Your Yorkshire Wedding - March/April 2022 (Issue 53)

POP! Colour Tom and Dan Shrimpton tied the knot at Bowcliffe Hall in a celebration of love, inclusion and togetherness Images courtesy of Kirsty Mattsson Photography A modern-day romance, Tom and Dan met on Tinder in 2015. Tom proposed to Dan whilst on holiday in the Azores, Portugal. However, not without some obstacles along the way. Tom explains, “I Tried to set up a picnic but it was sold out at the hotel, so instead I had to buy a cheap bottle of fizz and some brie from the local corner shop. Then I’d picked a really romantic spot next to a small pond. However, at night it was pitch black and Dan refused to go down there as he thought it was like the start of a horror film! Anyhow, we ended up getting engaged next to the thermal spa on the steps with our bottle of unassigned fizz and lukewarm brie before having a swim.” Tom proposed with a Lego ring, as in the spirit of ‘inclusion’ he wanted to pick the rings together when they got back to Leeds. The theme of ‘inclusion’ was one very important to couple and was a prominent part of the wedding, making sure everyone felt equal and welcome. When newly engaged Tom and Dan arrived home, they visited a local jeweller in Leeds and had two engagement rings made together. Nuptial planning began and on 29th August 2021, at Bowcliffe Hall, they officially became Mr and Mr. Here, Tom and Dan tell us more about their special day... The Bowcliffe team were amazing from the day we met them. They were as excited for our wedding as we were, and that energ y and humanness was just what we were looking for. We were told the staff a sked to work the weekend of our wedding and they were all there watching at th e back as we got married! The venue was classic in lots of ways but also ha d a really contemporary feel. They were happy for us to use it as a base and bu ild upon it. 23 REAL WEDDINGS
