Win a luxury minibreak in Bath Writing this issue’s editor’s letter on one of the hottest days of the year, means all I can think about is the heat! Although, I’m not moaning like a typical Brit saying it’s too hot, I was cold in Australia so for me, heat-Goldilocks, it’s just right! For summer nuptials, yes you may want the sunshine, but you don’t want the heat as it leads to all sorts of scenarios you may not have thought about: melting cakes, make-up and guests for a start! So, it’s not just wet-weather contingency plans you need to invest time in, but also humid heatwaves need a Plan A, B and C. Does the venue have shade outside? Can you create any if not? Should you provide folding fans? Are there enough refreshments to keep guests hydrated? When it comes to your outfit, can you remove a layer of the underskirt to keep cool, or change your footwear for a heeled sandal instead? Some top tips for your bridal look, carry blotting paper with you for sweaty faces, make sure you secure make-up in place with a setting spray and a handheld fan in your clutch bag could work wonders when you need a minute to cool down! Finally, if you were planning on involving your pet in your wedding day, then chat to your chaperone service about the best ways to keep them comfortable whatever the weather. Ooh is that the time, Pimms o’clock! Until next time... You’re my sunshine ISSN 1751-7095 Your Surrey Wedding is solely owned, published and designed by Ellis Media and Events Ltd. The Surrey-based family-run company is committed to creating understated luxuries; Celebration is inspired by effervescent champagne, delicate rose petals and warm vanilla sponge – a joyful, fizzy fragrance that genuinely lives up to its name. The four-wick version is a table-top statement (think centrepieces for marquee weddings or golden-hour garden receptions), while the smaller tin candle brings budget-friendly charm to guest tables, bathroom shelves or post-dinner goodie bags. For minimalists, the matching reed diffuser adds low-maintenance scent to getting-ready rooms or honeymoon hideaways. What’s more, the one-wick Celebration candle comes boxed, gold-lidded and ready to gift – ideal for bridesmaids, friends tying the knot, or even your own wedding registry (you can put candles on there, we checked)! There’s even a diffuser and candle duo set that feels way more luxe than its price tag. Every candle is hand-poured in the UK using traditional methods, small-batch and heartfelt. So, whether you’re planning your big day or just love a little fizz in your fragrance, Celebration by Lower Lodge Candles is a go-to for scenting life’s most meaningful moments. This family-run 25-acre haven is located in Banstead within the picturesque North Surrey Downs. It transforms into a vibrant sea of purple each summer season between June and August (exact dates vary year to year according to the weather). The farm offers plenty of photo opportunities and moments to take in deep breaths of fresh lavendar. Visit the iconic red telephone box and tractor and take a seat on the heart-shaped bench. Why not hitch a ride on the Looby Loo tractor between your engagement shoot photos? As well as appreciating the natural beauty, visitors can sample a range of cakes, light bites, beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and lavender treats, including its signature lavender cream tea at its café. You can also purchase a host of lavender-scented and infused gifts at the on-site shop from hand cream, bath essence and candles to liqueurs, tea and honey. Guests can also discover more about the area’s historical lavendergrowing industry and Mayfield Lavender Farm’s revival of this tradition in the outdoor museum, which is new for 2025. NEED TO KNOW Q We’re having a festival style summer wedding, but still want to arrive and leave in a showstopping car! What do you suggest for the time of year and theme of wedding? Dany from Classic Car Hire, Surrey, (ucchire.com) says: I’d probably go for an open-top car in a striking colourway and our Buick special convertible would fit the bill perfectly! TWO TO TANGO In recent months, Surrey’s First Dance Ltd (firstdancestudios.co.uk) has expanded beyond Woking and Farnham to offer first dance lessons across a wider area. No matter where you’re based, the team can help you prepare for your special moment on the dancefloor. If you can make it to a studio setting, the company offers a tailored 90-minute session. In just one lesson, you’ll learn how to move confidently around the floor together and be ready to kick off your celebration in style! Prices start from £135, with a bespoke quote based on your location. Owner and instructor Emma says, “We’ve recently held lessons at The Place in London and The Broadway Hotel in Letchworth. We’re constantly adding new studio spaces and will soon be expanding into the South Coast and Oxfordshire. So, wherever you are, book your session and enjoy a fun, memorable dance lesson near you. We promise it will be a fantastic experience!” NEW AT PENNYHILL PARK Pennyhill Park’s new afternoon tea collaboration, with fellow British brand Molton Brown, gives guests a very special sensory experience. Taking inspiration from a range of Molton Brown’s signature scents, there are five different seasonal menus across the year to experience – this season brings you Molton Brown’s delicious Rhubarb and Rose. Firstly, guests will enjoy the subtle flourish of their napkin gently imbued with the season’s eau de parfum and will receive a welcome tea on a ‘smoking’ box of dry ice, which is an iced tea blend. There is a vast range of delicious teas to explore, including its Signature Savoury Blend, created exclusively by the Tea Masters at Camellia’s Tea House. It is the perfect brew to accompany The Savoury Platter before moving on to the Parfait and Grand Tea Stand with its warm home-baked scones and ravishing seasonal collection of pastries. The bright and bold bespoke crockery has been designed exclusively for Pennyhill Park’s Afternoon Tea service by William Edwards. The design inspiration has been taken from the amber accent colour of Hillfield’s interior, together with English country garden flowers and the honeybees of the Pennyhill Park estate. Head pastry chef, Sarah Frankland, is a master at whipping up the delicious treats, having been awarded 2019 Pastry Chef of the Year at the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards, and was a finalist on 2019 Bake Off: The Professionals. This is more than simply an afternoon tea – you are served up three courses one by one (so no scones getting cold) and there are special treats and touches between each, like bespoke flavoured teas, dry ice and bespoke crockery designed specifically for Pennyhill Park. Love at first swipe Holly and Dieter’s big day was a floral haven Images courtesy of Pretty Wedding Studios REAL WEDDINGS 19
Holly and Dieter, met in modern fashion on Tinder! “I was the first to message Dieter, and before I knew it we were chatting away until the early hours of the morning most days. We went for our first date a couple of weeks after talking and we hit it off straight away! It didn’t take long for me to realise he was the one – I guess love at first sight really does exist,” share Holly. Dieter proposed in the pub where the couple had their first date (The George, Hersham) on the exact table they were sat at in April ’24. “We had a short engagement and in August that year we booked the date and venue! It wasn’t a big grand proposal, but it was perfect for us, and we sat there and laughed about our first date and how nervous we were!” adds Holly. LOCATION It was love at first sight again, when the couple viewed Farnham House Hotel, “We were immediately attracted to the cosy, warm vibe inside,” shares Holly. From the beautiful fireplaces to the bright and airy reception room, it was an immediate yes for the pair. “It was the first venue we viewed and, after viewing a few more, we just knew we had to go back and set the date. We fell in love with all of the staff too; Mel and Hannah especially, but everyone was so friendly and welcoming, we knew we were in safe hands and that our wedding day would be organised by some truly amazing people.” The venue offered an al fresco option for the wedding, which the couple chose, getting married outside in the beautiful gardens under the gazebo, “it was the most magical ceremony. Every single corner of this hotel has character, it’s absolutely stunning!” adds Holly. SETTING THE SCENE Having a May wedding, Holly and Dieter decided to go for a spring theme, and a colour palette of pastel blues and peaches with splashes of white and ivory. “The colour theme was stunning and really complemented the beautiful gardens at the venue!” shares Holly. “The décor was simple and minimal, as the venue was so beautiful it really didn’t need much adding to it!” Taking herself as a bit of a craft-queen, Holly created much of the finer details herself which she thoroughly enjoyed. “It felt personal having so much input, and I was so happy to see it all come together. I kept the décor simple and clean, with pops of colour from the florals and adding lights around the venue. “The biggest bonus was using my mum and stepdad’s campervan, which looked stunning in the photos!” The nearlyweds enjoyed a menu tasting a few weeks 20
before the wedding, which they found so much fun. “We were looked after by the lovely staff at Lemonstone, especially John, and in the end we chose to have: salmon with caviar and mini vegetable samosas with a mango dip for our canapés, a homemade country-style pate for starter, and a beef roast with the biggest Yorkshire puddings we’ve ever seen! For dessert, we offered cupcakes from our cupcake tower. We drunk our way through prosecco, white and red wine and orange juice for the non-drinkers and children. “We had so many compliments on the food, and I’m not surprised as the level of quality with Lemonstone is 10/10!” LOOKING THE PART Molly’s wedding dress was called Tarnie by Heidi Husdon, and was in a gorgeous blush hue. “I wanted something lightweight with detail, and although this wasn’t my original style of choice, when I tried it on, I cried, so I knew it was the one! I’ll never forget my sister’s face when I walked out of the changing room. It was the last dress I tried on, and she started crying and said I looked like a princess!” shares Holly, “but having that clarification from my sister was the most beautiful moment I’ll cherish forever. “You must go in with an open mind when dress shopping, as I ended up with a style I never thought I’d go for! I felt so beautiful, but also comfortable, which was a must for me.” Dieter looked dapper in a navy three-piece suit, with a blush tie and buttonhole. “He wanted to stand out from the groomsmen, and he looked so smart!” recalls Holly. “When I saw him standing at the end of the aisle waiting for me, I fell in love with him all over again. I know the attention is usually on the bride, but he looked so handsome and had so many compliments on the day.” The groomsmen all wore matching blue suits with a blush tie and handmade buttonholes. “They all looked absolutely incredible! My son, the pageboy, wore a matching suit and together it looked better than I could have ever imagined!” Holly’s bridesmaids all wore a beautiful one-shouldered baby blue dress, with sparkly, short-heeled sandals and matching sparkly clips in their hair. “They looked stunning and got so many compliments on the day.” TIME TO CELEBRATE Holly found a unique idea on Pinterest called ‘sip and solve’, “I used a free crossword generator for guests to fill out answers about me and Dieter and it was such a good talking point! We also bought a cheap dartboard to use in the gardens, and this was a huge hit too!” recalls Holly. The couple also provided little bits for the children such as bubbles and goodie bags on the tables including a little activity book, pens and pencils, along with other little bits to keep them occupied during speeches! “Our DJ in the evening was so on-point with the music,” recalls Holly. “We told him what kind of music we were into, certain songs we wanted played and he went above and beyond. He was so funny, making jokes on the mic which kept our guests entertained further! In the evening, we also used foam glow sticks, they were such a hit and really encouraged everyone to get on the dancefloor!” REAL WEDDINGS 21

I was literally holding back tears as his little hand held mine and he said to me, ‘It’s okay mummy I’m nervous too, we can both be nervous together!’. He was such a little gentleman all morning and I was absolutely privileged to have him by my side on the most memorable walk we’ll ever take together. The bond we have is totally unbreakable, so it was a no-brainer that he would be the one to give me away to his stepdad.” WORDS OF WISDOM “Lists, lists, and more lists! Get a good wedding planner, not an app – an actual book – I literally had every single job in that I needed to do, spread out month by month so that I didn’t get overwhelmed by the hundreds of things needing to be done! I made sure to divide jobs equally and try to get them done as soon as possible that month so that it didn’t build up. “Also, get your hubby-to-be involved! It definitely helps sharing the load tag-teaming everything. He took care of all the admin bits (emails, phone calls etc) whilst I got hands on with the décor, flowers and invitations. It’s much more fun when you’re doing it together, and it’s memories made in the run up to your big day! “One other piece of advice I’d give with planning is stick to your budget. It’s so easy to get carried away with adding extra bits here and there! Nick and Pam had a day to remember Images courtesy of Luke Warner Photography I do, I do, I do 24
Nick and Pam met when they were both in their early twenties at Surrey Police headquarters, where they were training for different roles. “While there was the start of something, I moved away to Southend to become a local church minister while Nick’s life remained in Guildford,” recalls Pam. “Aside from the occasional message, we mostly lost contact until Nick reached out at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. We started to date (socially distanced!) and re-kindled what was there before. We often joke that it took us 10 years – but we got there!” After romance blossomed, Nick proposed on 22nd January 2024 at Newlands Corner, Guildford, “This was somewhere we’d been for dog walks together or breakfasts over at the Plucky Pheasant across the road,” adds Pam. “Nick had been to Marlows Diamonds in London where Jo works (she would go on to become my maidof-honour along with her wife Sarah). Nick had taken Carina, his best woman, with him while I was on an away day at work. He had planned for a New Year’s proposal, but illness meant he had to keep his secret for a few more weeks. The proposal was a total surprise to me, although Nick had been to see my family to speak to them about it in that time, and most of our friendship group had been in on the secret!” The big date was set, 12th April 2025 with St Mary’s Church Caterham, Surrey and Surrey National Golf Club providing the big-day backdrop. SETTING THE SCENE The couple knew they wanted a church ceremony but picking a location was difficult! “We settled on Caterham because it’s where I grew up and was somewhere accessible for our friends and family who were travelling,” shares Pam. “We picked St Mary’s especially because we loved their inclusive approach to ministry and once met Rev Trevor, who made the whole planning process enjoyable, we knew we’d made the right decision.” One of the groomsmen, Jim, suggested Surrey National Golf Club after some online searching, “It seemed like a great fit and once we visited we knew it was exactly what we wanted,” shares Pam. “They had fairlylights and drapes up which were absolutely stunning, and the different rooms available meant we had loads of flexibility in how we could set up the space – as a family with lots of children, having a suite for softplay meant the youngest guests were entertained!” For the finer details of the day the couple booked Jen Live Illustrator for wedding favours which doubled up as entertainment, “our guests loved having their portraits taken and Jen’s combination of painting live or from a photograph meant people could find different ways to be involved,” explains Pam. The table plan was a Monopoly board with locations special to the couple, “For example, it included Newlands Corner as the place we got engaged and our local rugby club – and we switched ‘chance’ and ‘chests’ for prayers and blessings to tie in the church element too,” adds Pam. The centrepieces included spray painted Monopoly pieces to match the seating plan, “and again were personal to us, they included handcuffs, a dog, a motorbike (since we both ride), and others. They were displayed on wooden log slices alongside a police lamp and a gold cross to reflect both our roles,” says Pam. The bouquets were designed especially by Special Day Bouquets, “the company has since named my bouquet design ‘the Pamela’ on its website. It’s a stunning arrangement of white and navy roses with eucalyptus.” For the big-day cake, the couple opted for a four-tier design which they personalised with a cake topper and navy ribbon to tie it in with the colour scheme; as were the gold and navy place names on-theme. Surrey National Golf Club is beautifully decorated as standard, however, By Emerald Events provided a number of other items including a mailbox, chair covers and A-frames for the couple’s signage. A highlight of the day for the pair was the transport! “We wanted to make it really easy for guests to get between venues, so we hired a London bus to take everybody to and from the church/reception. I travelled separately with my dad (Chris) in a white wedding taxi. After the service, Nick and I took the wedding taxi for a drive to process that we had just gotten married! We celebrated with champagne before getting the bus back to Surrey National Golf Club with all our guests.” 25 REAL WEDDINGS

LOOKING THE PART Pam’s wedding dress was from a Lady McAdden pop-up store in Southend. “Lady McAdden is a charity supporting people with breast cancer,” shares Pam. “The store was in Southend for a few months in 2024 and my friend Lauren worked there. I popped in to visit her after work one day and she showed me the wedding dresses. Lauren advised me to pick some I liked the look of, but also to pick something that I wouldn’t usually go for so that I had an idea of what did and didn’t work so she could filter options. The first dress I tried on was a huge ballgown that was not my usual style and I fell in love with it – but I hadn’t gone in with plans to buy a dress and I didn’t have anyone from my bridal party with me! Unfortunately, the store closed shortly after, and I sent Lady McAdden a Facebook message asking if they had the dress in storage. It was one of around half a dozen they had left, so I picked it up with my two nieces shortly afterwards. It wasn’t the traditional bridal party approach to picking a dress, but it was absolutely perfect and Sew Elegant in Caterham made some stunning alterations that ensured it was the perfect fit on the day. My dress was a Christina Rossi design, accessorised with shoes and veil from Lace & Favour and hair pins from Victoria Harper.” The groom looked dapper in a navy suit from Black Tie; he teamed it with a white patterned waistcoat. “We hadn’t planned it, but it was an incredible match with the bodice on my dress (which he hadn’t seen),” adds Pam. The groomsmen were matching in the same suit but had different waistcoats and buttonholes. The bridesmaids chose their own navy dresses and chose their own shoes and clutches in gold according to their own style. MEMORABLE MOMENTS Pam felt surprisingly calm on the day, “All the planning paid off and the expected nerves never really materialised,” she shares. “A lot of what I was told I might feel or expected to feel didn’t really happen – which I was thankful for! Even as we ran a little late for the service (around 20 mins) everyone was very flexible and we moved things around to accommodate the new time. Once we got into the church that was it for me and I forgot about all the logistics and was just excited to marry Nick! Our service was deeply profound, but Rev Trevor also included light-hearted parts of the address which is very us, so it didn’t feel too staged. The balance of serious and fun was exactly right and meant it was a really enjoyable day.” Nick felt like a swan, cool, collected and outwardly calm on the surface, but paddling like anything under the water! He says, “I was glad and thankful we had gotten to our wedding day but was tense, worried that everything would be as we wanted, worried vendors wouldn’t turn up and deliver what they had promised and that no guests misbehaved. As the day went on and as each part of our itinerary was completed, I relaxed a little more each time.” To entertain friends and family, the couple hired a DJ from Expert Entertainment who played a real range of music which got everyone on the dancefloor, “We also booked fireworks from Frontier Fireworks to kick off the reception after dinner, and had softplay to entertain the children and a live illustrator for entertainment and favours!” says Pam. It’s hard to pick one standout moment from the whole day, but Pam shares, “It’s difficult to choose! I’m really thankful that we took the time to have a glass of champage in the taxi after the ceremony because we had been advised by others that the day goes so fast and you don’t get much time to be together just the two of you. For me, this was the moment where we got to celebrate that ‘we’ve done it!’ “Too much to choose from,” adds Nick, “but certainly the speeches delivered by Sarah and Carina who were Pam’s co-maid-of-honours and my best woman respectively. Above all else though, was seeing Pam walk into the church in her dress, it bought a tear to my eye and was an absolutely standout moment from a perfect day for me.” There were plenty of funny stories from the day, “The couple Luke photographed for his first wedding were present as guests, and he informed us that we’re now wedding number 51, which was a full circle moment!” recalls Pam. “We deliberately organised our procession so that my sister (who was also our shortest bridesmaid at five-foot) walked into the church with our tallest groomsman Jim (6’7) so that we could enjoy a light-hearted moment in the midst of a very serious REAL WEDDINGS 27

There was also the moment the children got caught trying to squash the soft play bouncy castle out of the suite double doors just to ‘see if we could’ was definitely unusual! “Last but not least, one of the groomsmen is now in a relationship with our maidsof-honour’s daughter and they met at our reception – which is something we’re excited to claim some responsibility for!” Although everyone is a great help on a wedding day, the couple adored their photographer, “Luke was outstanding. How he managed to capture both parties getting ready by somehow being in two places at once is still a mystery to us both! He couldn’t be more helpful, and the photos we received (within a month of the wedding – much sooner than we expected) are absolutely stunning. One of my favourite parts of the day was watching my nieces treat having a photographer as an opportunity for their own personal photo shoots, telling Luke ‘you can take a picture of me if you want’ which he did! The way he was able to balance professionalism, with a light-hearted approach and going over and above to involve the girls was something we hugely appreciated.” 28

Carrie of CK Wedding Flowers says, “I’ve always loved the elegance of English country garden vibes, especially with that Bridgerton touch. When we chose Botleys Mansion as the venue, it just felt right. The mansion’s grand beauty was the perfect backdrop for a style that blends the charm of an English garden with a hint of Regency romance. Soft pastel blooms, lush greenery, and pops of vibrant colour created that timeless, romantic feel – classic yet fresh, with a playful twist. It’s all about blending tradition with modern elegance, giving the shoot an air of sophistication, but with just enough whimsy to make it exciting.” – enjoy! 31 LOCAL INSPIRATION
