historic architecture and the way they’ve blended this with the modern décor and furnishings is so good. But mostly because of the owners, Rich and Emma who live here with their young family might just be the nicest people I’ve ever met. “I don’t know about you, but winter is always too long and by March I’m dying for some colour in my life! With this design that’s exactly what I wanted to create. A shoot full of colour, and English springtime vibes but done in the most elegant way. Flowers were such a huge focus and Emma from The Petal Studio did the most stunning job bringing spring inside. She created a focal staircase installation full of lilac, orange, apricot and pops of bright yellow. Floor displays to enhance the signage and statement vessels to enhance the tablescape.” The two dresses were from the Vera Wang Bride new collection, supplied by local vendor, Victoria Robson Bridal. Model Sam wore a classic black tux provided by Dandy threads and Nick and Chris, the most adorable couple, wore mix and match suits in the same colour palette, again from Dandy Thread Menswear. “The whole team were amazing, personally I think the results speak for themselves.” Jen adds.
