Your West Midlands Wedding - June/July (Issue 80)

DELECTABLE delights The latest cake trends Your cake is a great way of tying together your chosen theme or colour scheme and is your chance to showcase your creative side. To help give you heaps of inspiration, we’ve asked local suppliers for their 2022 trend predictions. “This year has seen weddings come back with a bang. With the backlog from 2020, couples have changed their minds on how they want to celebrate their day, and we see that in the cake sector as well. There are, of course, still the more traditional bakes being ordered, but many are also going for fun and creative designs.” – Samantha from Cake Fantastique. “Some adventurous couples are ditching white cakes and going for bright pinks, blues or oranges, and fun flavours to match like mango and passionfruit, pink lemonade, or maybe a boozy flavour like gin and tonic with a coloured sponge.” – Samantha Strecker from Cake Fantastique. www.cakefantastique.com and www.stuartjamesphoto.co.uk “This wedding season, I’ve already seen lots of naked and semi-naked designs. They look stunning with fresh or sugar flowers, fruit or even a chocolate drip.” – Claire Rowland from Claire’s Creative Bakes. www.clairescreativebakes.co.uk “Also very popular is the marbling effect that can be achieved with fondant icing. Any colour can be mixed into the icing and adding a little gold, silver or bronze leaf will make an amazing creation that no one will forget.” – Claire from Claire’s Creative Bakes. OUR TOP TIPS ❤ Chocolate can be used to decorate your bake. Whether you choose a modern drip effect or a quirky half-and-half creation, your guests are sure to be delighted. ❤ If cake isn’t your cup of tea, then there are some great alternatives available. We love the ohso-popular doughnut wall or tower. This can include a selection of your favourite flavours – plus there’s no need to worry about cutting the cake. Another option is a macaroon stack, this is ideal for those of you with a sweet tooth – yum! ❤ If you want to try something different on your big day, then why not look into purchasing some scones? These can be used as an alternative to your main bake or even as a delicious dessert. Make sure you do some research before purchasing, as some companies offer a variety of flavours, shapes, and gluten-free and dairy-free options. ❤ Cake toppers are a great opportunity for you and your hubby-to-be to show off your personalities – have some fun with it, and don’t be afraid to go against tradition!
