With one third of the rooms intact, the castle provides a romantic backdrop set amidst the stunning Yorkshire countryside. Built on five floors, the castle includes a portcullis, cobbled courtyard and a selection of rooms including the bedchamber where Mary Queen of Scots was supposedly held for six months. The cobbled courtyard, accessed via the castle’s portcullis, provides a perfect welcome area and drinks reception space, and a brilliant opportunity for photography of guests from above. The entrance can be lit by firepits in any season and candlelight is possible throughout the castle. The venue can cater for intimate nuptials or larger weddings with receptions welcoming up to 150 loved ones. WE LOVE! The gardens surrounding the castle are divided into ‘rooms’, including a maze, a small vineyard and historic herb garden, hedge arches and rosebeds lead to the steps to the south lawn. Launched this year, the lawns provide a stunning outdoor area for couples to take their vows with views of the Dales on one side, the imposing castle on the other. With the sisters of the Holy Paraclete being in residence for more than 100 years, the astounding castle, priory and chapel stands in one of the most iconic buildings in the area. One of the most spectacular features is the Norman-style chapel which is fully licensed for all ceremonies. LET’S CELEBRATE! Ceremonies take place in the beautiful on-site chapel which can welcome up to 180 guests.
