It’s with a heavy heart that I announce Your Surrey Wedding’s amazing account manager Anita Bridge is retiring and this will be her last issue *sobs*. After 17 years, Anita is saying goodbye to the wonderful world of weddings and will be enjoying some well-deserved time off; dog walks with Buddy, casual lunches with friends, cheering on West Ham with husband Pete, and spending time with her family and grandchildren are all on the agenda! To say we’re going to miss her is an understatement, Anita is an integral cog in our Ellis Media & Events wheel; she brightens everyone’s day with her positivity and humour (she is always the first to laugh at herself!); her care and empathy knows no bounds, and it’s this joyful and infectious personality which is why we love her so, and, it’s also what’s won-over Your Surrey Wedding’s advertisers and supporters time and time again over 17 years – so join me in wishing her the best retirement as she truly deserves it! Wotton House perfectly blends history and harmony Wotton House is a countryside hotel in the heart of the Surrey Hills. Steeped in heritage and 13 acres of Grade II listed gardens and natural beauty, this 16th-century country hotel is laced with natural beauty, close to the Silent Pool gin distillery and Denbies vineyard. The historic town of Dorking is only moments away for those looking to explore, go antiquehunting or have a pint in a traditional countryside pub. Steeped in history, Wotton House was once home to John Evelyn, the 17th-century botanist who designed England’s first Italian gardens. Inspired by his travels, he created a landscape of temples, fountains and winding paths. Wotton House is a place where history, nature and romance come together, creating a setting that feels effortlessly special. A place where pillared halls, grand fireplaces and hidden gardens offer an unforgettable backdrop to celebrate the start of a new chapter. Whether exchanging vows beneath the vaulted ceilings of the Old Library or standing under one of the Italian garden temples, couples will find themselves surrounded by beauty, history and a touch of the unexpected – because here, every wedding is ‘wonderfully Wotton’. The Grade II listed Italian gardens are fully licensed for civil ceremonies, underneath one of two majestic temples, for celebrations for up to 140 guests. The 18th-century Walled Garden is the perfect, intimate backdrop; once upon a time it was used as a tortoise house, with the beautiful rectangular pool still a key feature of this space. Saying ‘I do’ between four historic walls will be an unforgettable memory. Grand vaulted ceilings, pillars and centuries-old original marble fireplaces set a romantic tone for an indoor ceremony in The Old Library. This is a truly wonderful, showstopping setting for your wedding breakfast, with natural daylight pouring in through the stone Gothic windows and Ancient Greek phrases written on the walls bringing history to life. Post-vows, wedding breakfasts and receptions also take place in the Evelyn Suite. The suite offers contemporary elegance with botanical artwork, wood panelling, and an abundance of natural light. The space has four double doors leading out onto the sweeping Italian Gardens, and the room’s artwork is inspired by the local area and John Evelyn’s botanical prints. The room’s neutral palette effortlessly aligns to your chosen colour scheme and décor. Whether you are imagining a room full of candlelight, an abundance of flowers or a unique and unusual twist, this space provides you with endless possibilities. Whether it’s a serene moment by the River Tillingbourne or a romantic kiss under the vaulted ceilings, Wotton House enhances your celebration and leaves a lasting impression on guests. These extraordinary features make every wedding as magical as the venue itself, and when tying the knot here, couples benefit from accommodation for the wedding couple and a free anniversary stay. REAL WEDDINGS 33
Kirsten and Josh met on an online dating app! “After Josh liked my picture, we soon arranged a first date. We hit it off right away and we couldn’t keep apart after this!” recalls Kirsten. Josh proposed during a trip to New York, “Josh suggested a visit to Brooklyn Bridge Park to have some pictures as the sun was setting. He’d planned everything, even coordinating our outfits,” shares Kirsten. “We all [Kirsten’s mum and dad who were also on the trip] got into a yellow taxi and made our way to the location where we set up a tripod for our pictures – little did I know this was actually to record the proposal! Josh said I should get some pictures by myself looking out at the Manhattan skyline and when I turned around, he was there, down on one knee! There were so many emotions running through me and after Josh’s lovely speech, I said yes! Some locals walking past were clapping as we celebrated and then we went onto a very nice steakhouse for a celebratory meal!” The big date was set, 18th September 2025, with The Barn at Bury Court setting the scene. “The second we walked into the barn it just felt right, people said that this would happen when we find ‘the one’. I almost cried at how beautiful the barn looked,” says Kirsten. “we walked around planning where we could put everything. The staff were so lovely and helpful, giving us a tour and answered all our questions. We came away wanting to get married there!” After looking at many colour palette variations, Kirsten and Josh chose a neutral look with a raspberry hue for a colour pop. “Our final decision was crushed-raspberry coloured bridesmaid 34
dresses, neutral-toned suits, colourful garden flowers, and gold accents throughout,” shares Kirsten. “My mum and I had a great time creating the centrepieces using gold hoops, wrapped in fairylights with faux flowers which matched those in my bouquet; and my dad created table numbers with acrylic octagon-shaped pieces. My florist was amazing for the bouquets and buttonholes; some small bunches of daisy tanacetum adorned the ceremony chairs, and an arrangement for the registrar table was reused on the top table at the reception too.” Kirsten wore a Miavalenca dress caked Erika, “I had an idea of what I wanted but many people told me to have an open mind. I tried on lots of different styles and I didn’t like any of them until this one came out; I remember thinking ‘this has to fit me’. Luckily it did, like a glove, with no alterations required. I spent a while walking around the shop in it, secretly I didn’t want to take it off, and the lady asked me if I would change anything about it to which I replied ‘No, it’s perfect!’. Josh wore a light-beige double-breasted suit from Moss Bros, while the groomsmen were in oatmeal-coloured textured suits from Skopes; the bridesmaids stood out in Club L Lifetime dresses in fuchsia-pink; they were long, satin, cowl-neck gowns with a small tie around the waist and a low cut back. “In the evening, we had a DJ – we’d picked songs we would/wouldn’t like – as well as a photo booth which was so much fun!” recalls Kirsten. “Our family and friends just love to dance so this was super important for us. We wanted everyone to fill the dancefloor and with the help of Farnham Sound and Light this is exactly what happened,” adds Kirsten. “The whole day was one big highlight; we didn’t stop smiling from start to finish! Everything was perfect and exactly how we’d imagined it. From spending the morning getting ready, to walking down the aisle and going on to party in the evening, the day just kept getting better. One very special moment was that I asked Josh’s sister, Kira-Jo Alleyne, to sing and record the song we walked down the aisle to which was a huge surprise for Josh and everyone else waiting for our entrance! “We also took little moments throughout the day together, just the two of us, which was so special to just soak everything in. Brandon, our photographer, really helped us with this, he took us out after the wedding breakfast for pictures at sunset just before the evening guests arrived.” “We loved partying the night away with all our friends and family and our DJ even let us jump on the decks at the end of the night which was such a perfect finish to the day.” REAL WEDDINGS 35

SWEETHEARTS Childhood Ellie and Ben’s wedding day was elegance encapsulated Images courtesy of Tom Halliday Ellie and Ben met on their first day of secondary school! Ellie shares, “We became inseparable friends for many years which turned into a relationship when we went to college. We were true childhood sweethearts and each other’s first (and last) loves – which was the common theme of our vows and speeches!” After romance blossomed, Ben proposed to Ellie in Champagne, France overlooking the vineyards. “We were all dressed up for a fancy meal towards the end of our holiday at a château,” recalls Ellie. “As we were leaving, we decided to take some photos together on our balcony. Ben told me to do some candid photos looking across the vineyards with my back to him (which I happily did, knowing the photos would be cute for Instagram) and, after a delayed moment, I turned to find him on one knee. After lots of tears and FaceTimes to loved ones at home, we celebrated with lots and lots of Champagne!” The date was set 10th August, 2025, and after viewing more than 10 venues the couple settled on Wotton House, Surrey. Ellie explains, “As we live in Essex, we viewed venues there first, but nothing quite felt special enough so expanded our search area further. When I found Wotton House online, I immediately got butterflies in my stomach – it looked magical with its many beautiful spaces inside and out, and it had that unique flare I’d been looking for.” The picture-perfect Italian Gardens blew the couple away and ticked every box for their dream outdoor ceremony. “The stunning Old Library interior equally had wow factor for our wedding breakfast,” adds Ellie. Ben knew he wanted to wear a black tuxedo, so Ellie themed the wedding around this classic and timeless aesthetic. “Our details were predominantly monochrome with hints of green to reflect the lush gardens,” shares Ellie. “As a graphic designer, I was in my element when it came to envisioning the look for the day. With the help of The Styled Chapter and Ether Events, we created a day which was timeless but a little different to match our personalities.” The florals were teamed with pampas grass and fans, which were present in the displays in all three areas of the wedding, “I wanted the indoor space to feel as lush and alive as the gardens outdoors, and we achieved this with moveable floral structures, which were also used as our centrepieces; and lots of vines and garlands which transformed the ceilings and pillars.” The theme continued in the styling with black cutlery and charger plates on the tables, and a bespoke acrylic seating plan and welcome sign – crystal candelabras also added to the luxe, traditional setting of the Old Library. When it came to the dress, Ellie knew she wanted something unique. “After looking in more than six stores I was worried I might not have the ‘wow’ moment other brides have. My luck changed when I went to Bride by Aster. After falling in love with a couture designer, Bride by Aster worked meticulously hard for me to track down my dream dress and have sent to the UK. “I was in tears just seeing it on the hanger! I’ve never seen such incredible intricate detail on a dress with so many embellished accents of sequins, pearls and feathers! It all came together with a cathedral-length cape which I opted for instead of a veil. I felt like a princess and will never wear anything as beautiful as that again in my life.” Ben and his groom’s party rented tuxedos from Dapper Chaps, finding the process smooth and the service brilliant. Each of them had matching suits, including shirts, trousers, waistcoats, braces, bowties, blazers and cufflinks all included in the package. Ellie adds,“I loved the dresses on Six Stories which offer a range of colours and styles all in the same fabrics, meaning my girls were all able to pick a dress which suited them and yet all still matched as bridesmaids – I opted for a mossgreen hue in keeping with the fauna in the gardens.” The couple had singer Hope Davies perform their favourite songs during the ceremony and drinks reception making it more magical and intimate. Ellie adds, “We also had a retro-styled photo booth complete with feather backdrop and fun props. For a personal touch I had my uncle play guitar with his band all evening which had guests on the dancefloor until the very end. “It’s impossible to pick a favourite part of the day as it was all so perfect,” shares Ellie, “however highlights include getting ready with my mum and bridesmaids in the morning singing to Beyoncé and drinking prosecco; we spied on the groom’s party out of the big bay windows while they were having their photos taken outside; my husband’s beautiful tear-jerking vows, and some hilarious heartfelt speeches! All beautifully captured by our incredibly talent photographer Tom and our content creator Charlie, who spent the entire day making us feel special and hyping us up in our very editorial-styled shoot – which I have spent every day staring at since we received the photos!” REAL WEDDINGS 41
