Your Surrey Wedding- August/September 2020 (Issue 84)

58 CHOOSING AN OUTFIT FOR THE MOTHER-OF-THE-BRIDE Your mum will want to look her best on your day, so it’s important she chooses a colour and style that flatters her. The largest collections arrive in stores from late November, and the next delivery won’t be in stock until May/June, so shop early to avoid disappointment! If your mum wants to wear a matching headpiece, buy both together as it may not be possible to purchase it later. Lastly, book alterations in advance in case your supplier isn’t available closer to the big day. Ask around for recommendations. At past weddings, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting bridesmaids and a year or two later they contact me for their own wedding, so word-of-mouth is a good way of finding suppliers. Look at artists’ websites and Instagram accounts to get a feel of their style and how versatile they are. Get in touch and make enquiries around nine to 12 months before the wedding. Trials usually take place around eight to 12 weeks before the big day. If your wedding has been affected by COVID-19, keep in contact with your artist and keep them up-to-date with new dates. I’m sure they will do their utmost to accommodate you. Try and book your desired car six to nine months before the wedding to avoid disappointment. When choosing a vehicle, it’s always advisable to physically view it as sometimes the images on the website aren’t a true reflection of its condition. Family-run businesses tend to provide a more personal and friendly service without the need for outside drivers. Before booking, ask your supplier what is provided, are the cars decorated as part of the package, how long is the hire period, are the drivers dressed in a uniform and are there any additional charges?
