Q&A Fashion and Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals LIP SERVICE I never wear lipstick, but I’m worried my look might appear unfinished without it on my wedding day... What advice can you offer me for feeling comfortable while wearing lippy? Charlotte Olivia (www.charlotte-olivia.com) says: I have this conversation with a lot of my brides, many people don’t feel confident or comfortable when choosing a lipstick colour for their wedding day. I always encourage brides to wear something on their lips, as without it, your make-up can seem unfinished – but don’t panic! This doesn’t mean you have to wear bold colours. To brides who don’t feel like themselves with a lip colour on, I recommend trying a natural tinted lip balm or light hyaluronic lipstick combined with a natural nude lip liner; a natural coloured gloss can also work. Balms can be a little sticky and so if you do want to try some lipstick colours for your special day, it’s better to try nudes and pinks that are similar to your own lip colour. This way it won’t feel like such a big change to see yourself with a lip colour on, but do avoid nudes that are too dark or light. I’d also suggest wearing a colour for a full day to see if it’s a case of you getting used to yourself in lipstick rather than not feeling confident. Also, speak with your make-up artist for guidance and shop around for a colour that you like, it’ll elevate the overall look as your lip colour really does bring the overall look together. Julie Aitken from Wedding Frox (www.weddingfrox.co.uk) says: One of the 2024 trends we’re seeing come through from the hottest bridal designer collections is the addition of subtle print fabrics in soft tones, alongside the classic Hollywood glamour of rich ivory jacquard prints. These allow the cool, freespirited bride to shine a spotlight on her individuality and playfully create a palette and wedding styling that’s uniquely her own. Classic styling with a subtle twist of texture or shading can add swoon-worthy detailing on a contemporary timeless gown, especially when worn with the added twist of a detachable skirt or striking sleeves that can be removed to transition from day to fun night time party. Remember: it’s your day your way! 84
